It's Clobbering Time! The Ben Grimm/ Thing moments we want to see in the MCU

Since he will be 99% CGI, it raises an intriguing possibility. Get the absolute best voice-actor possible, looks be damned.

Then get a body actor for human Ben that has the right face and body. Then dub the voice actor over that stand-in. And CGI could be used to lay the voice-actor’s expressions on the stand in to make it feel right. Nothing crazy. They don’t have to replace the actors face like they did with Luke Skywalker, just smooth things out so the voice and face blend seamlessly.

And a similar technique could be used for Doom.

That would provide a lot more flexibility in casting two roles that need to be cast right.

Let’s get our James Earl Jones without letting the brief human appearances handcuff us.

I totally agree and I would bring back Chiklis for the voice. His Thing voice was fantastic.

how do y'all feel about Ron Perlman (Hellboy) as the voice and/or actor for Ben

latest

I don't want Chiklis back. He did great but let's get new talent in there. Also, while marvel could get away with a body double as Ben, I think there's something to be said about the advancements in motion capture. Some of the best performances were done with both the actors movements and expressions. Looks at thanos, hulk (especially endgame), Caesar (or any of Andy's works) they have the DNA of the actor in the role. It's not like Ironman or the mandalorian where you just dub a voice over an expressionless face, the things face is very expressive and I'd hate to lose that by not having a great actor doing the facial and body work.

what about, Sam Witwer?
got a good look for human Ben, has experience with voice acting/ Mocap work

(only lacking in the blue eyes (but, that's what contacts are for) an Idk his ethic background)

I could see Daveed Diggs as a pretty inspired choice.
I like him in Hamilton and Snowpiercer (silly show that it is). He has such a distinctive voice, I've been trying to picture him saying "It's clobbering time".

I don't necessarily mind race swapping characters, but in this case it almost seems like it might be a bit of a copout, since he would be orange CGI most of the time (presumably). Also, the Fantastic Four are my favorite comic book characters ever, and I really want to see them like they just walked off the pages of the comic book. Call me selfish. I guess the Thing would still look the same, but like I said it seems like a cop out. Still, Diggs is not the worst suggestion I've heard.

The voice isn’t a huge deal to me since I could always see them tooling with some audio effects.

And I get wanting to see all the characters exactly as you remember them, but I just don’t see Marvel doing that here. At least one of the Four will be non-white. It’s just the way the genre is progressing and Marvel seems to be pushing hard for more diverse stories.

Well, you may be right, we'll see. Admittedly, I am a purist. I feel like the FF is very, very special in Marvel's history, so they deserve at least one good movie as a true adaptation.

But let's say for the sake of argument that you are going to race swap one of them, which should it be? I've always thought it should be Reed. Johnny and Sue are siblings, so if you change one, you should change them both (which is fine). I don't like the "adopted" idea from Fan4stic. And you can change Ben, but as I said before it kind of defeats the purpose (and he wouldn't be the ever lovin' blue eyed Thing, unless cosmic rays effect eye color). So it seems to me either change Reed, Johnny AND Sue, or all three. Or all four, I guess.

I get that it's a controversial choice, but Seth Rogen is still my favorite pick for Ben. He's got a great voice for it, a good sense of humor, and with his recent image makeover could totally put on a brawler/bad*** pilot look. Plus, after a lot of people were disappointed by Moon Knight's handling of Judaism, it would be nice to have a Jewish actor to hopefully keep that part of the character present and accurately depicted.

If you believe all the rumors, he seems to have the inside track. I can see Rogen as The Thing, with his voice. But I cannot see him as Ben Grimm, college friend and bodyguard of Reed Richards. That part of the story is fleeting, though.

Rogen's gotten in pretty good shape lately. With him clean-shaven, cropped hair and a few weeks pumping iron, I definitely think he can sell a rough-and-tumble Jewish gang kid-turned football star-turned protective best friend.

I’ve wondered if his weight loss might be related a role he wanted to lobby for.

His name has been getting kicked around for a while, and I wondered if he might be saying: “Look. I can do it.”

I’m on the fence. I think he might be able to do it, but it would be a different type of role than I’ve ever seen him in. I’d like to see him read through some lines

That's pretty much how I feel about it. It such a different role for him. But if it's announced that he's the guy, I won't be upset about it.

I'm a fan of Rogen's but not of this casting. Recently loved him in Pam & Tommy. Don't want him as Ben.

agreed. i have a feeling he will have good comedic and improv chemistry with our potential Reed

ironically he did audition for the role of Dwight (so they were nearly costars)

you know that kinda take me back to an older (unconventional) suggestion of mine in Jason Segel (who was in fact real life friends with Krasinsky) Segel and Blunt had worked on a couple projects together, so, they'd all hang out

interesting...yes I think Jason Segal is a natural fit for the MCU - great comedic actor but has a superhero frame - he can probably pull off the Marvel body given some personal training - BODIES BY JASON LOL
fast forward to 1:53

They should have had Segal play Morbius, and he could have performed Dracula's Lament.

I'll take him over Rogen. It also helps that he's a big dude.

tru, normally I'd say height doesn't matter, but...
especially next to Krasinski, whose like 6'3" himself, would tower over someone like Seth
so, getting someone who even when showing the team {in per- transformation forum} would still strike that group dynamic silhouette/ profile...

...of being the tallest

I mean, yes, in terms of, the Thing, it doesn't matter cause they'll be most likely CG, but still

Ha, that would have been awesome. Although I do love the Dwight we got anyway.
