Jamie Alexander has a Blindspot

An OK pilot, comparison to John Doe is unavoidable but luckily I never watched the full show so Blindspot still feels new.
The tech woman was the waitress in Avengers.

Nitpick : the bomb squad guy panicking...

I thought it was Dakota Johnson at first.

I thought it was a very solid premiere. It looks like Jaimie Alexander's character will be carrying the show. She was the mysterious, hot, obscure Chinese speaking bad*** with the dramatic weight while the other guy was there to tell her not to do anything.

The premiere opened big. 10.61m, 3.1m in the demo. Hope it holds, I can watch Jaimie in anything.

It was actually Ashley Johnson, aka the voice of:

My brother has a crush on her, has for while. Why I know her.

Anytime I see her pop up in something the first thing I always think of is hey it's Chrissy from Growing Pains.
When I realized it was her on Growing Pains, it blew my mind. :funny:

Jaime Alexander was the main reason for watching this. The male lead and the other characters seem rather bland and forgettable. It was okay as a pilot but reminds me a bit of the Blacklist crossed with the Bourne Identity.

Yeah, it's definitely all on her shoulders as the male lead has very little charisma and came off kinda wooden.

Why is the male lead's name listed first in the credits before Jaime Alexander? Who is he? I've never even seen or heard of him before. He's not the main character either so why does he get top billing? Just cause he's a man?

Sullivan Stapleton is the reason I watched this show, love him in the series Strike Back. Seems like it could be a fun show, hopefully it keeps doing well in the ratings.

He's been the lead in a (terrible) blockbuster (300: Rise of an Empire), and he was also one of the two leads in Strike Back for years, so he has more cred as a lead than Jaimie. That's probably why he gets top billing.

I wasn't really into this pilot at all. I'll give it a couple more eps, but I doubt I'll be watching this for long.

I haven't watched this yet, but it shocks me to hear that about Sullivan Stapleton - he was great and super charismatic in the show Strike Back, which leads me to believe the writing for the character here is holding him back.

Except he was also bland in 300: Rise of an Empire. Eva Green and Lena Headey acted circles around him in that film.

The character so far is more serious than the one he plays in Strike Back and IMO he did fine with what he was given.

I loved the whole bit of her going all Jackie Chan on the landlord and the other guy (the kicking the mop handle to break it and use it as a weapon was bad ass!).

i finally got to watch this last night/this morning.

really enjoying the idea of it so far. i like how the cast is pretty diverse.
i'm interested in finding out if they follow up on the hospital scene
"it was supposed to be you for your sister" and that guy in general as its obvious that he's from Jane's past
and i'm interested in that redacted file that Mayfair had

there was even some small stuff that was pretty great but probably unappreciated. the whole coffee vs tea thing was a great place for Jane to jump onto and the doctor gave her a shred of hope.

i've got this set on my DVR so i will def keep tuning in

Yep. This is exactly what I expected from "Not Leonidas". Eva Green embarrassed him in that film. After this and 300, dude is super bland.

He was really good in Strike back. He plays a different character in Blindspot & more straight (of sorts). But it's just the pilot.

His other half is on the player. I'll see what that's about too

Stapleton was definitely better as the lovable rogue in Strike Back than he is as the straight man here. But the character he's been given here is also just really boring, so there's that.

i'll give him some time before i critique his character. from what i can tell he's a very able fbi agent who's pretty professional. i'm not sure how i could act around someone like Jane who is a complete blank slate

But even in the scenes where he wasn't acting opposite Jaime Alexander, he was still bland. And a different and better actor would be able to still have some charisma even opposite her. Jaime may not be the best actress, and her character may be a blank slate, but she is still far more interesting than him.

It must be a pain to pain on those tattoos every time. I'm guessing it has to be some kind of stencil or transfer to get it so exact each time.

She's not really a blank slate, either. She can't discuss football or the latest episode of Game of Thrones (yet), but she's always either showing how traumatized she is or showing a desire (sometimes a determination) to be involved in dealing with her case. She comes off as less of a blank slate than him despite not knowing who she is.

The problem as I see it (aside from questions of the actor's range) is that he's supposed to be stoic and married to the job, and that's the wrong approach for a character that Jane Doe needs to bounce off of. Since she's experiencing the world like it's new, her partner should represent the world, someone who actually wants to talk about things that are new to her. Since she's mysterious and her situation is strange, he should be normal, an everyman whose reaction to the situation mirrors the audience's. Since she's traumatized, he should be somewhat optimistic, not afraid to love or whatever his deal is.

Instead, they gave us a bad*** whose bad****** is upstaged right out the gate by hers. His tough guy routine doesn't feel earned because he's an FBI agent in a Special Ops story. It's like trying to make Quentin Lance look awesome when he's in a show with Green Arrow/Deathstroke/etc., just because he can shoot a gun.

Yeah, normally if you have a straight man (or woman), you don't pair them up with another straight man. Since she is an enigma and has a particular set of skills, then he should be more approachable and jovial. He's not really a complementary character for her.

And I agree she isn't a blank slate as such.
