F**k Cruise his movies are good but i'm tired of him playing the hero and he would want to much for a film like Iron Man, Oded Fehr and karl urban are still a few of my top choices.

NO TOM CRUISE

Think of all the baggage he'd bring to this film. He'd destroy it with his constant demands, not to mention his obnoxious publicity stunts with Katie Holmes. I'd be really disappointed if he was to be cast as Stark.

The best bet these days, when casting comic heroes, is to cast either a virtual unknown (Routh (even though he's going to be horrible IMO), Jackman) or an accomplished actor who is still largely unknown throughout the general public (Bale).

Again, Crudup or Caviezel.

Yeah I didn't think of that

But he would attract luctrative producers.

And Cruise can play a character like Tony Stark.

Again...I'm not against another actor taking the role. I'm just explaining the advantages of Cruise.

Then it's no longer an Iron Man film. It becomes a Tom Cruise movie. I don't want that. Iron Man won't have a problem getting funding.

^ There's always been talk about Crudup playing Iron Man but has he ever shown interest in the project? Has anyone ever asked him? Just curious.

It won't have a problem getting funding...because of the Superhero movie fad.

It will have a problem getting respect and good people working on it...because of the Superhero movie fad.

Crudup has made clear he'd never take a role like Iron Man, just like he didn't take Hulk.

If Favreau is indeed interested in helming this as is a possibility from that "Marvelous" hint then you might want to look at actors he's had on Dinner for Five who also might be otherwise appropriate. They include:

Timothy Olyphant

and of course the obvious one:

PS: I don't know why a new thread was needed here. If a mod can merge this with an old one that would be appreciated.

Timothy Olyphant is my new favorite choice. I came to this conclusion after watching The Girl Next Door.

well it does have to do with whether he wants him in the film or not.

I hate that guy too.

Ok, again. What does that have to do with his ability to play Iron Man? Nothing. And honestly I dont see that Timothy Olyphant has done anything to warrant any hatred unlike a Tom Cruise.

his look throws me off i could never see him playing a good guy.

I could see that, you ever watch Deadwood? He plays a "good" guy there.

Um...well seeing him onscreen and hating his preformances (which is probably what we're talking about here) is waayyyy more valid for casting than hating a guy's offscreen persona. Tom Cruise is (usually) great onscreen despite maybe being an idiot in real life.

I forgot he was in dreamcatcher forget what i said I don't hate him, but I still don't want him to play Iron man I don't think he has the look.

Whatever floats your boat.

I agree with the choice of Johny Depp. He's got the personna down, and he's one heck of an actor

To each his ow but the only great (acting) performances I've felt from Tom Cruise have been: Risky Business, Born on the 4th of July, Rain Man, and Jerry Maguire. And I've seen them all. War of the Worlds is as bad as acting can get as far as Tom's performance and I don't even want to get into Mission Implausible.

I thought he did a great job in WOTW

Tim Olyphant IS a good guy. He called Jay Mohr on being an a$$hole, to his face, on Dinner for 5.
