Its coming from Naomi Harris. Shes the one that brought this up in an interview that Elba had worked with Barbara which he has and is probably a shoe in for it. And then Elba has said he would do it if asked. Its reportable but they have to keep this in context. Its wishful thinking until paper work is drawn up so to report it as they are is misleading.

99% sure he doesnt smoke a pipe - I cant remember his background now (2 weeks brain rust), it is mentioned though

They will start eyeing replacements long before that. Waiting til the last minute is bad planning. They will most likely put a list together of hopeful replacements which as weve recently found out they already have and it seems to include Fassbender and Elba among others. When it comes time to actually cast one of them they will look to see which ones have the schedule open for the gig.

Connery's Bond outdoes Goldfinger in golf.

Moore's Bond outdoes Drax at shooting (terrible movie, good scene).

Brosnan's Bond outdoes Graves (terrible movie, but a great scene, like some of Bond's Cuba stuff)

And if you count NSNA, Connery outdoes Largo at cheesy 1980s video games!

So, there is a precedent.

Indeed, they do not need another Brosnan/Craig transfer. While it was ultimately successful, they kept Brosnan on standby thinking he'd be doing a fifth Bond until the 11th hour when they got Craig and then that created a backlash in the press. Sure, Craig ended up being awesome and it didn't matter, but smoother transitions like Moore to Dalton and Dalton to Brosnan are preferable. Especially since Craig is even more loved in the role. The easier the transfer the better.

As was discussed last night it has nothing to do with racism. Bond is white and should remain white just like Blade should remain black, Spock should remain white, and Sulu should remain asian.

If they did cast Elba id be ok with it since he is a very good actor, but i prefer when characters do not change ethnicity. Goes for all characters and all ethnicities.

Again, not wanting the race of a long established character with character traits rooted in family history and ethnicity to be changed is not racist.

I personally don't see the problem if actor can do a character justice then skin color shouldn't matter. Sometimes changes can work, Nick Fury becoming black for example. Anothe example could be Micheal Clark Duncan as King Pin in daredevil. But that's just me, I am not calling everyone a racist but some people do have that attitude ( but try to hide it). Anyway, I been a bond fan since I first played the n64 goldeneye game ( and then watched most of the movies). I am just not a person that's not caught up in comics or fanboy stuff having to always follow a guideline and never take risks or modernize things etc.

I must admit that I don't see Bond as necessarily white. To be honest, I have less problem with a black British actor playing him, than with a non-Brit playing him.

I wonder what British people think of this, they seem to have less problem with "race" than Americans.
But again, it won't happen anytime soon.

I dont understand why its considered "modern" or "hip" to change things that dont need to be changed all for sake of inclusion as if casting a black man to play Bond or any other role will somehow erase hundreds of years of slavery. Im truly sorry our american ancestors were ***** and racists slavers but my guilt over that isnt going to influence my casting preferences or make me prefer a black actor because to not do so would somehow makes me a racist.

Im not gonna be anti black bond but i dont see the point of going that route when bond is clearly white and there are plenty of great white actors to do the part. If you want a black spy then create a great black spy character. Give them a character that is wholly theirs. Itd be like casting a white actor to play Blade. Not that it cant be done but why do it when there are black actors who can play the part?
