The Amazing Spider-Man Things You Want To See In The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Also, the main complaint about this movie was "been there, done that," but since he won't be covering the origin in the next film, people won't have those complaints.

Err.. the general audience loves the film..

Yeah the numbers don't agree with you buddy.

The domestic figure does not suggest the general audience loves the film, it suggests they tolerated it.

Umm dude. A film doesn't have to break records or even beat its original to be considered a better film.... You really going to suggest pirates 4 or the transformer films are great films? Box office means zip in terms of quality

Uh.. no. The number suggests that the loved it also, or at least liked it, judging by how high they are for a film in general.

Not to mention the high audience score on several websites.

EDIT: Also, why the freak are people calling me buddy?

No it doesn't, you are correct in that regard. However SM is one of the highest grossing franchises ever and the mere fact that this film is having trouble breaking even (see other thread) suggests that word of mouth is not the best for this film. I mean TF2 is an absolute stinker of a film, yet the numbers for TF3 are huge! Yet another reason why I am not sure why this franchise was re-booted.

On a more relevant note, I think they are going to have huge problems introducing the GG or Dock Ock without having the same negative reaction of "Haven't we seen this before?". To have any hope of doing a Dark Knight, they will have to introduce a new villain IMO. Shocker or Electro could really surprise.

Word of mouth was horrible for SM3, yet it still made a lot of money..

Also, TF2 was received fairly well by the general audience.

Ghost Rider go horrible word of mouth and didn't do great in theaters; it got a sequel.

Among us nerds yeah, WOM was horrible. For the GA though, SM3 was well enough received.

The Ghost Rider is a perfect example of why we didn't need a re-boot.

Okay 'Just one more', you can prove that the word of mouth is bad by showing me a non-critic score aggregation site with a score under 60.

Ghost Rider wasn't rebooted. And SM3 had bad word of mouth with the general audience as well.

Uhh.. no. I remember that people around me thought Spider-Man 3 was horrible and they weren't comic book nerds.

And really, if SM3 WAS well received, then why does it have a viewer score of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes?

I mean seriously.. Transformers 2 has a score of 75% on RT, and if most people consider that to be crap, then what must SM3 be?

I know a lot of people in the GA that actually prefer SM3 over the first two movies. As bad as it was, its not the worst superhero movie we've ever seen. Let me just make a quick list of movies:

Batman and Robin
Green Lantern
Superman III
Superman IV
Supergirl
The Spirit
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Elektra
Judge Dredd
Barbed Wire
Catwoman
Captain America (1990)
The Punisher: War Zone

The list goes on.

You have the amazing comic book movies: Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, & the Avengers.
There are the good comic book movies: Spider-Man, Batman Begins, and Iron Man (hey, notice they are origin stories).
Then there are average comic book movies: Amazing Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, Incredible Hulk
There are bad comic book movies: Spider-Man 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic 4
and finally you have comic book movies that are just a pile of crap, as listed above.

Spider-man 1 did amazing because it was the heroes first time on a big screen and was right after 9/11 when the world needed a hero... Especially in New York

Um, no I cannot. I could make a few excuses as to why but I won't.

What I will say though is that if this movie was so wonderfully received by the general audience, why are the box office numbers so low?

Also, from my own personal little place in this world (which I know means next to nothing) I can say that I know about 4 people whom thought TASM was the bees knees but a whole lot more who thought it was rushed, needlessly dark and overall a lesser spectacle (and spider mans movies should be a spectacle) than Raimi's origin.

I do also accept though, that I am in the minority on these boards and that most people on here think Raimi's movies were crap.

Well, first of all the box office numbers aren't low, but I digress. They're 'low' because the film doesn't appeal to the main audience of the Raimi trilogy as much: children. That and any children that wanted to see the movie more than likely went to go see Ice Age which released a week later. That and it was generally too soon for a reboot.

But from the people that have seen it, the response is generally positive. I see a lot more comments on facebook and youtube talking about how good the movie was than how they disliked the movie. The viewer score on Rotten Tomatoes is at 81%, the viewer score on IMDb is at 7.6/10, the CinemaScore is an A-..

So far the audience loves the movie.

And I disagree with saying that Spider-Man films should be a spectacle. I just felt that it could have some more daytime scenes, but other than that I absolutely loved the film. (I also enjoy the Raimi trilogy)

Now that the origin is over with, and they created the grounds for this new universe, they can just make a good Spider-Man film. When people know they won't have to sit through the origin story again, they will probably want to see the sequel even more than they did for Amazing Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 1 is much better as a film on its own, but Amazing Spider-Man gave its franchise so much more potential than Raimi's movies. If the sequel to TASM is bad, then this was all for nothing. If Spider-Man 2 failed, then SM1 would have still been a great spider-man flick.

The purpose of this movie was to retain the film rights for Sony, and that's what it did. Now the sequel on the other hand should make a good $700 million or so...

Uhh.. Picard.. I'm not sure that according to the GA that TASM is only average. :/

Ok.... People need a reality check. This notion that Sony was about to lose the rights is completely false........ And even if there was an ounce of truth to it... The rights were already renewed with spider-man 4 being greenlit and script and principle cast was already complete. Sony was in no danger of losing their rights

Not to mention the general rumor is most marvel films have a 6 year window.... (at least nothing less than that) and theoretically Sony still could have waited to film asm next year and the rights would have been renewed in time for even a 2014 release.......

Big fan of ASM

I'm hoping for many things from the series. #1 hope being more than 3 films.

ASM2:
A lot of Norman Osborn, origin of Green Goblin
Another villain (Electro, Rhino, Vulture)
Intro: J. Jonah Jameson, Harry Osborn, Mary Jane Watson

ASM3
More Green Goblin
Death of Gwen Stacy, Near death of Green Goblin
Origin of Doc Ock

Venom?
if they insist... Eddie Brock as an uncontrollable antihero (i.e. the hulk)

ASM4
Venom villainy
another villain (Kraven/Mephisto)

ASM5
any unused villains mentioned previously (and/or Sandman, Scorpion, Shocker)

ASM: Sinister Six
Doc Ock leads Sinister Six
Spidey and Venom VS ALL

ASM7 OR Venom 2???
Spidey and Venom VS Carnage?
