Far From Home Jake Gyllenhaal is...Mysterio?

I wanted to drop MCU after the end of phase 3, what a way to keep me attached for a while longer.
All the positive reception for this character is awesome.

The character must really have some depth or some meat to it for Jake to agree, considering he rarely does these types of flicks anymore.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It may not be broke, but its not like 616 Mysterio's costume set the world on fire in terms of great villain costume design, its not iconic the way the way Dr. Doom or Joker have an iconic look, I think there is room for improvement.

Though rather then trying to make it more practical, I would change Mysterio's costume be look more theatrical and creepy.

I love having an A-list star play a D-list villain

you go get 'em Jake

How do I post a freaking image wth
image link from sites that allow hotlinking, or comic book movie dot com

Replace every '<' and '>' with '[' and ']'.
Also, make sure that the image you post does not contain foul language.

No fixing. Just translating.

Wouldn't be too hard to translate, imo. This isn't like taking an old guy in long-johns and needing to do a complete overhaul. It's taking an egocentric and theatrical character and modernizing it a bit.

Mysterio isn't D-list. If a villain is a member of the original Sinister Six, then that means that they're big time. At best he's B-list.

To Joe Average anyone that isn't Green Goblin, Venom or Doc Ock is unknown.

Nah Carnage is still D-list. If you showed Joe Public a picture of Carnage they would think it’s either a effed up Spider-Man or Venom. They wouldn’t be able to name the character.

I've haven't seen Nightcrawler, I will have to check it out but wow this is going to be nice for Jake. Phase 4 should start with a bang.

Once you watch it, you’ll see the direct connection to Mysterio.

Thing is, even average joes like to overhype Carnage like he's one of the greatest things since sliced bread. And I guarantee the majority that do like him more for his concept than actual character. People do love crazy SOBs.

It's gotten to where some people act like symbiotes are the end all and be all of Spidey's rogue gallery and none of his other foes matter. I remember people so were adamant that Carnage would be in Spider-man 4. Considering the way Raimi handled Venom in Spider-man 3, I have to wonder what gave them the idea that he would have treated Carnage any better.

The best part of Mysterio being the/a villain are the debates on what version of Mysterio we should get.

Jake Gyllenhaal is an AMAZING actor. Can't wait!

Mysterio being d-list does not matter at all. The MCU has already used d-list villains.

His classic outfit is technically a one piece with a cape and fishbowl though. Might be tough to fit in what is already established. His motives, background, etc? That’ll for sure get modernized. I just wouldn’t count on getting a direct adaptation of that outfit. Couldn’t click your link btw. It’s dead

This is pretty inspired. I mean talk about overqualified but in the best possible way. I love Mysterio and it's odd of all things Gyllenhaal chose this particular out of all the offers he's been given. He'll probably really elevate this role and sees something he can really bring to it, as he usually does. I'm excited.

This is what I think they’ll go for in terms of aesthetic. Of course, minus the leather jacket, t-shirt, colors and lights, etc. Just the overall feel and designs.

The Vulture and the MCU usually has real world-y influences. And Watts has said before that he likes there to be a reason for certai design choices. Why does Vulture have fur/a jacket? Why does he need wings? Will he need a helmet for certain altitudes, etc.

This is perfect. I'm so happy about this.

I think this is what they meant by a villain/actor with "elevated" ideas. I feel that out of everyone in Spidey's rogue gallery, Mysterio is different in the sense that yes, he's theatrical, but he's obsessed with theatrics which brings his psyche to that level of "weird" and I think Gyllenhaal can portray that perfectly if you've seen NIGHTCRAWLER.

Aloha,
He can play Mysterio. I'm sure this is going to be part Spidey and part Dr. Strange in the presentation.
Mysterio can and has messed with Spidey's mind Big Time.
Can't wait for this one.
