It's Clobbering Time! The Ben Grimm/ Thing moments we want to see in the MCU

If they’re friends and, hypothetically, Krasinski gets cast first, he could say: “Hey, I know a guy who would do a great job as Ben.”

The voice isn’t a huge deal to me since I could always see them tooling with some audio effects.

And I get wanting to see all the characters exactly as you remember them, but I just don’t see Marvel doing that here. At least one of the Four will be non-white. It’s just the way the genre is progressing and Marvel seems to be pushing hard for more diverse stories.

I don't think that'll be the case. I think Krasinki is a done deal, Sue and Johnny are brother and sister (I don't see them pulling a Fant4stic in this movie), and don't see them messing with Ben's background as it's a big part of who he is.

We’ll see. I’m just not convinced right now.

John Cena as Ben Grimm
Cena is a talented guy, but I think they need a better actor for Ben. Besides, the Thing will likely be CGI, and they don't need a guy with real muscles. I'd cast Cena as Doc Samson, or maybe Hyperion.

Cena would be a perfect Doc Sampson - plus wasnt he romantically involved with She Hulk at some point? That would be great to see that interplay onscreen with Cena and Tatiana Maslany - i think they would hit it off

Aw, doc Sampson! Miss him. Not sure if I love Cena as Sampson but I wouldn’t hate it

Ben Foster would probably be my 2nd choice as Ben Grimm

Ben Foster is one of the most talented actors working today - him and David Oyelowo

both need to be in the MCU - STAT!

Ben already played Angel in the Fox X-verse but I think he would make an even better villain as he proved in 3:10 To Yuma. David would be excellent in any role - I see him as more of a hero, but he is so flexible he can portray a villain with gravitas.

I feel like we need a bear type body shape in the mcu. Like we’ve got twinks, daddies, jocks etc. long overdue for a bear. Kevin feige hasn’t returned my calls when I try to explain this

Well, we did get fat Thor.

I have a confession to make. I've never hated Chiklis' Thing costume.
There's something to be said for a real life prop vs. CGI.
Not that I'm saying the new Thing should be a guy in a costume, I'm just saying I didn't mind Chiklis' costume.

Anyone else think the CGI from the new She-Hulk trailer looks kinda weird? Maybe it isn't finished yet.

yeah that was more of like a “isn’t it funny he has this body type! Don’t worry we’ll fix it later” joke. Like, I really want to see a thick, heavy set, working class Ben in contrast to Reed, who literally has like daily conversations with the president

No I saw it recently and although not perfect it certainly didn’t deserve the hate

I thought they did a great job with the suit, but there were limitations.

When it wrinkled and clearly wasn’t rigid, that made it obvious it was a suit, but they did a better job of that in the second film. They also improved his face and brow in the second film.

But I think my biggest issue was that Chiklis moved awkwardly and clumsily in it. When Kirby drew him, there was a sense of power in the way he would charge and lunge and that never came through on film.

And finally, I’m really looking forward to seeing his proportions rendered with no limitations. The suit didn’t have long enough arms or big enough hands etc.

While the movie was terrible and Ben’s design was terrible, this moment gives an idea of the kind of power and movement a properly designed CGI Ben could demonstrate:

Even though Ben is very heavy, he’s so strong that his body and limbs weigh nothing to him, so he shoukd be able to move with incredible power. That should be a sight to see in Marvel’s hands.

She-Hulk looks atrocious. I honestly feel like Feige doesn't have the hand in the Disney Plus shows that we think he has. They're sloppy and mostly subpar. I can't believe they released that She-Hulk trailer and actually celebrated the view count on Twitter. They must know 75% of those views are people just looking to witness the trash us hardcore fans are talking about. They should delay that show 6 months or whatever it takes to make it look somewhat tolerable. Yikes.

I dug Chiklis' Thing costumes. That was the era of studios trying to ground the larger than life characters. Chiklis Thing, Vinnie Jones Juggernaut, Michael Clarke Duncan Kingpin...all okay for their time. But suits just don't work anymore. Loved seeing a 10 ft tall CGI Juggernaut in Deadpool 2 literally tear Wade in half. Can't wait to see The Thing doing fantastic things!

I get what you're saying, but I just can't see a clip from Fan4stic without cringing.

:funny:

Regarding She Hulk, I’m hoping it looks less uncanny valley when we see more extended scenes.

I think our brains will adjust and buy-in more if we’re watching her have a conversation etc. I’m hoping those moments look worse in brief snippets because it’s jarring and too brief for us to see everything working together.

And I’d hate for them to get scared away so they don’t give us characters like that in the future.

I’d rather a show with plenty of green Jennifer Walters even if the CGI is questionable than a show with very little actual She Hulk.

Or they can just get the CGI right and not have us choose the lesser of two evils.

They're compromising their brand with that garbage they put out in the trailer. They have too much money. It's unacceptable really.

My first reaction to the trailer was: “I want to see that show!”

My second reaction to the trailer was: “That scene in the lab was great.”

My third reaction to the trailer was: “I wonder how big of a role the Abomination will have.”

my 187th reaction to the trailer was: “That CGI looked a little funky. I wonder how it will look/feel in the actual show.”

I won’t be cancelling my subscription, but you’re certainly free to cancel yours.

I've got to admit, noticing the wonky CGI was higher up on my list than that. But from what I understand, a lot of the time the CGI in trailers aren't totally polished up when they put them out, so I'll wait until it comes out.

i was kind of hoping She-Hulk would have some breaking of the fourth wall type of stuff, but I guess that was done with Deadpool.

The trailer racked up over 250,000 dislikes on YouTube in 2 days. There's literally never been another Marvel Studios [endorsed] project to receive such a negative reaction.

This is gonna turn into another Sonic the Movie fiasco where the studio will rush to completely redo the CGI to save face.

I'm still having a hard time believing Feige allowed this.

I grew up reading comic books. The CGI in the trailer looks 10 million times more “real” than any comic book I’ve ever read. As long as the story is good, my brain has the ability to immerse me even if the CGI is flawed.

Like it or not, here’s the reality:

“What’s our budget on this Inhuman’s series we’re planning?”

“Fifty million.”

“That’s not enough. The fans are screaming about the quality of the CGI in She-Hulk, and Inhumans is going to need way more CGI. We’re going to need $150 million to please these fans.”

“Yeah. Management will never approve that.”

“Of course not. Scratch Inhumans. We’ll do Dazzler instead.”

“Yep. Got it.”

In the real world, It’s not “Let’s just pull from this unlimited pile of money to make sure nobody has a problem with the most ambitious CGI character to ever appear on the small screen.”

Though Jennifer did slip a bit into the Uncanny Valley in the trailer - hairy, rougher, less human faces like Hulk and Thanos are probably easier to swallow - I'm thinking quite a few of those You Tube dislikes came from the same types who didn't care for Captain Marvel. The line about women always being angry and afraid wouldn't go down well with the He Man Women Haters that love to post online.
