Swamp Thing James Wan is bringing Swamp Thing to DC's streaming service!

That second ep was pretty damn good. Great world-building and turning up the mystery (and horror) elements.

I don't know how much foresight went into capping production at 10 episodes, as opposed to 13, but I'm hoping there's no cliffhanger.

Loved the second episode. Alec coming out of the swamp was an awesome scene. Loved it when he started pulling all the green off his head then it slowly formed back. Special effects are great in this show.

A big, fat no thank you to more CW shows. I hope Batwoman crashes and burns, so WB stops producing dreck on that network.

Can you imagine the backlash they'll get if they cancel Doom Patrol as well? I hope they don't but if they do, then it'll be warranted. Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol are the best shows DC has ever produced imo. They're quality, unlike the CW shows... Sucks to be a DC fan sometimes.

The CW DC shows are on the level of Fant4stic as far as quality is concerned, except with even worse acting. Those shows feel like they're written by a group tank of 13 year olds and that's what the new WB execs want to strive for? I just...
Jesus **** am I happy that HBO is run by a different division. Gonna be funny when Watchmen from the show-runner of The Leftovers and starring Oscar winning actors Regina King & Jeremy Irons is playing at the same time as Batwoman from the people behind Riverdale and starring Ruby Rose.

I mean, I enjoy some of the CW shows for what they are, but only because I think they do their best for what they have to work with, which is tiny budgets, cheap creatives, a network mandated target-demo and tight, rushed production schedules, but that’s certainly NOT what all DC shows should be forced to work with. They need to be allowed to evolve beyond that quality, and that should sure as hell not be the TARGET quality of any DC show, ffs.

I don't get it. The CW shows have flagging ratings, cheap production values, bad acting and terrible writing. Marvel just released 5 Netflix shows, with 3 of them having great acting and one of them having incredible and inventive action sequences throughout. They have Disney+ shows coming up that'll cost $100m and star the movie actors.
To compete with that you're gonna... further invest in the CW? What the ****.

I’m will for sure cancel my subscription at that point and just wait patiently for the Blu-ray releases.

The first three seasons of The Flash were great, the first 2 seasons of Arrow were great, it's been on a steady decline since then for me. I still watch them, but mannn, I do not want any of the new DC shows similar to that. Batwoman looks pretty terrible to me. I will not be turning in for it. Haven't watched Supergirl for some time, it gets old when they put down Superman in the show. Shame, I actually like the guy playing him, although he really doesn't look like Superman to me.

That said, the two episodes of Swamp Thing have been amazing, Doom Patrol has been the right type of off the wall that I think Legends tried to be, but doesn't reach.

I want more shows like we're getting on the DC Universe app, definitely do not want more CW type shows...

WarnerMediaStreaming just green-lit a big budget show set in the Dune universe with Denis Villeneuve, but for some reason they think DC doesn't deserve anything more than the CW dreck. Bleugh.

It'll probably get cancelled after Dune bombs at the box office

The series is gonna be too far into production to cancel it entirely. It's still getting a chance to live, unlike big budget DC shows - since AT&T prefer the CW trite for them.

DOOM PATROL is the best live-action superhero depiction in history.

I was just going to bring up WarnerMedia after reading about Dune today. I think technical engineers could easily create some site overlap between separate streaming services to watch these shows on either with maybe a few perks specific to each.

Swamp Thing could really benefit from maybe appearing on a different network or streaming service if it gains a cult following. Hopefully that happens.

Based on Frank Herbert's novel, the female-focused take will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Jon Spaihts.

WarnerMedia's forthcoming streaming service is poised to explore the world of Dune.

The yet-unnamed platform has handed out a straight-to-series order for Dune: The Sisterhood, a female-focused take on Frank Herbert's beloved novel. Denis Villeneuve, who wrote, produced and directed next year's new take on Dune, will helm the pilot. Jon Spaihts will pen the script for the TV series, which hails from Legendary Television. Villeneuve and Spaihts will executive produce alongside Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert for the Frank Herbert estate. Kevin J. Anderson will co-produce. Spaihts co-wrote the screenplay alongside Villeneuve.

