Bond is a Universe though where they can come up with a new 00 agent & if popular enough spin him off. Why change Bond specifically just because they can ?

I agree. How about a black actor playing Felix Leiter again. You can do a spin off of that. He was an American spy who would help Bond on missions someetimes and is known to Bond fans. Just make him popular to the GA in the Bond films and do a spinoff.

welcome btw :)

isnt that like jeffrey's leiter in CR and QoS ?

Yes but the difference being he is an American spy and his name is Felix Leiter. Jeffrey Wright was Clearance Leiter and he was a british spy. But he was based off Felix Leiter.

i cant tell if you being serious or really start trolling with your 3rd post

Wright was actually the second black Leiter. Bernie Casey played him in Never Say Never Again.

I made a mistake. I was reading off google about Felix Leiter's history in the Bond universe and thought Jeffrey Wright played a character based off Felix Leiter. I was reading something wrong, sorry for the confusion.

Elba or any other black actor or actor of a minority race can play the main villain of a Bond film or a henchman. Similar to Red Grant or TMWTGG.

Only took me 6 years, after they discounted them... to get a whole collection.

I have the same editions. I also had a hell of a time trying to track down the last few books myself.

I was casually watching License to Kill and the plane hijacking scene from TDKR is straight out of this movie.

It was nice to see Pedro Armendariz jr again.

I'm beyond excited for SPECTRE.

I could care less about Idris Elba's skin color. The issue I have with him as Bond is that as an actor, he tends to be very hit or miss in his performances.

Fassbender, ugh, its just so obvious a casting. There's not much imagination required in making that call. It's like Clive Owen several years ago. Craig was an exciting choice in part because he was not the obvious one, and because he brought something truly unique to the character. That's what they should be looking at when they cast the next one.

Frankly though, I want James Bond, Jr. in some capacity next time around.

Aaron Paul!

Bond should like other men because his sexuality doesn't matter.
I know you're trying (and failing) to troll, but I have to say that I actually wouldn't mind a gay Bond or a female spin on the character. I'd actually be very interested in watching that.

And this is coming from a lifelong fan of the franchise. Hell, I was literally named after the character and one of his actors/avatars.

I hate to be that guy, but it's I couldn't care less. I'm sorry that really just irks me when I see that LOL

I think I'd be fine with Idris Elba as Bond as long as it isn't a stunt and "he's black" wasn't among the casting criteria. If his skin color is an incidental trait like Craig's blonde hair or Brosnan being Irish and Lazenby being Australian, go for it. But I'm not interested in a movie that asks the question "what if a popular white character was instead black?".

As much as i like ELba as an actor , i just wouldn't want him or for that matter any other non-white actor playing the role of Bond.
And this is coming from someone who Indian descent. Hell if they want a non-white actor for Bond , why should it be a black actor. Why don't we choose an Indian actor or a korean actor or a japanese actor.
Or even a woman.....

Bond always has been played by a white actor and i say keep it that way. QoS has alot of stuff working against it however Casino Royale and especially Skyfall were movies were they really had a solid story and excellent acting performances. Focus on those things.

As for Elba as a Bond. I say just go on a create a brand new spy franchise with him in the lead. Have the balls to do that. If SOny can pump millions into After Earth and White House Down i'm sure they at least have some money to do this. The first Bourne movie was made for 60 million or so and supramacy for 75 million.

Elba deserves more than to be known as 'the black James Bond'.

Is Spectre Daniel Craig's last turn as the character?

If they want to use Elba can't they kill off James Bond and have Elba replace him as an equally badass spy (009 or something), who in turn gets killed off when his deal is done say 4 films later, to be replaced by a new James Bond.

If it was as simple as 'Elba auditioned and nailed it as a hard as nails, yet educated upper class brit assassin' (as an example) then so be it.

If he was chosen simply because the fact he was black won it for him, then that's crazy - as in my mind it states they are looking at this all wrong.

Thing is, the history of Bond to those that know more than the general movie goer is open to interpretation - a scottish father and a swiss mother. Orphaned at 11, educated globally in various fields. Joins the civil service and so on.

It wouldn't be too hard to picture Elba as Bond, but it would change the dynamics of his heritage and upbringing - but that would probably never be mentioned, just assumed.

If Elba got the role, it would't effect me in the sense i would still be a fan of the series.
