The thing that makes the film so popular is that it appeals to all demographics, women, men, adult or child, they all seem to love the movie because it has something for everyone.

I can understand people not liking it, it is flawed and story-wise nothing special, but it is a simply story that anyone can relate too, the fact that is has made almost $1 billion more than Titanic confirms this, as do record breaking DVD/BD sales.

Agreed. And honestly, the 3D in theatres was more then worth my twelve bucks or however much it cost. Was the movie that good story line wise? No, nothing special. But the 3D was amazing to watch. One of those things you definitely have to see in theatres.

Yeah, I agree that the picture quality was mind blowing. You don't even care that it's not in 3D, plus the sound was better too. I was hearing all sorts of critters I had missed in the theater. It was amazing.

I just watched the DVD as well to compare it with the blu-ray. It's still good but the difference is pretty big! Lot of detail lost & doesn't look anywhere near as pretty lol. Didn't have my sound system hooked up at the time, so will have to check that out.

I can give you info on whay is the difference but its better if you go to a bestbuy or a Sony style store and see it for yourself

I gotta agree with this. Cameron knows how to make a film that will appeal to the masses. He had a simple story which people can understand and that will allow them to enjoy the alien characters and environment.

In the sequel he should be able to go all out with the story seeing as people have accepted and likened to Avatar.

He makes engaging characters, that are easy to relate to, always has, always will, people say he doesnt right good dialogue, but his characters are never the type to come out with useful observations about life, they are mostly marines, secret agents or simple working class people.

I greatly enjoyed the 3D experience, but I also liked the blu-ray version. Both for different reasons...for the theater it was the 3D experience and on blu-ray I could enjoy the movie for the movie itself.

I agree, 3D was awesome but the way the colors show up on the BR is just amazing and it ends up being two toataly different viewing experiences.

I have a question about Quartich line "You're not in Kansas anymore" and some commentaries on this thread. Some find it cliché or lame, so I was wondering if it was an American saying and if it is the case what does it means ?

As far as I am concerned I translated it as "you are now on another planet so pay attention".

It's a paraphrasing of one of the most famous movie quotes of all time. In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy says to her dog, "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more."

Statements like "I don't think we're in Kansas any more" have since become synonymous with characters suddenly finding themselves well out of their area or comfort zone.

Example: In The Matrix, Cypher says to Neo, "It means fasten your seat belt Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye."

People are criticising Quaritch's line citing it's overuse.

Definately, I like the film on blu-ray, but it doesnt compare to the 3D experience.

For me it is actually the opposite. 3D hurts my eyes, but Avatar on BD has the most amazing transfer I've ever seen, I watched ten minutes of it and I finally understood the beauty of Pandora. I'm still not a fan of the movie, but I can sit back and stare dumbfounded at the majestic visuals.
