The Amazing Spider-Man J Jonah Jameson in the Reboot

I honestly can't believe people act like they hate this series so much now. When Spiderman first came out, one of the favorites amongst fans was the portrayal of J Jonah Jameson, now he's too cartoony or goofy? C'mon now, if that wasn't JJ ripped straight out of the comics, I don't know what was
Err..I'm pretty sure everyone realized what it was from the beginning. I don't recall anyone saying they hated his portrayal. I personally enjoyed him in every film, but it's not going to stop me from calling it like it is; a glorified caricature.

I'll miss Simmons, but there's an opportunity here to go beyond what he did and still maintain his satirical nature.

So what exactly does that mean, "go beyond"? To what? A glorified caricature, isn't that exactly what he was in the comics Raimi used for inspiration?

JK was the perfect JJ. His portrayal is spot on to JJ from the comics. JJ is big, loud, and a giant character in the comics. He always has been. And i hope whoever pics up the role will treat it the same way.
JJ is constantly acting cheap and only thinking of himself, saying things like "You know me, all heart." "Or you are taking advantage of my good nature." Or JJ is whining that Peter's "Going to bleed me dry for these photos" "Rob him blind" when secretly he is thinking they are worth twice what he is paying.
When JJ gets super happy and excited, employees say his smile is creepy and makes them feel sick.
He is a big cartoon, and fans love him.
I don't want him toned down. Just give him more to do and maybe round out his character more.

Couldn't have said it any better!!

Someone that doesn't come off like a parody of himself? Jonah can still maintain his personality, but an actor depicting him like an actual "person" is already a start.

I guess we can agree to disagree, IMO Jonah comes off like that in the comics, at least from my childhood, and to tone it down or make him more "serious" is making it something else entirely

I was thinking the same thing. They should recast him. he was born to play the part

The guy from Avatar.... perfect J.Jonah Jameson.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it methinks.

If it's improvable, improve it me thinks.

J.K. Simmons was brilliant as a comedic relief. But Jameson is much more than that. Not even once was he other than a comedic relief and we never saw actually why did he hate Spiderman so much. And it's not just because he's a generic grumpy editor who hates everything. there's a whole story behind that.

In the movies he was never actually angry, like seriously. He was just loud-voiced and grumpy. By movie three the character was exhausted. Being just a comedic relief he lacked of any progression as he ahd no personal story; he was there to yell Parker, Photos, Miss Brant and such. More than the comics' Jameson he was just the 1967 cartoons Jameson.

Raimi's Jameson was merely the external facade, perfectly done, but there's a lot behind that that was never even touched.

J. K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson = best comic book casting ever (ok, ok--it'll be the last time I say that, I promise :o)

they kept M as dench though.
I think it's the other way around.

John C. McGinley (Scrubs)

JK Simmons was perfect. Yes, the character mainly served as comic relief but he could have brought a serious side to Jameson if he was written so.

When he fires Brock is a good example of this.

I agree. It's not Simmons' fault.

as much as I do like Simmons
(and wouldn't really mind him stay for the reboot)

but, another name, I might consider is, Alan Ruck ??

(just, give him a mustache, and he'll be all set)

stan lee

he knows the character backwards. give sam a proper role not a cameo.

Sorry, but I wouldn't be able to buy Stan Lee as Jonah at all.

J.K. Simmons for JJ.

Like it was said before, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it.

I say no to Simmons.

Did not like him as JJJ.

Get someone with actual hair, and who is more bitter/angry.

Most importantly, someone who actually looks a bit like JJJ would be nice. ;)
