Jack Black as GL? Why god...WHY?!

The question is why would Jack Black think he is even remotely perfect for the role??

I doubt he does. But WB approached him, and it would be the biggest starring role of his career, so it makes sense for him to go with it.

Wow, you guys seem to be having a BIG problem with this comedy Green Lantern idea... honestly, I can see how the idea lends itself to a great deak if comedy, kinda like a superhero Bruce Almighty...

Perhaps this will help your brain to process another perspective:
Question: Why would WB make a new epic summer blockbuster superhero franchise instead of a sequel to one of the THREE they already have coming? (Superman Returns, Wonder Woman and Batman Begins)

Well, one thing you can be sure of....
If that´s true, and Jack Black ends with the part, that´s what i call DEAD ON ARRIVAL.

And if that´s true, it just shows that WB is very eager to have a new Catwoman on their hands

Well, we have Batman, we have Superman, i don´t have any hopes for The Flash (until proved wrong), let´s wait and see about Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern.....the last we talk about it, the best.

Just checking...

instead? Who the hell is saying instead? They could do Wonder Woman, Batman 2, Superman 2, Flash, and Green Lantern. And if any of those should have comedic elements, it's Flash.

It has been a comedy on occasion. There are hundreds of Green Lanterns and some are pure comic relief.

oh is it, see i dont know much about lantern lol.

btw what is that in ur avy, looks cool!!

Jack, for the last time... DROP IT!! Leave GL alone.

Ok, last year or two years ago i myself was dead set against the idea.
But

recently Avi Arad announced that they're going to make Hulk 2 a remake, going over the origin story... again. If Marvel can do this (granted is a pretty horrible idea), why couldn't DC? Don't get me wrong, I love Kyle Rayner more then anything, and i would much rather have a serious movie then a comedy, but I don't know. I'm just not as adamant as I was last year. I think this idea has potential, as long as it doesn't rule out the possibility of making a serious Green Lantern movie down the line.

I had heard that Jack Black was being considered for the role of either Guy Gardner or Killowog. I am not sure if he would be the only star in the movie. I will admit that he did surprise a lot of people with his role in King Kong as film producer/director, Carl Denham, so don't think that he couldn't play a serious role. I just don't think he will be playing Hal Jordan or Kyle Rayner.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I think he'd be a good choice for Guy Gardner.

A zany Green Lantern movie starring Jack Black...I thought the idea was dead, and now here it is again...crushing the hopes and dreams of all GL fans.

I say without any danger of understatement that this could be the single, worst, darkest, and all around horrible idea in the history of superhero movies.

(besides the Superman muscial, if we can count that.)

I agree, but you can't have a Guy Gardner without a Hal Jordan type of character in the film. Guy has always had a chip on his sholder knowing that he has to play second fiddle behind Hal. The film needs that kind of controversy if you are going to have Guy in the film and I think that Black could play that type of role. I also think that he could play a good Killowog (or a Major Payne type of character) if they decide to go that route.

I read the AICN comment on that and it felt more like the poster READING THAT into Arad´s comment than him actually saying they were going to remake them. From Arad´s comment, I just felt that the sequel would be more in tune with the comics than the original movie. Maybe they will retcon it a bit, but it didn´t sound to me like a remake.

as the registered GL of the haturz league, i must speak out against this jack black thing

it is just so stupid.,..that it cant happen

berry as cino is different

that was before BB and SR

DC/WB must have learned something

they got whedon for WW
they sorta want RR for Flash

they aren't making that aqua man comedy

lets just relax and wait till more details appear.

I remember 2 years ago that there were rumors flying around about a comedic version of Green Lantern ala "The Mask" (which made over $300 million). If this film is a comedy, then it will be because Hollywood thinks that the trend is going that way. Let's see what happens next month when "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" releases. If moviegoers show that superhero comedies are a hit then they might go that route (which could certainly dissapoint a lot of adult comicbook fans). But if they don't bite, then hopefully the GL project might take a serious tone.

I'd rather them just not make a GL movie at all then have them make a wacky, zaney, Mask-esque movie. That's not what I want to see at all.

^ I agree...

This is one of the few times in which I can't think of enough negative adjectives...I doubt enough even exist to describe my feelings towards this...WB just can't be that stupid....they can't be....right?
right??
*whimper*

You know, I was having a really good day until I popped onto the Hype and read this. Now I feel like I've just been skullf**ked by Sgt. Hartman.

Can someone explain this to me? Seriously? I mean, WB and DC are finally making critically acclaimed projects like Batman Begins and (apparently, at least) Superman Returns... why would they want to revert back to the days of Bat-nipples and Halle-Cats with a Jack Black Green Lantern bomb? I will BOYCOTT THE HELL OUT OF THIS MOVIE should it be made, I swear to God.

^ What he said...but with more screaming, profanity, and cowbell...

Whewwww....I'm glad everybody else is as mad about this as
I am. I want to see Hal freakin' Jordan on screen for three films in which he finally goes crazy. Think of it, it could be as epic as Star Wars!!

Hmmmmm...Is it at all possible that Jack Black was approached WAAAAY before the Halle-Cat and the utter stupidity and waste of money which Son of the Mask, sequel of The Mask, the very same movie they were going to try and pattern Green Lantern after BOMBED so COMPLETELY at the box office.

I think EARLIER they approached him about it before both those types of movies became complete dog****. Now that Batman Begins has been practically universally acclaimed and made hella bucks on DVD and Superman Returns is poised to repeat this process...can you really see the The WB going off the track and getting Jack Black to star was one of the most spectacular superheroes that DC owns? If they played this franchise right they could have not only the NEXT Star Wars, but another SUPERMAN!

I hear good developement ideas on The Flash and WW. Those two as well as GL are the Freaking cornerstones of the DC Universe. Add that to the fact that Goyer was given the choice to do either GL or The Flash and he chose the flash MEANS that they're at this time actually looking at SERIOUS film makers to develope this project.

Taking all that into account how many feel that I'm wrong? :supes:

I can't see WB doing it..they'reasking for trouble.

Green Latern has a lot of potential to be badass....why ruin it?

I can't see how DC would let this happen. This is the wrong path to take and honestly, most actors dont' know what the hell is going on with a movie. Jack, God bless him, made the comment that they 'want to make it right'. To me, it tells me that there's something more to this report...that he would BE INVOLVED but not as the main guy..

Unfortunately, I doubt DC will have much say in the matter. All it takes is one or two, stupid, higher-ups at Warner Bros. and then the movie's in the works. Remember, "Catwoman" ended up like it did because NO ONE from DC or the comic book profession had anything to do with it. It was all the studio. Warners owns DC, so they can pretty much run with any ill-conceived, stupid, and flat-out bad idea that they want to.
