Cameron said that 6 minutes were added but we will get more deleted scenes in the DvD/BR bonus I guess.

"...and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D, as well as fans that want to return to Pandora again, will now have that opportunity."

What kind of excuse is that? They are REALLY milking the cow with re-releasing this movie. They probably just want it to reach an even 3 billion. The movie is already the highest grossing movie of all-time and the highest grossing blu-ray of all-time.

:o

You only milk people who want to be milked :)

After all it is a business, the movie made incredible cash, it is understable that the studio wants to make more by re releasinging it ( with added scenes ).

I welcome this move since I wasn't able to see it in 3D in December.

Well, thank you, Mr. Cameron...you got my money once, you're not getting it a second time.

i am insulted by this
''and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D''

who the f.... was not able to watch avatar from december until march?just realese the f... movie ,make more money, buy a new car ad yacht and get out.

if the plan is to get to 3 billion then this is smart for them.briliant. but dont forget that not everyone is an idiot. in 30 years when some fan will say that Avatar made 3 billion you can bet your ass that i will jump inside the thread and tell the truth. they go to 3 billion with a re-realese. a re-realese that happened 4 months after.

well not a lot of people saw it in 3D, there wasnt that many 3D screens compared to now, and plus the 3D in non-IMAX theaters lasted for about 2 months. Besides that yeah of course they want to reach 3 Billion.

dark b this isnt new info, we have known about this for months now lol

Hi,

Not everyone lives in a town full of IMAX or 3D theater, I don't.
When Avatar was released I was hyped but not as much as I was after seeing it so when and IF it is re release in France I will see it in 3D.

In 30 years from now, nobody will really care about Avatar BO, IMO.

When TDK was re released I don't remember negatif comment about the news.

I love how people are *****ing like this move affects them. Why do you care if they might be using this special cut as an excuse to try to hit 3 billion??

Personally, I think it's just people who hated the film that are pissed that it's going to make more money...which brings about my first statement on how they are acting like this affects them in some way.

I won't be seeing it in the theatre but I did pass on the Blu-ray release so I can buy the better version in a few months.

I'm all for being milked if it's a good movie. Loved Avatar. But i'm not sure 8 mins is enough for me to go and buy the film again. Maybe if it was 20 I would.

Did you just find out about this recently?

I heard about it awhile back which is why I avoided buying the first release.

No, I just couldn't wait to buy it. :) And I kind of suspected that a special edition would be released later with just a few extra scenes...that's usually how it goes...the additions are rarely significant and it seems that my be the case with this. 8 mins wouldn't have been worth the wait. But I would certainly Netflix it and check it out.

I understand your PoV, unless you want to see the bonus disk there is not much motivation to buy it.

Since I am a fan ( a fan not deep hardcore fan, I don't speak Na'vi ) I will buy the BR ( I have the DvD ) and get my PC a BR drive.

well I havent bought the previous bluray/dvd yet because Im holding out on this.

I am a bit pissed, no release in France !

i knew about the re-realese.:yay:

i have a problem with them saying that this is for people who didnt have a chance seeing the movie from december until april.and the re-realese is in selected places.

they made a huge profit. this is to get to 3 billion. they could be honest :hehe:

Just as much as I love Director's Cuts I also tend to love extended cuts. While not all extended cuts are good due to most of the time it's the studio trying to make more money by rereleasing the film but sometimes you come across some where the footage put back in the film wasn't that bad and sometimes actually pretty good.

I am a fan of the movie, as I am with all of Cameron's films, but his DC's are usually expansive, I aint gonna buy the movie again for the sake of 6 mins, the extra's I can take or leave so not bothered keeping my current version.

EXCLUSIVE: James Cameron Will Make Record-Setting $350M From 'Avatar'

By Nikki Finke | Friday July 9, 2010 @ 4:49am PDT

I'm told this will be the biggest financial haul ever for a movie director from a single pic because James Cameron had a significant gross percentage of the Twentieth Century Fox megahit as helmer, writer, and producer. Though Hollywood pay experts tell me that the $350M all-in figure is largely attributable to his directing deal structured as "first dollar" gross or more likely "at cash break" gross. It's certainly bigger than either he or the studio -- or anyone -- thought he'd make from Avatar which, after its December 2009 release date, has grossed a best-ever $2.7 billion worldwide at the box office. avatar narrow"But Cameron is making $350 million because the DVD did beyond expectation," an insider tells me. Indeed, its 2D DVD and Blu-Ray worldwide sales smashed records in all categories. And still to come is the release of its 3D DVD in November. Meanwhile, yesterday, Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron announced that a "Special Edition" Avatar will be released in theaters August 27th as a limited engagement and exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D. This version will include more than 8 minutes of new footage. "With Cameron making $350 million, can you imagine what Fox and Dune Entertainment and Ingenious Media are making?" one of my insiders wondered, referring to the three companies that together bankrolled Avatar. And let's not forget there'll be an Avatar sequel... and maybe a threequel as part of what Cameron has been calling a "trilogy-scaled arc of story". And the production costs on the subsequent films should be far less because they've honed the 3D filmmaking technology process.

Forbes magazine about a week ago placed Cameron only #2 on its Celebrity 100 money ranking this year of the richest and most powerful actors, actresses, musicians and other well known showbiz figures. In fact, based on my insiders, Cameron should have been #1 because his $350M far exceeds the $315M which the magazine said top-ranked Oprah Winfrey earned. Forbes underestimated the director's pay at only $210M.

My sources tell me that Cameron's $350M take from Avatar also eclipses his reported $97M haul from the previous #1 biggest movie worldwide, Titanic. But that figure will go higher, too. Earlier this year, Cameron revealed that Titanic will be re-released in 3D in April 2012, in order to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the actual ship. In total, Cameron's directorial efforts have grossed approximately $5.75 billion worldwide.

It's now the stuff of Hollywood legend that Cameron wrote the script for Avatar back in the mid-1990s when he and Stan Winston co-founded Digital Domain. He took the screenplay to their special effects lab only to be told it was just not possible to make the film with the current technology. So he sat on the project for more than a decade. To make Avatar, Cameron created the Fusion Camera System technology for photo-realistic computer-generated characters through motion capture animation. So the director has an ever brighter financial future because he now can sell that technology to 3D filmmakers all over the world. And he'll get top dollar for it, to be sure.

this is so not true. after 5 months they still dont understand what they are talking about.

if James Cameron makes 350 million dollars and doesnt do Battle ANgel and insted Avatar 2 then f.... you Cameron. :awesome::hehe:

FOX obvious made enough money for the next 10 years.

Oh my God! 350 million from ONE movie! INSANE! He is going to be a billionaire by the time hes done with the Avatar franchise :wow:

I wonder how much the Sam, Zoe, and Sigourney made. Im guessing all above 10 million...which is great for Sam and Zoe since they're relatively new to hollywood

gone with the wind only holds the adjusted worldwide gross record because it was rereleased like 4 or 5 times. Star Wars episode 4 counts all of its releases in its totals, what difference does it make?

what difference? you are asking me what the difference ?

hmmmmm the date the date they were realesed?
