1.Im not saying the Krypton sequence was unneccessary.Im saying it was unnecssarily long.We got more chacracter development for Jorel than Kalel

2.I didnt say they should leave the fotress scene out. Im saying they should not have such a MASSIVE inf dump in one scene-it made the moment loose its significance. They should have sprinkled it out in other scenes.

3.This doesnt change the fact KAL BROUGHT ZOD TO EARTH!Its his mess to clean.

4.There plenty of other scenes to do that.Kal natural birth added nothing to KAL.

6.That doesnt change the fact hes being reactive.Which undersells Supermans love for humanity

7.It doesnt change my piont about MOS world being a world that doesnt need Superman now.

8.That statement has nothing to do with Jonathan wanting Clark to be a hero.In fact theres no scene in the ENTIRE movie Jonathan encourages Clark to be a hero.Just the opposite

9.Get this straight. So Jonathan tells him not to be a Hero the world will fear him and he needs to find out who he is.He goes on a journey finds out and Jorel tellshim to be a hero. What then was the piont of Jonthan being a hindrance to Clarks heroics untilhe finds out moreif at the end of the day Clarks just gonna discover he should be one?It makes no sense.
10.I didnt say the action scenes werent cool.Im saying they should have had more character moments interspersed with them

11.Too few for a Superman film.

12.It should have been in this MOVIE.Its a big part of Clarks origin arc.We shouldThats why Clark was hiding. He was hiding for fear of the worlds reaction.Yet he goes public and nothing happens. Its bad writing through and through. We should have seen the Worlds reaction to Superman when he dubuted not 2 years later when hes an established hero

13.In MOS case it was especially worse

14.Too few

15.I said Superman saves. The only people Superman saved was lois, his mom and a soldier from a copter.Too freaking low

And the entire planets population

1. I never said that you said it was unnecessary  I felt it was a good amount of time because it showed what was coming next. What would you say should have been cut from the Krpyton scenes?

2. But it made sense in the story to give all that info at that time, it's not like Kal was going to ask one question, go home, come back later in the movie and ask another question. He has been searching for many years for these answers and finally got them.

3. Yes you're right, it was. But I still feel that it's a better reason than, "Ohh I didn't like your father so you have to pay the price." That's just childish.

4. It did, it showed that he had a choice, unlike Zod or any other Kryptonians.

6. I guess. Maybe there should have been a small sequence of him saying people after the flight scene.

7. Couldn't you say that about many other Superman universes?

8. I think he does encourage him, it's only not as straight forward. Jonathon was always talking about the day he can be the hero.

9. I think it all about the world not being ready.

10. That's what I was saying..?

11. Okay. Say's who?

12. First off, we don't know if it's 2 years later and two, we will get the reaction in this next movie.

13. What do you mean?

14. Again, says who?

15. Teh World..

Yeah, the fears fine. Just not to the point of paranoia as if people are just plain evil or something. I mean, MOS had Clark go to a preacher to contemplate people can be trusted or not just like Zod. If people see that Superman is a positive, they will react postively to him. If they see that he's a negative (like MOS made it), they will react that way.

Which comic is that from?

I don't consider Pa Kent paranoid, but more scenes to show superman as a positive would be appreciated. Superman's impact hasn't been fully explored yet and maybe we'll get that in BvS.

I believe it's from JLA/Hitman miniseries by Garth Ennis and John McCrea.

That's just the way he came off to me. And a bit crazy. In regards to Superman's impact, I still don't understand why it wasn't explored when it was one of the main things they kept harping on in interviews. Very odd to me.

Oh, the one where Superman doesn't realize who he's talking to and it ends with Hitman living up to his name? :funny:

I found him conflicted and somewhat underwritten, but I tend to buy into the idea that humanity is capable of both great evil and great kindness and Pa throwing his son into it all is quite a gamble.

I guess the reaction was included in a small way, but I was hoping for more. I think the origin and an alien invasion story may have been too much to put into one movie and have it all come out fully baked. I'll be more than a bit annoyed if it's not addressed more heavily in BvS.

Yep, I think that's the one.:oldrazz:

Eh, no more a gamble than any other parent who let's their kid grow.

Maybe not too much (when you consider that Superman I and II were originally supposed to be one long film and MOS is essentially a remake). They just simply didn't let him really be Superman and allow people to decide if they like him or not. They just made him some random alien that all of sudden was the source of their potential destruction. Hell, Superman was uttered 2-3 times in the whole film.

And of course Batman has to point it out to Superman later...

So...the average parent has to worry about their alien, super-powered kid being snatched from them by some government agency to be subjected to potentially torturous experiments? Okay then. :o

That's mostly why I think of MOS as a pre-superman tale. We saw his beginnings. I wasn't against an origin story, but am eager to move on from it nonetheless and see him earn the name fully.

If that's what you're taking away from the conversation, then... yes.

But, why make a film about a pre-Superman? Seems like a waste of time to me especially when there's no guarantee you're going to be given the chance to continue that story.

I don't know why, to be honest. Maybe they figured it would sell and they'd get more movies. Maybe they find pre-superman interesting. Only Goyer, Snyder and Nolan know for sure. :oldrazz:

Because it was an interesting story to tell. We haven't really seen a "What did Superman do on his first day" story.

Nah, that's a gamble worth millions. SR and GL lost theirs.

Huh?

So, I guess I just totally imagined that movie where Superman catches Lois, a helicopter, stops armed robbers on a boat, gives a stranded cat to a little girl, saves the President when Air Force One's engine is destroyed by lightening, then tells his dad how awesome it was to help people?

Speaking of Jor-El: did anyone else think there was enough of a resemblance between Cavill and Crowe for it to be believable that they were father and son?

On the one hand they don't look that much alike, on the other hand, Hollywood never cares about this so I for one am conditioned not to care too much about family resemblance when I'm watching movies or TV.

Plus, you're making all sorts of assumptions. Does Kryptonian and Human inheritance operate in the same manner? Was Lara Vor-Van actually faithful to her husband? Who are you to make these assumptions?

I felt that the eyes and the nose and the voice that Cavill put on as Clark totally worked to sell me on the two being father and son. Suspension of disbelief was totally solid. Or suspended. Or held up.... Whatever.

I also never look too much into father/son mother/daughter resemblance in movies. Some they try to acknowledge it, others don't care. I think that's taking nit-picking to an extreme.

The only times they ever looked alike to me is the comics, toons, and Smallville (when Welling played him :funny:).

and even there, welling actually didn't look like Clark.

That's true. All movies are probably a gamble to various degrees. Why do you think they did it?

I thought they were close enough that it didn't bother me. Lara and Clark looked more alike and some people take after one parent more than the other. Same could be true for Kryptonians, I guess.

Why SR? Probably because of the success Singer had with X-Men. Similar to MOS except with Nolan.

Why GL? Probably because of the success of Iron Man and claims of it being the "Star Wars of the DCU".

And the entire planets population

Don't forget the bus full of children, the oil rig workers, the air pilot in the Smallville battle when he hit Faora in mid-air when they went through the iHop and Colonel Hardy from Faora again. How people forget!

I am excited. So excited that it became my most anticipated movie. It's like Avengers but has heroes I that actually care about lol.

Agreed, my anticpation and excitement for this far outweighs anything for Marvel, I know I'm a DC kid more than Marvel so it's to be expected but the whole concept of 'them all on screen' together vibe I know will be way beyond Avengers, a circular tracking shot (like Avengers) or a rooftop reveal shot will have me as giddy as a five year old at a jelly and ice cream birthday party.