Production on the Dune feature, which hails from Legendary Entertainment and is being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, began filming in March. The film's cast includes Timothee Chalamet as the lead character, Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac and David Dastmalchian. It is scheduled to premiere Nov. 20, 2020.

Herbert's Dune novel examines a future in which humanity has spread across the galaxy to thousands of worlds, all ruled by the Padishah Emperor, The Imperium. Dune: The Sisterhood takes place in the same universe and explores the future through the eyes of a mysterious order of women: the Bene Gesserit. Given abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis — known to its inhabitants as Dune.

"The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me. Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series,” Villeneuve said.

The TV series and feature film are the tip of the iceberg for Legendary's larger plan for Dune, which also includes video games, digital content packages and comic book series. Legendary CEO Joshua Grode told The Hollywood Reporter in April that the plan was to split Dune across two movies, though only the first one has been scheduled. To date, there have been more than 20 books in the Dune series, the first six of them written by Herbert. His son, Brian, and Kevin J. Anderson, continued the series.

Next year's Dune is the second time the franchise has been adapted for the big screen. The first Dune, released in 1984, was written and directed by David Lynch and starred Kyle MacLachlan, Francesca Annis, Virginia Madsen, Sting and Patrick Stewart, among others. It was adapted by writers John Harrison and Herbert as a three-part TV series starring William Hurt in 2000 on Syfy. In 2003, Greg Yaitanes (Lost) directed a three-part Syfy follow-up from Harrison and Herbert that starred James McAvoy.

WarnerMedia's streaming service is due to launch in beta in late 2019. The platform will feature a roster of scripted originals as well as content from WarnerMedia-owned platforms including HBO, TBS, TNT, CNN and more. Dune is the third series in the works for the SVOD service, joining Paul Feig's comedic anthology Love Live, starring Anna Kendrick, and the Ansel Egort-led drama Tokyo Vice. A Gremlins animated TV series is also in the works.

Both Dune and Gremlins take advantage of the library content that is controlled by WarnerMedia. The model is similar to what Disney+ and CBS All Access are doing with their respective platforms. Both of those feature new series based on studio-owned IP including Star Wars and Marvel (Disney+) and Star Trek and The Twilight Zone (All Access).

Insiders were shocked when DC Universe's 'Swamp Thing' was suddenly canceled despite a huge investment in the series and rave reviews

Seven people close to the production, who wished to remain anonymous, told Business Insider they were shocked by the news that "Swamp Thing" was canceled.

The James Wan-produced horror show, based on the DC comic book, has a 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and "#SaveSwampThing" immediately began trending on Twitter after the series was canceled.

"Cancellation came as a surprise, 100%," a producer on the series said. "It came out of left field."

The first season was originally going to be 13 episodes, but production abruptly shut down in April after the season was cut to 10 episodes. Despite this, the seven people said they had little inclination that the show was in trouble, and even expected more seasons to come, especially after the show started getting good buzz.

"We walked away with the sets standing," the producer said. "We didn't tear them down and go home."

One source close to the production told Business Insider that the show had a possible three-season arc, and the feeling on set was that it could have gone past that if it was a hit, with characters spinning off into their own shows. The source used the specific example of a potential "Justice League Dark" team-up series.

Not sure if true but reading that the whole streaming service is rumoured to be getting shut down with only Titans beings set to survive.

Caught the 1st 2 episodes of swamp thing. Can't believe they are cancelling this. Its so good. So much better than all the DC shows on CW.

I agree.

They are really too formulaic as well.

In a time when television is getting really creative and the writing is some of the best it's ever been on television it stands out just how dull and predictable the CW DC shows can be at times.

I imagine the show is going to have the big revelation twist moment from the comics in the first season like Doom Patrol had.

For Doom Patrol it was
The Chief being behind all the 'accidents' that gave them abilities

For Swamp Thing it will probably be
Alec Holland really died and Swamp Thing just has Alec's memories

Swamp Thing died but we're getting a Lobo show... :/

The thing you have to remember, with Warner, you have a situation of fiefdoms vying against each other.

As for the CW shows, not everything has to be prestige TV.
