I can't shake the feeling this is gonna be a JURRASIC WORLD size hit despite having no interest n seeing it.

That would be great.

I loved the original. To this day it's still the best alien invasion film. It had a great cast overall who had excellent chemistry. The UFO and alien design was and still is very memorable. All of the destruction was ace, the shot of the white house becoming an iconic pop culture image of the 90s. Ontop of all of that it had great character moments that made a lot of people care about what happened to them. And who can forget that speech? Still recited to this day. Just hoping this one is remotely close. Know it won't top it, but a 2012 level I could live with since I enjoyed that film. As a 90s X-Files kid the original was and still is iconic to me, plus to at least the US as well - if it wasn't it wouldn't have become the pop culture landmark that it was (referenced and called back to by other media content, the most memorable call back being in Austin Powers (another film that took off big time)) and became the top grossing film of 1996.

I'm not seeing the buzz and why haven't any of the trades talked about it's tracking? Usually when a film is tracking to do over 100 million opening weekend we hear about it a few weeks before a film opens.

It was a few months ago but I think it was tracking something like 68.5 million
But, I think that it will do better than that, because of the double features.
The grosses for the rerelease of the original will be added to midnight screenings for Resurgence and Resurgence will look bigger than it actually is.

Oh man I was massively hyped for the movie ever since it was first announced. The story isn't exactly good but when it comes to disaster scenes, you gotta admit, they were a blast.

i am going to rewatch the first movie before watching this new one next week. did they have jokes during scenes when millions of people died? in this one it looks like they just copy/pasted Marvel humor to the mass destruction.

Wish this was released on 4th of July so I can properly do a double feature.

I dont expect this to be good, but I'm seeing it in theaters.

I would be surprised if ID4R was a big hit in the states because I'm just not feeling the buzz. I think it could do like 190mil in North America but like hitting over 250mil? I just can't see that right now. That doesn't mean that it won't happen, it means that's not my prediction and if I'm wrong I'm wrong.

This is a character from the original toy line that never made it into the final film really. Face up, it looks like it. Plus the tendrils for that toy were huge. It just looks like it a lot. The key that set this figure apart was while it looked like the other aliens - it was huge and it's tendrils were very, very long.

If it delivers on spectacle then I'm good. Jessie T Usher is a weak point to me. I like his show Survivor's Remorse but I doubt him and Hemsworth can deliver on filling that Will Smith void

I noticed that some too. Fact is the original is popular with lot of people who lived during the 90s and people that were born after. And the average joe doesnt know or care about a director's history or track record. They dont care that Roland has a sketchy resume. Hell, most people dont know one director from another one or care who directed what. They just like movies they enjoy and they enjoy ID4. A sequel is going to draw interest.

Exactly I'm not expecting much from them honestly. I'm with you. Give me the spectacle and seeing some of the old characters again like Goldblum and Pullman and I'm a happy camper

I don't care if this movie get a negative RT %. The first ID4 got me into movies as a kid and I'll be there opening Friday in IMAX.

I may even avoid the net completely because I really don't wanna read all the crap this movie is bound to get.

I get the sense that this movie knows exactly what it is too. A lot of the viral marketing material I've seen has a bit of a tongue in cheek feel to it.

But yeah, I'm with all of you that are open to some good old fashioned dumb fun with this one.
