It doesn't drag at all. It's about the build up of it all. You need to pay attention to what they are saying. If you are into it, you are waiting for something to happen, hence the tension. The opening scene and the bar scenes are the best scenes because of the use of trension.

Only in chapter 4 does it drag for me. Chapters 1 and 3 are perfect dialogue sequences. But after how intense chapter 3 was, the momentum needed forwarding, I wanted to see where the story was going to go.

It is the finest script I've read since NCFOM.

That's a fair call, the script is great.

Oh don't get me wrong. That's basically my only complaint. I want this movie to win Best Picture. It's a love letter to cinema and should be rewarded for it's respect and even if Chapter 4 was a little off for me, it still features Michael Fassbender's greatness as Lt. Archie Hicox.

Yeah, I hope Tarantino wins for his three categories. He deserves it. He's deserved it since Pulp Fiction.

Hicox was probably my favorite character. I mean him just sitting and speaking he just oozed badassery in a classy way.

I'm curious what you found off about chapter 4. I thought the rhythms of it was perfect. The brits talking was a foreshadowing of how fassbender would *temporarily* get out of his future bar dilemna using his movie skills & the bar scene had me emotionally up and down. Are they safe, yes, no, yes, etc...

I also liked how chapter 3 began with shosanna taking down the movie letters... the same movie fassenbender uses as his alibi in chapter 4.

I like how he switched chapters making us hang on wondering what was going to happen as the next chapter entered.

Me too. I thought it was brilliant in so many ways. But I don't think it stands a chance. Supporting actor, yes. And screenplay is Tarantino's best and only shot. It looks like avatar is probably going to win, unless hurt locker takes it. These 2 movies seem to be the top 2 choices. It's ashame because IB is a masterpiece for me. It had me on an emotional roller coaster.

I thought HL was good, but I wasn't at such an emotional rollercoaster, my feelings were mainly "is this bomb going to go off". It was a different look at war & the story was very good, but I wasn't as emotionally vested or passionate as I was watching IB.

I was getting annoyed with Wilhelm and his mates. My guts tied up into a knot once Hellstromm showed up though. It was the most tense part of the film that didn't involve Landa.

I just rewatched the movie for the 4th time, and I think Chapters 4 & 5 are my favorites. I can't imagine finding Chapter 4 to be slow...but Chapter 2 on the other hand? Yeah, that one kind of drags for me a little bit. I'm just much less interested in the Basterds' escapades before Operation Kino than I am in the rest of the story.

But still, I agree with whoever said this was their favorite screenplay since NCFOM. It's wonderful. And I could just watch that bar scene over and over.

Everyone raves about the bar scene, the opening, etc. (which were all fanflippingtasting no doubt), but this is actually my favorite moment in the film. I was just waiting for something to go wrong for her, and when the music kicked in...damn. Shudder and chills bro. Just great film making. Wonderful stylistic choice. The music still gives me chills, literally every time I watch that clip. Such an intense beat. The first time I saw the film, I actually found myself start drumming to the beat, bobbing my head viciously as if it were some kind of crazy dance move. Hahaha. t: And yeah, the milk bit...my lord.

Although I was fearing for her character, I couldn't help but break away from the film at the moment and smile to myself at what Tarantino had pulled off.

I love this movie. The writing is truly brilliant. Tarrantino said he thought it was his best writing and his masterpiece. I agree with him. My favorite of his films, more then Pulp or Dogs.

LOVE IT! My heart jumped at this part. I loved how he toyed with her. He's rather sadistic & arrogant. His arrogance underestimated her. He saw her as a RAT who would just run until caught. IMO this is the moment that changed the course of her life. This is when she became a basterd. She knew the he knew who she was & it was just a matter of time. And she decided to be offensive. It was a brilliant reversal on Tarantino's part to have this moment make Shosanna proactive instead of the usual having Landa take her down. Tarantino really showed brilliance in his unpredictability.
