James Bond: 007 - Spectre - Part 5

Craig's Bond seems to be rebelling against the who upper class type thing. Casino Royale Martini moment when he said 'do I look like a give a damn?' kind of summed him up.

He is happy to slum it drinking shots in south east Asian dive bars while his ancestral home rots and his Aston Martin collects dust.

I don't think he cares for the finer things of life

Craig's Bond has this internal loathing of his background stemming from his childhood trauma.

Either go back to classic Bond or invent something new with the next actor

I try again, and hope for response this time :)
I don't think the Craig films have taken away his womanizer aspect at all. They just treat it with grim realism, especially in Quantum of Solace where M points out that the way Bond casually uses women often gets them hurt and killed. In the older films it was shown as a charming quirk but in the modern era it's shown to be more of an aspect of Bond's cold and manipulative nature.
Kind of, yeah. Remember, even Connery's Bond used his connoisseur skills to save him during a mission (FRWL). I just want them to be careful to remember Bond is not just an awesome sociopath, but he's a gentleman spy as well.
JRM could have all these traits and develop it even more.
Craig has many strenghts as Bond, but his only weakness is his lack of elegance compared to (most of) the others. JRM may bring some of it back.

Was Dalton the least gentleman esque of every Bond? What would you say?
I have a quite young suggestion who will reach his early 30s before Craig leaves. The guy reminds me of Dalton but with a more smooth touch .

Dan Stevens.

I second this.

Still hoping for Cavill, though him playing Superman will probably keep it from happening.

Would love to see his old audition tape though. Supposedly the Broccolis wanted him for the role.

Cavill also has Napoleon Solo in The Man From Uncle which if proves popular could be a spy franchise for him in the long term

I think that is a complete misinterpretation of those scenes. First, that scene in Casino Royale comes on the heels of Bond ordering his own custom martini earlier in the film. The "do I look like I give a damn" line is not meant to be a statement on Bond's general appetites, but a show of emotion, that he is human, and that in that moment, he just needs a drink and doesn't care what it is. Fleming's Bond was as fond of slumming it as he was of drinking and eating at 5 star restaurants. No matter, once again, Bond's slumming it in Turkey was not an indication of his character, but rather an indication that he was not himself, which is why he is also unshaven and poorly dressed in those scenes. Once Bond gets his groove back, all of those traits go away.

Schlosser, I wouldn't say that it is internal loathing of his background, but rather typical British upper class inverted snobbery. The British gentry and nobility have always been loathe to flashy displays of wealth and the like. That is why the literary Bond sneers at Hugo Drax and Count Lippe in their flashy suits or Blofeld's obsession with becoming a Count in OHMSS. British aristocrats are well-known for wearing the finest Savile Row suits until threadbaren and frayed. That is why suit or sport jackets with elbow patches are associated with English style here in North America. It is also why the literary Bond drives a supercharged Bentley convertible but has it painted matte battleship grey and has the ostentatious hood ornament removed. The state of Skyfall Manor perfectly accords with that attitude.

Nope. Martin Campbell wanted Cavill and campaigned for him. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were set on Craig from the start.

I'd still like to see Fassbender as Bond, but that's just me.

I think Fassbender is by far the best possibility for a new Bond. He would be the spitting image of Fleming's Bond if he had black hair and cheek scar. He is also the same height and build as the literary Bond and can speak the same languages. X-Men: First Class and Inglorious Basterds are like the ultimate Bond audition. My only concern is his age. By the time Craig finishes, Fassbender will already be in his 40s. However, with the way people are physically aging slower this days, he could still have a healthy run into his early 50s.

Absolutely agreed! Fassy I think would be a good choice for another 5-10 years, dude looks, at worst, late 30s, imo.

Does the typical version of Bond(a suave, sophisticated, womanizer who's always making jokes) have anything at all in common with Fleming's Bond other than being a British spy?

Yeah, let's try to get someone who does't already have a pop culture role under their belt to play Bond... after Craig.

Magneto, Superman, and Froto don't also need to be 007.

Of course. Refer to Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig for his general character. Dalton was famous for playing it 100% Ian Fleming based rather than trying to imitate Connery or Moore.

Book Bond gets laid, a lot. ***** Galore was a lesbian until she encountered Bond's magic penis.

Question: does anyone knows of an article that discusses the best Bond film from each actor's tenure and how all of them was a love story? I knew that I've read of it but forgot what site is it from or if it was even posted in here.

Did you not ask this exact same question on the last page and did not a bunch of us provide replies?

But it would be awesome if they were all in the next James bond movie :D

Bond searches for a ring that Frodo must destroy. The ring has a metal band with a piece of kryptonite in the center

He could, and on the flip side play Blofeld as he was in Fleming's You Only Live Twice, if he went Bronson/Bane mode.
