Transformers Is it exaggerating to start a "upgrade" megatron site?

www.upgrademegatron.com ?

  • let's do it, start sign book, let the voice be heard

  • no, it's gonna make things worse

  • hmmm, it won't make pretty much any differences

Because when looking at them visually, they looked lame and outdated. And in order to be taken seriously, they were updated and/or changed. That's why.

what is this answer to? I didn't ask anything like this.

They couldn't go too far with OP b/c he;s the most recognizable character, the one with the most following, etc. Fans would boycott the movie, and go even crazier then they are now if OP was re-imagined. Not to mention the design of OP in itself is much easier to translate on film w/o looking lame. And yet still they had to make improvements, and they made OP look way more kick ass, and serious. When adapting Megatron, they probably thought it looked just straight silly. So, to make a villian that was actually threatning, they gave him a new design. Same goes for the rest.

meh...easy way out. "Let's put all this effort into Optimus Prime but to hell with trying to adapt the rest...just do whatever you want with them".

And you must not have seen what they originally wanted for Prime have you? LAAAME.

No, it isn't the easy way out. It's more difficult to re-design something, then copy and past with minor changes.

So the movie version of Optimus Prime is a "copy and paste with minor changes"? I've always found it more difficult to adapt something, whether it be a story or a design, than to start from scratch with my OWN ideas in mind. Its up to the imagination of the designer and the constrictions placed upon them by their management.

They are adapting it, and adapting it means making it fit into the world they created.

Yes, Optimus is a copy and past job with minor changes. Respecting your source material.

If you think it's harder to copy work, then to create stuff from scratch ... you must be hella stupid, bro. That's like saying its more difficult to plagarize someone's paper on a topic, then it is to create your own piece of works from YOUR perspective.

Your last sentence in your post makes no sense. You really can't imagine too much on a grand scale, when you have too many restrictions placed upon an artist.

Then they could have done the same thing with the rest of the bots. But your reason they didn't is because the original designs were lame, right?

You must be seriously unoriginal then. And no, I'm not "hella stupid bro". To make the effort to adapt something that is iconic and update it to make it marketable to today's audience is difficult...if you don't think it is then maybe you are "hella stupid bro".

Yeah, they're called Producers. Get it?

What did the originally want?

that looks fuglier than Rosie O'Donnel. boy am i glad they tweeked him...that's just horrible. he looks like a metal tree...

They were probably aware of the fan backlash by then.

Yea. Prime sure looks a lot more serious now with the "Pimp My Ride" look.

I'm sure he's got a plasma screen TV and a waterfall on the inside too.

Well, if they don't give megs a new alt mode in this movie, I'm sure they will in the next. The question is: What will the alt mode be?

That could be a useful thread. A poll voting on alt modes for Megs. We know Bay keeps an eye on the internets...

so start the site? that's a cool domain name available there. :D

As has been said about a billion times in this forum...there can be updating while still maintaining resemblance.

Why couldn't they do THAT with the rest of the Transformers?

I'm going to go out on limb and say the original version looks better. :ninja:

Some fanboys just can't take change, and adaptation. If there was no toys, you wouldn't have ven had the cartoon, so shut it. Megs look intimidating. Who wants to see lame 80's cartoon models for a big budget, seriously threatning, in your face, new millenia version of these characters? Some of yall just can't get your ideas and visions out of the box. These characters look way cooler than their cartoon counterparts.
Change for the sake of change trivializes the fans and our lifelong commitment to the characters..

If ILM made a sleeked-up, 50-foot version of this Megatron attacking a city people would still go see the movie in droves. :trans:

No one is going to boycott a Transformers movie because the characters are "too recognizable". :whatever:

People go to a Transformers movie expecting *gasps* actual known Transformers, not giant twisted up scrap metal monsters that look like giant robot-chicken hybrids. :o

O.K we all know Meg's is in his cybertronian mode in the movie. Look how vastly different Ironhide looks from the time he comes out of the pool, to his final earth mode in the movie...completely different.

The only reason i'm tolerating the Megatron look in TF 1 because i know in TF 2, he will more than likely look totally different, and if the fim makers have heard the cries on the internet, he'll look more like his G1 counterpart.

Pity, he's just as iconic as Prime to most...

This argument will go on forever.

The only way it could be settled would be if ILM did a sequence twice, once with G1 cg bots and then exactly the same but with the movie versions.

Then we could look and compare the two and maybe come to a consensus.

For people who love the G1 designs over all else, they will always be the best as long as it's up to their imagination.
