For comparison:

When I see that pic, I definitely see THE THING. Of course pants would be nice, but maybe he has just come out of his cocoon. So where will he find a pair of pants or shorts that fit his size? Reed and others cannot possibly predict what happens to Ben or how his body will change in order to have a suit ready in advance for him.

Highly unlikely since all the other characters are in their customised containment suits, made especially for their individual powers. If they didn't have a suit ready for Ben why would they have had suits for themselves.

Because others still have human bodies and are not in cocoons. These containment suits are built AFTER the accident. Reed, Johnny and Sue get powers but their body shape doesn't change. Whoever builds the suits does have their measurements...LOL

Whereas Ben gets trapped in a cocoon of sorts and is transforming within it. Since no one knows whether he is alive or dead...or what is within the coocoon, how can you make the right size of pants or shorts?

And I have a feeling Ben will be mostly a cocoon and it won't be until the end of 2nd act that he hatches. By then, doom has already created a mess and the other three are trying to stop him but unable to, so Ben joins the three to stop doom. In all this where will he get the time to wear pants lol?

It definitely looks better than the concept art, and between that shot from the trailer and the leaked bust, the Design of The Thing may be one of the brighter points of this.

But I don't know why they made some of the diversions they did - making him rougher and lumpier and it looks like he might have the four sharp fingers of the concept instead of his trademark three thick, blocky fingers. . . and PUT SOME DAMN PANTS ON HIM.

. . . but with how bad everything else looks, I guess I should be glad The Thing at least looks close.

Gaze in wonder as fan-favorite, the ever-lovin' Blue-Eyed THING is...trapped in a rock cocoon for a third of the movie he's in...

Grounded! Realistic! Boring as ****! Trying to save as much money on this turkey as possible!

Oh yeah, the Rock Cacoon thing creeped the hell out of me. I'm imagining so over dramatic seen where's he's struggling to get out and screaming and crying and all of that jive.

Maybe there's an in-between form we haven't seen? Like how Kirby drew him in the early comics.

So he just looks like he has a skin condition and getting heavier at first until he completely transforms? So he will have a containment suit but it ends up ripped up when he makes his final change.

That could be how they saved on CGI.

After seeing this new poster, I rescind these optimistic comments I made just a couple weeks ago. My hope for a decent Thing is gone.:csad:

The Fantastic Four. Nobody smile! :oldrazz:

To me the worst thing about this version of the Thing is still the actor behind him. I just can't believe how anyone would look to Jamie Bell of all people and think he'd be even half decent for the role.

The Thing might not look faithful compare to his look in the comics but he looks like hes really made of rocks compare to the past two Things. He does look very intimidating and strong. i do hope hes more orange... the pic looks desaturated in color.

Going from the trailer I would say that's as close to orange as you will likely see him.

Right... got it... generic rock man. hooray.

And this is why we haven't gotten a good look at Thing before now. The two biggest things that could have changed the opinions of fans about this film were a good looking Thing and a good looking Doom. That we hadn't seen them for so long (and still don't have a good shot of Doom) was a HUGE indicator that those designs are horrible. Half of that equation is now confirmed. This 'Thing' is embarrassing.

Yep. I've been holding out the irrational hope that they could nail those two things, but they're definitely off on the Thing and based on the leaked Doom images, there's not much hope there either.

But you're right, it does at least make sense now. They didn't show up at Comic -Con with these designs because they would have gotten booed off the stage.

Just to depress the people who give a damn, there's no reason they couldn't have done this with CGI:

The Thing looks good to me.

Certainly better than the other movies.

The Thing's facial features should be somewhat distinctive. It's hard to tell with the angle of the poster image and the lighting if his mouth is really that small or if it stretches wider across his face.

Another example of a 'realistic' Thing is the Alex Ross bust - though it strays a bit from the classic comic version.

I'm thinking though that their sole inspiration for their version was the Jae Lee version from the 'Hulk & Thing: Hard Knocks' mini - which is also a departure from the classic version.
