Jack Black as GL? Why god...WHY?!

Jack Black might not be that bad of a GL.. you know.. if he lost weight he might be able to do it... its almost as if everyone is basing there assumptions on a stupid type-casting.. look at Robin Williams in "Final Cut" or "Insomnia" everyone thought he would suck as a dramatic actor.. and the movies turn out fine.. besides, Jackie boy did show us a little Drama in King Kong.. Maybe he could do it..

If Jack Black can lose the weight and buff up, I think he'll be exceptional.

Even though there's that slim possiblity that Black could do the role (as per the previous couple of posts...I mean, it is possible he could develop some drama skills) but let's face it...he wouldn't be considered due to his potential...if a studio wants him, it's because they want him to be funny.

Who even cares if Jack Black gets some drama skills. Let him play Thor or something. I don't want the movie I have been waiting for forever ruined. Green Lantern the action adventure sci fi movie is what I want to see. Not Green Lantern the family comedy. I have noticed something about family comedys, they suck and are lame.

The creator of Green Lantern based his appearance off of Paul Newman...last time I checked Jack Black didnt look anything like paul newman, nor did he have his acting ability.

He may have been modeled after Mr. Neuman but he certainly is not drawn that way nowadays. Face it guys, having comedy in a film can make it a hit (look at "Pirates of the Caribean" compared to "Superman Returns") and Jack Black is not that bad of an actor (although I wouldn't equate him to Jonny Depp, who could probably play any Green Lantern he wanted).

Based on his performances in films like "Shalow Hal", "School of Rock" and "King Kong", Black could certainly play a serious role and inject a little comedy into it. And you never know, if the screenplay is written well and is family friendly (this is important) it could still turn out to be a hit.

It would be great if there were two GL's
Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner.
Hal is the serious one, whereas Guy, played by jack black, is the funny guy.
Has anyone seen him in Mars Attacks!? He really isn't that big a guy and his hair cut is exactly the same as Guy's.

Last i heard, he was rumored for the role of Green Lantern. Has he been cast yet? I kinda see him...

You "kinda see him"??!!!!!!!!! A fat-a** comedian put in a Green Lantern costume to make fun of one of the greatest superheroes of all time.?! F**k that sh**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cmad: I throw a :bomb: at this forum!

I truly believe if they don't follow the path of Superman Returns and Batman Begins and actually take GL seriously then I believe that it will be a bomb with fans and the casual movie goer. I could see Jack Black playing someone like Tom the airplane mechanic or something.

POTC didn't bomb. I don't see how you could say that.

I like the idea of a chubby nobody guy becoming GL. The idea behind GL is that anybody can become him be it a military guy or a local pizza boy... I think...

is this correct?

I could possibly see Jack Black as one superhero...

D-Man.

That's it.

I'm sorry, my computer froze, then posted like 8 times, please forgive me

Not really. While there are Lanterns of all shapes and sizes, the Guardians still have standards. They tend to pick competant, brave people who could live up to the job. One of the only times they just blindly picked some one was Kyle Rayner, and he was still a badass. Something tells me they wouldn't choose the character that is portrayed in the script for a job that requires you to be a fearless, selfless hero.

Look here for part 1 and here for part 2. I found it to be pretty good and worth watching.

I like Jables but Green Lantern shouldn't be a comedy and I don't think he can do anything serious.
