I think they got SO close with a good Thing in the past two films - if they would have just given him the proper BROW, moved the NOSE up [the did it to ALL the actors in THE GRINCH, so it could have been done here], and widen the mouth corners with a little digital help - and there you are!

I actually remember Tim Story himself defending the lack of a brow and saying something along the lines of: "These fans don't get it but you can't have a big brow or it looks too cartoonish."

He might have been told that by a higher up and then was going with the company line, but he certainly stood up for the decision.

That's what i've thought too. He looks very similar and not like Ben really at all. Why waste him on someone who will be covered up or CGI?

NO....he was a whiner after the first movie, just watch the movie with the comments on....I was totally shocked at how much he whined. And then he put it to a whole new level in the promotion of the 2nd movie. NO...NO MORE Chiklis. There are MANY, MANY actors out there that would be great in the role.

Also, it was Chiklis that refused to play the part if it was CGI.....which IMO was one of the problems with The Thing.

The Thing was NEVER going to be CGI in the Fox FF movies - at no point were they willing to commit the budget necessary to do this - he was ALWAYS intended to be a make-up.

I am simply stating what Chiklis stated in the first major interview that they made at comic con. Never said that it was or was not supposed to be CGI, partial CGI, etc....simply stating what he said.

Yeah, having a human smoke is pushing it but having an ugly cute CG character who kids will love smoking won't fly.
