The suspicious nature of a hydro, molten and sand man leads me to think that mysterio is putting on a show.

He’s pretending to be the hero while doing something else. Maybe he’s just there to distract the actual crimes ( men with guns)


Not to mention that Parker's friends seem to admire Mysterio.

Who would admire a villain causing havok? Mysterio is fighting a hydro-man(likely an illusion) and trying to hog the spotlight.

Spider-man intervenes and this irritates Mysterio because someone else is taking all his attention

I'll be curious how his illusions actually work. It looks like they actually cause physical damage. I can't imagine his tech is sophisticated that it can outsmart the sensors on Spider-man's suit that would tell him it's fake.

Well, note, Peter is not Tony Stark, and the "ordinary" spider suit isn't exactly the Bleeding Edge armor. I find it entirely believable that a tech genius whose specialty is illusions and deceptions would be able to fool such.

Two extra advantages that Mysterio would have:

1. His cover ID is "a wizard fighting magical creatures". This would give a useful excuse for nearby sensors to conk out or give weird results, without immediately being interpreted as "fake" or "ECM" or whatnot.

2. If he's anything like the comics, he's not *only* dealing in illusions of the holographic variety. There should be an underbody of robotics and physical effects and just plain real tech gadgets. These would add reality to the illusion.

That does make sense. As soon as it becomes apparent that a villain is doing bad things you’d expect bystanders to stop cheering for them, whether cool-looking or not.

Hmm... Kinda wondering now about the fallout of AIW/AEG. I myself do not believe that the MCU is going to remain "Snapped". I think there's going to be some element of altering the timeline involved with stopping Thanos.

That said... It's interesting to think that Mysterio might use "magic" as a cover for his illusions. And, well, Peter did meet a real "wizard" in Doctor Strange. Putting aside the science/magic divide, it would be interesting to see how Peter reacts to people thinking this guy is a legit magician. If Spidey ends up retaining for whatever reason, memory of meeting and working alongside Strange I hope he would be able to suss out early that Mysterio isn't at all like Strange.

Eh, he's met one wizard, for a fairly brief amount of time overall. I doubt that would let him definitively say that this other guy isn't also a wizard. Its not like every wizard has to be the same.
