I enjoyed that aspect of MoS where various families of Krypton had different symbols to represent their house, it was like Superman meets Game of Thrones.

I'm actually in the minority on the Kryptonian house symbols and the S shield being the family crest of the Els. It's one of the few things I don't like from the Donner films that was adapted into the mythos at large later.

I would rather it be HIS symbol, not just him carrying on something from his biological family. He keeps their legacy alive in varying ways. I wish it were something he came up with after getting the name Superman from Lois. But that's me.

I think for me a big part is that I think Superman should be a unique thing. That, the costume the symbol, they are something which is about him bringing his two sides together, the adopted child of Earth and the Last Son of Krypton. Making the suit and the symbol continuations of Krypton and the Els gives the Krypton side of the equation a certain level of primacy. In the Golden and Silver Age, and in Byrne's Re-Boot the costume and symbol are generated here on Earth, something unique to his life here.

Again, that's just me. I get the streamlining that Donner introduced by making it the symbol of the House of El. There's an elegance to tying it all together. But I prefer it the old way.

Maybe, but in Donner and Snyder's films it's a specifically family crest. I think it's the case in Birthright and Earth One as well.

Well, the final product of a film is very much gelled when you get to the editing process. For all we know there was some point where this added piece of texture, the Kryptonian language, was spotlighted but it ended up being cut. And that's what it added, even not being closely showcased: Texture. You see the writing all over and it's even integrated into the Superman costume. These things add weight and detail to an adaptation, like the runes on Mjolnir in the MCU.

There was a story in the early 90's, PANIC IN THE SKY, and in that Superman leads the heroes of Earth against your standard alien invasion and as part of the battle strategy they use Kryptonian as a code for battlefield communication. Being a truly ''dead'' language it worked to keep their plans secret. I could be down with that being used in a future film.

If you didn't like MOS then I don't think you are going to like BvS DJ. And if those products don't get your juices flowing I doubt anything will.

It's a nice little bit of detail, and a bit of a nod to the use of Navajo to fool the Japanese in WWII.
