One thing I never got about this scene, is that Quatrich picks Jake up by his pony-tail, then holds a knife to Jake's throat, and Jake just lets him, why doesnt he, you know, use them 2 big friggin arms attached to his body!

The only real mistake I spotted in the movie.

Because the Na'vi pont tail is sensible, it is their weak spot. If Jake wasn't holding on the AMP arm he would be parted from his pony tail.

Sorry, but if that was the case, Jake's would have ripped off by the Ikran or horse things long ago, the ponytails never looked so frail that they could be ripped off that easily, especially on Jake's and The Ikran's first flight were he was being tossed everywere.

Jake could have moved at least one of his arms to swipe the blade away from Quaritch's hand.

The bond is not the same thing as being held by the tail and I didn't said it looked frail but it was sensible, also Jake wasn't at the top of his strenght. Anyway, that is my view of the matter.

Jake could have moved at least one of his arms to swipe the blade away from Quaritch's hand.

He could have done a lot of things but the scenario said otherwise ie Neytiri saved her Jake :)

He was strong enough that he could move his arms, so why couldnt he move his arm to take the knife away from Quaritch?

Well my question is, why didnt he do these things, it was the only silly moment of the movie for me but it was quite silly.

^

I can't say more than I already did, he was weakened ( air leak ), being hung by the hair isn't plaisant and it is a sensible area ( my PoV ) AND Neytiri had to save him. That's why he did nothing ( at least for me ).

You want another silly moment ? The link between the pilote coffin and the avatar is 10 Km but Jake was able to move farther than that.

Well, for me, if he could move his arms up to grab the mech's hand he can move them to swipe the knife away.

To be fair though, this was never stated in the movie.

True, I read it in the Survival Guide and I thought it was a sloppy info from the book writers because it was proved false in the movie.

Still about the knife "issue" : even if I watched the DvD 10 times if not more I don't remember, was the knife within Avatar Jake grasp ?

PS : I understand your PoV but it is a detail for me since I really like the fact that Neytiri saved Jake.

Is there any mode in there that's supposed to work with the Real D glasses? I suspect it's the alpha modes, but they don't seem to work for me.

Eh. Looked at it for a while and maybe it's working, and it's just too subtle an effect for me to notice it unambiguously.

for the Real D glasses you need a real 3D monitor.

Yeah, if it aint in the movie it cant really be considered canon, things change from the script stage let alone the book, interesting tidbit though.

Quaritch was holding the knife to Jake's neck, so it was definately within his reach, I had no problem with Neytiri saving Jake, and their following scene was possibly the best of the movie, but it seemed silly her saving him when it was a lot easier for him to save himself.

If Quaritch had the knife to Jake's neck then there was nothing he could do. If Jake, in his weakened state, tried to reach for it, Quaritch would just open his throat right then and there. But I'm guessing Quaritch wanted to savor the moment so he let him dangle in pain for a bit, leaving himself open to an attack from Neytiri.

I believe the extended version is gonna be rereleased somewhere in august or september

Is there still talk about rereleasing the movie in theatres?

Yes, they are rereleaseing the extended version in limited theaters and IMAX during the fall. Then they will release the extended version on bluray right after with all the extras and deleted scenes.

Doneytiri McTsu-'tey.

The power of Avatar:

Demonstrating the amazing strength of a single movie, 20th Century Fox said on Tuesday that it had passed $2 billion in ticket sales at the overseas box office for 2010, with $1.4 billion — or 70 percent — attributed to Avatar. Since it opened in December the film has earned $1.99 billion at the foreign box office. Also contributing to its record receipts abroad, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel brought in $152.5 million and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief collected $138 million. »

Quatrich pulled the knife out of the APC and slowly moved it Jake's neck, Jake had plenty of time to swipe it away, not to mention his hands were almost as close to his neck when Quaritch was holding the knife there, he had more than enough chance to remove the knife from Quaritch's hand.

Absolutely cannot wait for that, really want to see the extended scene's as I cant imagine them doing anything but improve an already great movie, Cameron's deleted scene's tend to be golden.

^Cameron has always been a perfectionist, right down to the little details in all of his movies, its why he has a reputation for being hard to work with because he wont stop changing shots, etc until they are perfect in his minds eye.

Its one of the reasons his movies are so great IMO, because unlike a Ratner or McG, he makes sure everything is perfect before the movie is released.
Maybe he put more effort into perfecting his scripts.

well its now official, the re-release will be on August 27th

20th Century Fox has announced that James Cameron's Avatar will be re-released into Digital 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on August 27 with over 8 minutes of never before seen footage!

"Since - and largely as of result of - Avatar's release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D, as well as fans that want to return to Pandora again, will now have that opportunity," the studio said.

The Oscar and Golden Globe winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time.

Visit Avatarmovie.com/Re-ReleaseDates for international release dates.

pretty much...akin it to someone putting a super death grip on your junk.

The natural reaction would be to hold on to em' and make sure they aren't ripped off. :o

I hope we get more than 8 minutes on the next blu-ray, otherwise I wont be buying it, I expect at least 20 mins.
