Forget Joker being portrayed as violently on screen as Alex was in A Clockwork Orange. There's no way the studio will allow it.

Oh, sure they will... Look at Nicholson in 1989. I'm sure the stuff going on in that movie was waaaaay too adult-like for a children's audience. Hell, even the mood and the darkness of the movie was completely NOT for kids.

I think people are taking Ledger's comments a bit too literally. I highly doubt Nolan and Co will be so closely modeling the character's actions on Alex.

It's more of a question of personality. I think we can expect Joker to have a very similar attitude to Alex - a breezy, don't-give-a-damn, in-it-for-the-laughs anarchist.

Right. But why do you think the franchise went from Batman 89 to Schumacher's vision?

To appeal more for kids.

The new Franchise is obviously trying to walk a fine line between the two, from what i've seen.

I totally agree I never thought that Ledger meant he take Alex's actions as his inspirations, he said himself that, "its going to be more nuanced and dark... less about his laugh and more about his eyes."

And off the topic of the whole Clockwork Orange topic, and this can be moved if necessary. What do you guys think of the debate going on at BOF with the whole "cut smile" thing that Jett has been boasting about. Personally I disagree with it.

I agree, Batman Returns is the REAL reason. It's funny how everyone likes to take turns kissing Burton's cheek for his two movies, when they were a legitimate reason for the downfall of the franchise. When you go THAT dark, 1) It's hard to fu**ing SEE the movie, and 2) It's inevitable that the direction will be changed dramatically (i.e. Schumacher).

So really... I CAN'T blame Schumacher for all of it. In fact, if Schumacher directed B'89, I have a feeling we would've gotten a fantastic movie. He was really pressured on his two movies to make a cartoony Batman that sold toys.... it's not his fault, in my opinion.

PLUS, Schumacher is a damn good director.

People forget that 'BAtman Returns' was the 'Batman and Robin' movie before 'Batman and Robin' in a sense that they thought the franchise was dead after that movie.

'Batman forever' actually saved the BAtman movie series at that time.

And it you ever seen the deleted scenes that shcumnacher had for the movie, it was a much darker movie than was seen on the screen.

go and watch Phantom Of The Opera again. it may change your opinion.
schumacher is good in making low budget thrillers (like Falling Down or Phone Booth) but every time he makes a blockbuster kind of movie, he just sucks

i've seen clockwork orange. Funniest bit had to be the 'singing in the rain' bit.

Wow, I don't know if it was funny...disturbing would be the word I'd use. I mean, he's beating the guy to a cripple and raping his wife. Funny doesn't quite describe it.

I myself would go as far as to say Toy Story 2 was better than Shawshank. That movie's always been a bit overrated. As to whether it's better than A Clockwork Orange... hmm. Difficult to say.

Batman Returns for me is one of the greatest superhero movies ever but it didnt do as well as it could have at the box office. this doesnt mean that its a bad film though there are loads of films that initialy didnt do well at the box office but gain respect and cult following in later years.

when I'm comparing movies, it depends on the genre.

I love both Die Hard and Casablanca, but I can't choose over the other in terms of quality.
