Apparently as long as the character started out as white you can change them any which way you want because their the only type that are not defined by anything unlike characters of any other color.
That's never been the argument, that's only what someone who doesn't understand the context would say.
Look, for example: Superman is an alien, his skin color can be anything. Spider-Man is from New York, his skin color can be anything. Captain America is a test subject of the American military, he is either American or African American. James Bond is british, not American. Mad Max is an Australian.
To be British or Australian, it can mean a variety of things. Luke Cage and Shaft represent blue collar black men living under white supremecy, you can't do that with a white man. Black Panther is the King of an Arican Nation which has been secluded from the outside world, they're all Africans there.
