James Bond: 007 - Spectre - Part 5

I'm not worried either. This sort of thing happens much more often than people seem to think, even to films that end up being pretty damn great. This scenario is only unique because of the hack that gave us insider information we wouldn't have otherwise been privy to. We also have to keep in mind that the script that leaked is NOT the same one used for filming. As has been suggested elsewhere, there were some pretty large changes made to improve the story... we just don't know what those were. It's also not really fair to judge something that is not the finished product. Right now what we're all doing is akin to forming a negative opinion of an oil painting based only a rough preliminary pencil sketch. I think we should all just relax and wait until we can judge the completed film once it's released. Besides, there's really no point getting worked up about all this anyway. It's not like anything we say or do is going to have any impact on what kind of film SPECTRE ends up being.

One problem I have with the spoilers is it feels like the same idea they used for all of Craig's Bonds. The rebirth of Bond as the man we know and reiterating his and MI6 importance to the world. At some point that needs to stop.

Exactly, the last 3 films have all been about set-up, it's time they finaly move on, and if they still want to use that ending, then they should wait a bit, you can't move to the final chapter so quickly, especialy since the past films have all been beginnings, where's the middle chapter?

Well, the negative reception of these ideas is just something more to prove the studios how much those ideas realy needed to be changed, i'm sure it can cause some impact, let's just hope they don't change things for the worse.

I've always enjoyed M being annoyed at Bond because he messes up or doesn't follow orders.

I always liked when M would threaten to replace 007 with agent 008 on a mission.

Why are they trying to pull a Khan with Blofeld? We know that's who it is, they aren't fooling anyone. If you want to surprise me with a twist, have Blofeld turn out to be someone who is actually a good guy.

I watched Skyfall yesterday and it just gets better with each viewing. Mendes's commentary is wonderful too. The man gets Bond and he's a great storyteller to boot.

The little things such as in the opening credits sequence where at the end, you see Bond's face in the crack in the wall signifies when Bond was a boy peaking through that is mentioned by Kincaid later in the movie. Just wonderful thematics driven by character.

God, I hope Spectre does the same in its own way.

Of course, the response to these leaks match with those reports we heard earlier in the year, so I'm not surprised they changed, as do all first drafts. The question is what exactly did they choose to change and better and were those things that people didn't like here were those things that changed?

It's just strange that Logan, who wrote Skyfall, was responsible for this less than received draft. Unless Mendes has a great eye for writing (as most great directors do) with Skyfall and this to have enough insight to make a script better.

What we have to learn is that the truth in pre-production is never truly revealed and is either covered up, simplified or dressed up to look better. And people cherry pick with what to say on who had what ideas and the quality of them. The extent of details are never known. Script writing on Skyfall could have been a similar process. Interesting, the commentary takes a different personality now.

I think Logan was given free reign to basically pitch their idea. He was probably told to go nuts. It was always going to go through revisions.

The common link between Le Chiffre, Green, Silva and the deaths of Vesper and M are all tied to Franz Oberhauser (acting under the alias of Blofeld) who created SPECTRE as a means to enact revenge against James Bond because he grew up believing that his own father preferred James to himself, creating a never-ending hatred towards Bond. He dedicates himself to making sure James never has a life because he feels he was deprived of one and plans to publicly disgrace Bond by framing him for his father's murder. However, over the course of running SPECTRE, Oberhauser has now become addicted to the strength and power his organization has given him. SPECTRE has been manipulating political strings, only communicating through telephones and delivering political favors of any nature to the heads of different countries (extortion, assassinations, ect) in exchange for more power.

Felix Leiter is in the film in a small, cameo-esque role.

- The leak in MI6 is revealed to have come (mistakenly) from Tanner. Bond, as a favor, allows him to commit suicide rather than be publicly humiliated.

- Yes, there is a cat.

- Mr. White is in the film and is revealed to be a high ranking member of SPECTRE who was personally overseeing the operations into destroying Bond.

- Bond and M have several meetings. One in the beginning of the film where M chews Bond out and humiliates him in front of a lot of MI6 agents as well as later in the film after the MI6 leak in the middle of the night in a cemetary.

- Q gets abducted by SPECTRE and is tortured for Bond's location. He also has a very classic introductory scene in the film.

- There is a very classic feeling fist/gun fight aboard a train between Bond and Hinx.

- Bond/Moneypenny during their detective work in Tagiers find a photograph of Vesper and Blofeld/Oberhauser together.

- MI5 is trying to merge with and take over MI6.

- The film ends with Blofeld/Oberhauser dead and Bond wounded. In the hospital, Moneypenny tells him now that all of the prior events (of the Craig saga) are a closed book, perhaps he should finally "get a life". The final scene is Bond tossing his pistol into a river and driving off, seemingly retired.

This is going to make us see the previous Craig films in a whole new light.

There has been a more recent update to those spoilers, they are as follows;

All this is according to a recent draft of the script so might have changed, might have not.

- M is antagonistic towards Bond because a subplot of the film involves MI5 merging with MI6 and Andrew Scott's character (the head of MI5) trying to oust M from his position. His anger towards Bond comes from the beginning of the film (our pre-title sequence) which shows Bond on an operation in Mexico City in which he ****s up and somehow gets a nice sized portion of the city destroyed. By his hand or a villains its unknown at this time.
- Tanner being the mole and committing suicide plot device has been eliminated by this most recent leaked draft as they mention another mole by name who is someone other than Tanner. This character, the new mole, has already been officially revealed as part of the cast.
- Mr. White's return isn't a big role, its supporting and probably equal to about half of his screentime in Royale. Although he is revealed to be a high ranking member in SPECTRE, his role in the film is minimal.
- As of this draft of the script, Felix Leiter and his CIA partner are not mentioned and may have been eliminated from the script, simply due to too many subplots and a bloating of too many Bond allies.
- The character and henchman of Blofeld, Irma Bunt, has been completely cut from the script.
- I honestly have no idea what official name they are going with for Waltz. I'm guessing Stockmann is cut due to the mention of Oberhauser in press stuff but it's 100% clear he is Blofeld due to all of the Sony execs name-dropping that character constantly in back-and-forth emails but who knows which whether the name Oberhauser or Blofeld is actually the alias the character is going by.
