i also was checking for hours and i couldnt find where he did. it looks like some are just repeating a lie.
Right. I found the thing where he talks about how he used to be nasty and provocative on Twitter, but he didn't apologize for it.
It just seems like people are going out of their way to excuse and defend the guy they like.
When similar behavior or social media posts happens from someone they don't like, they crucify them.
Also guys, some of the tweets are not 10 years old. Some of them are as late as December 2012, AFTER he got hired by Disney for Guardians of the Galaxy. It was announced Gunn was working on the film in September 2012.
Also I will say I agree with DarthSkywalker that a TV show isn't a Twitter account. TV shows like Rick and Morty have a TV-MA rating at least. And it's easier to understand the context of filthy jokes for taboo subjects when they are done through characters in a TV show or a standup comedy act. When was Gunn ever a standup comic? It's news to me. And IMHO, standup comics should be allowed to tell filthy jokes about taboo subjects if they so please.
When Gunn is making isolated tweets about taboo subjects, it's harder to explain and find the contexts. And just saying, "Oh when I was in my 40s, I was a wild provocateur and liked to say filthy, taboo things. I'm not like that anymore." It's hard for people to believe or accept that when you read just this list of filthy offensive tweet after tweet.
I think part of the problem is that today's culture has fueled this type of outrage moral soap-boxing. Before anyone gets upset this is just an opinion. I think social media just has this habit of turning everyone into monsters. Everyone gets so angry and emotional about everything on social media, and you have to be right. Everyone gets outspoken on social media because it's their platform to be outspoken.
But when everyone gets on a moral soapbox and has to criticize the morality of others...their own sins and background get exposed. Now that's happened to Gunn.
And just FYI, Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy and The Orville, has not said this exact thing, but he's warned about this problem before.
