BvS It's always Darkest before The Dawn... Chris Terrio IS the Script Writer

^ I figure that sense they made up Kryptonian for writing on the wall, that they might as well use it.

A good death is its own reward is good, especially when Hardy says it. It comes a little out of the blue when Faora does.

The speeches ripped from AllStar are nice, but I think an even better writer would add more significance of those words to the narrative (yeah, I know, they help inspire Clark, etc).

Here is a woman bred to live and die as a military commander. She is about to kill a commander and uttered a phrase letting him know that to die in combat is a reward for a warrior. It's not unlike the frame of mind the spartans had.

It would be a bit much to have all that action in the first scenes with the camera tricks and spfx and expecting the audience to read.

^ Like I said, the good bits are subtle and the bad parts are overblown..

Like a certain storm with Pa Kent ;)

"Where did you train-on a farm?!"-Great, especially the delivery.

"Jor-El: Our people can co-exist.
General Zod: So we can suffer through years of pain, trying to adapt like your son has?
Jor-El: You're talking about genocide.
General Zod: Yes! And I'm arguing its merits with a ghost."
-Mediocre, IMHO. The thought of conquering Earth doesn't cross Zod's mind.

Borderline

"Faora: You're weak, son of El. The fact that you possess a sense of morality and we do not gives us an evolutionary advantage. And if history has proven anything, it is that evolution always wins!"

Faora doesn't seem to know the difference between survival of the fittest and Evolution. Either Kryptonians know all about evolution, or they are so far removed from worldly science that it doesn't matter. Good delivery, though.

BAD

"Lois Lane: They say it's all downhill after the first kiss.
Clark Kent/Kal-El: Only if you're kissing a human."

Terrible

"Are you effing stupid?!"

Also, the Kryptonians speak English. With NO explanation.

At least Kara in the Supergirl comic could ONLY speak Kryptonian, intially speaking.

That is some in depth scrutinizing haha. Each to their own though mate. IMO "Downhill after first kiss" bit and "kinda hot" bit were the only wanky bits of dialogue.

Also I ****in loved the way the Kryptonians spoke. There was a certain kind of diction they all seemed to adhere to that was very matter of fact and articulate I thought.

This is interesting. She is clearly speaking more about natural selection which is in the school of evolution. From my understanding, evolution had been around before Darwin, and the man simply gave forth the theory of natural selection which is rooted in 'survival of the fittest'. Yet we often refer to his works as the authority on 'evolution'

Is it really all that much of a flaw if you look at the point of what she's saying The strongest, most merciless survive in a pool, the cannibalistic spiders with the least morality tend to endure..this mentality is something evolved into and perhaps like kryptonians man will evolve into that level of 'zodhood' in the future, till then advantage faora?
I suppose this is where 'better dialogue' comes into play, perhaps it all hinges upon the audience..

Either way, it's an interesting point.

as long as no more "boy childs" make it into the script. :o

We had a child. A man-child

:P

I liked all of Faora's lines.

I didn't like boy child, this is madness, ****splash, you're a monster, I'm going to stop you, kissing a human....

Haha, the boy child line actually didn't bother me. I just figured, "guess that's how they talk on Krypton".

Boy child seems more to me like a medieval reference, since Kryptonian culture is very similar to medieval times. It's certainly not as cringeworthy as dicksplash...

Is it a big deal if it's just another variant? Like I said, it is something a soldier/tactician would say, so where's the big deal? Worse is the fan mentality of critiquing dialogue and expecting the characters to go into some philosophical debates. As for Goyer, do you really think that is the case for all writers? I have yet to see people complain about dialogue issues from the Avengers, yet Goyer's dialogue is critiqued to hell and back, and hell again.

The whole reason I said "suggest something better then," is because fans walk a thin line between expecting deep monologues about a philosophical issue (when it really isn't necessary) vs. making characters sound pretentious because of increased vocabulary (which is also superfluous considering that dialogue is supposed to be reflecting everyday human interactions, to be understood by all people, not scholarly debates which would exclude a majority of its viewers).

Never did I say I'd rather a deep monologue though. I'd like the dialogue to still fulfil the same purpose they were going for there, but to be original and smart, not derivative and lazy. We can agree to disagree that that's how a tactician/soldier sounds, but even if that's the case, movies don't have to or shouldn't just be the kind of language we hear everyday. It's allowed to be smarter and funnier and more knowledgable of the dictionary and thesaurus. They're fictional worlds and it's ok that inside them they graduated from a higher level of English then us. It's then that it actually reflects back onto our society and makes us lift our game.

I don't get the constant snark about the boy child line either. There were undoubtedly some lines of dialog that fell flat, but this is not one of them. It might not be an everyday expression you might hear in your backyard, but I don't see how it would inherently be a bad line. It is spoken by an alien, on an unimaginably distant planet, at a moment when the world is falling apart. I guess a lot of people just forget that because the Kryptonians look like humans and for the purposes of the film speak English.

Everyone's got their opinions

i thought dicksplash was a common American insult?? In Manchester that's how we imagine American's talking. Dicksplash, *******, dickweed, *****ebag....

Even then, the purpose is still there, to show Captain as a leader and to kill anything that is against them. It doesn't have to be unique, as long as it gets the point across simple and effectively. How exactly do you make a smart and original army strategy dialogue? It's allowed to be smarter and more knowledgeable of the D/T based on what? There are a lot of movies with witty and reverent dialogue, and yet I don't see society using much of the same kind of dialogue.

I lived in New York City my whole life and that movie was the first time I've ever heard the term "dicksplash"

Movies do this all the time. See Wolf of Wall Street and suddenly everyone knowing what penny stocks are. I'm sure plenty of people looked up what a mewling quim was after Avengers too.

Good writing always affects someone and the vernacular does get boosted.

The reason I didn't like the ****splash line was because it seemed jarring in the context of the film. MOS tried to be somewhat "high-brow" or like a quality drama (in which it sometimes succeed and sometimes didn't). That line stuck out like a sore thumb. It just took me out of the scene for a second. There were a million less jarring words Goyer could have used. I have no idea how he decided on that one. I have never heard of it before.

Some of these complaints about the dialogue...(shakes head)

But then "Where did you train? On a farm" is an example of great dialogue?

Whatever.

Sometimes I think people just want more quips.

Conversations, dialect and observations are "terrible". But "one liners"? That's where its at.

i was only dickin about haha. Although it does sound like something you lot could possibly say...dickweed and *****ebag aren't that much better than dicksplash.

Dicksplash is well funny actually. dick splash. Say it and think of the meaning...a splash of dick...dicksplash. ****in genuis that Goyer.

The kid was a bully. They like to say stupid **** to get under the skin of who they're bullying.
