Is it time to end The Simpsons?

Is it time to end The Simpsons?

  • Yes, They should stop making it now, its no longer funny.

  • No, I still very much enjoy The Simpsons and think it should carry on as long as it's funny.

  • I have another opinion and will state in the thread.

  • I have no opinion on this matter.

  • I am the only person on earth who is wondering whats 'The Simpsons'

Family guy was funny originally and once it came back, but its a garbage show overall. Just random scenes. Dont see it lasting over 20 years.

Simpsons will last till 25 and call it quits. Fox has become a weird network, and the constant arguing between the actors and the network is basically the kiss of death.

i've been watching the first & second season episodes of Family Guy on Adult Swim lately and it's amazing how downhill the show has gone. it's true that once Fox brought it back from cancellation it did change. now it just relies on random useless flashback scenes and the characters have gotten a lot more dumber and unlikeable.

I've watched some of the old Family Guy episodes recently, for the first time in a long time. It always could always made better use of its characters, but at least the jokes were funny. For the last few years it's basically been a 30-minute Robot Chicken where all the parodies have the same characters. And maybe a half-assed political diatribe thrown in the mix.

At least The Simpsons, even in its most average and playing-it-safe episodes, still has characters I'm attached to.

Basically. Robot Chicken (which I enjoy, for the most part) at least has the excuse of actually being a sketch show. That kind of stuff on Family Guy basically just signifies that the writers aren't smart and/or funny enough to come up with 22 minutes of actual material per episode.

And lets not get into the Chicken Fights and all the other idiotic gags that last for five minutes at a time.

I won't go into the Chicken Fights beyond they started out as funny. Now they're just another shin gag or Conway Twitty. At least we never got that crap in The Simpsons.

The amount of times I've heard "Spider-pig" has matched the annoyance I have when it comes to the Chicken Fights.

Everything said on this page about Family Guy, I couldn't agree more. Season 2 is my absolute favourite with "Wasted Talent" (the Willy Wonka parody) being my favourite episode.
At first, and I think ONLY at first, the Conway Twitty thing was funny. Then they used it again. And again. Then, they played a whole song of his. Which to me was a sign that the writers didn't know what to do with the episode and used that to fill the time. The writing now is very lazy and I actually don't watch the new episodes as i've been disappointed too many times now.

Seth has spread him self so thin that nearly all of his shows suck these days. He really should just have one show and put all of his efforts into it.

Absolutely true. The first three seasons of FG actually had plots and genuinely funny material. But after its second cancellation, it just isn't as funny anymore. The flashback scenes were used sparingly and effectively in the show's earlier seasons, but now they're a crutch. A very unfunny crutch.

It's disheartening, really.

also, WTF is up with those random Conway Twitty scenes in certain episodes?? what genius writer on the show thought that this would be funny?!

Once it was random enough to be funny as you had no idea what/who it was. Then it was used again. And again. Then a whole song. A whole song! I really gave up after that.
I imagine a writer found it on the internet, found it funny enough to show other writers and it found it's way onto the show. They just use it now when they're running low on ideas.
To The Simpsons credit, they haven't got anything like Conway Twitty "jokes". At least, not to the best of my knowledge.

Would be neat to get the old cast and crew together for an eight or twelve episode finale season...but is that even possible anymore?

As far as I know they are all still there.

It's been well past time to end The Simpsons and there have been moments where it could've ended, like 'Behind the Laughter.' Now, as the show dwindles in the ratings, The Simpsons has become the very show that it satirized in its inception: a run-of-the-mill sitcom utilizing the tropes that this show in its prime dragged over the coals.

Wow, six years after this thread was started the question is as relevant now as it was then!

Yes, it should go. I was a huge Simpsons fan for many years. Really, the show could do no wrong, with comedy writing and performances that stood with the best there's ever been. Now if I see it's on I change the channel. Never thought I'd say that :csad:

Yeah.....no. The original cast is there, Al Jean is there, but the writing team is not consistently the same. You'll get old writers in there sometimes though.

I have a contrarian view!

As someone who doesn't watch the Simpsons anymore, there is a kind of comfort that comes from knowing that it's still out there somewhere running.
