Who do you like better by what we've seen so far. We finally got to see a little bit of Stevensons acting like Punisher so how does everyone feel and why?

Jane ruled in the role. Stevenson seems forced, not buying his act. I like the guy, loved him in ROme, but I am not buying him as Castle - from what LITTLE I have seen so far.

The trailer looks like crap by the way, very B rate.

sentiments are exact. But it is too early.

Thomas Jane. And i didn't even like that movie.

Ray Stevenson. He's actually getting into the Punisher character. It's new so of course harder to get into... just like Ledger as the Joker. I see it working.

As far as calling it B-movie, that's a bit harsh. Frank Castle is in a world of sleeze joking lit by monotone colors. Neon set in black. It fits in this case.

No, it's a B-movie. Being a B-movie isn't necessarily a bad thing, Speilberg makes B-movies, alight expensive ones, but B-movies non the less.

Ok then, aren't all superhero movies b-movies?

Pretty much, though Watchmen may change that.

so far... Jane.

Haha... no. When half the Summer blockbuster movies these days are Superhero movies, no, I'd say most Superhero movies aren't. However, PWZ with a 15-30mil budget, probably will be. Punisher 2004 sure was.

And they both bring different aspects to the role, but Jane feels like a poor man's Clive Owen in it. Since Punisher needs a fresh look, it should bring a fresh approach to Frank Castle. IMO!

Tom Jane made the role of the Punisher. Whenever I read the comics, I picture/hear his voice. The difference between Jane and Stevenson. Thomas Jane can actually act and make it sound like what he is saying is real. Stevenson sounds like he's just reading from a cue card.

But Punisher 2004 failed. It didn't make a lot of money, and it's sitting at 28% at Rotten Tomatoes, so the critics didn't like it either.

If they're rebooting a franchise, and hoping for it to succeed, they don't want to bring along they guy that was the star in the first movie. That'd be like rebooting Batman Begins with George Clooney.

Now I'm not saying Jane single-handidly destroyed Punisher. He may have done everything he could to make the movie good. But he was on board when that ship sunk, and shouldn't be associated with the new film. The actual movie, not a trailer, will tell if Ray Stevenson can do it better.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about rotten tomatoes. Critics do not make or break a movie.

And the 2004 movie did pull in a profit from it's theatrical release and was huge on DVD. I think a lot a movie goers are going to see the 2008 POS and ask where is Tom Jane and why does it look like Batman and Robin with all the pretty colors?

When 82% of critics didn't like the movie, then I'd say the general consensus is that it's bad. In fact, outside of a die-hard minority, I'd say that's what a lot of punisher fans felt too.

There were parts of the 2004 one I liked, but I felt it was pretty average at best. And pulling a profit? Catwoman, with DVD sales factored in, pulled a profit. Or that terrible "Marine" movie starring John Cena. It pulled a profit, mostly from DVD sales. A movie doesn't have to be good to do well. I'd go with Critical reception over how much it made any day.

I don't understand why the 04 movie gets so much heat. I thought it was great.

From what I've seen so far of the Stevensons, I still pick Jane.

Woah woah woah woah, I loved X2 its one of my favorite superhero movies. The only superhero movie I really despise is Ghost Rider mainly because I love Ghost Rider.

I thought X2 was pretty good as well. An improvement on X1 for sure, and better than the 3rd.

But isn't it enough about Jane anyways? It doesn't seem like he wanted to do this movie anyways, so there went any chance of it being a sequel. There's no reason to hang around a Punisher War Zone board and mope, just let the people actually excited about WZ have their fun.

Well you have to actually see the new movie in order to answer a question like this.

But at the moment I would have to go with Stevenson. He's bigger and rougher around the edges. Jane did ok and he was by far the best thing about the '04 movie. The film fell short but not because of Jane. And when it comes to that infamous PS2 game...well, Jane sounded absolutely AMAZING.

But yeah, I think that Stevenson has all the potential in the world to be the better overall Frank Castle. He has the looks, he has the acting chops, he has that bad mofo aura around him. Now everything just comes down to the script. If the script delivers, well then I believe that also Stevenson delivers.

Thomas Jane FTW.

I was very dissapointed to hear he wasn't returning for a sequel but with a fresh start must come a fresh face and I'll give Mr. Stevenson a fair go before I judge him too harshly. I wasn't taken in by his performance in the trailer, but the trailer wasn't a whole lot of footage of his acting to go by in terms of his performance.

Bring on December

And director, if you haven't seen Hooligans you should know there are some bad bits of acting in it.

This was a tough choice, both are good actors and both to me have the physical appearance of punihser, but in the end that was the deciding factor for me. Thomas Jane is a good actor and can play some serious deep characters (Mist, 61*, Punisher). He was great Frank Castle and punisher from the MK run. He has the right look, build, heigt, & voice. When I read welcome back Frank I think of Jane.

However, Stevenson I think will be just as good if not better. Before Ennis' punisher became the ground breaking mold for what the character is defined as today, there were guys like Steve Grant & Chuck Dixon. When I think of punisher sure, this image comes up sometimes:

But most times when I see Frank I think of him more along the lines of this:

and Various others Like Lewis Larosa's punisher or Lan Medina's Punisher. Jane was good but only as that specific punisher. He couldn't pull off the above posted punisher's, hell I doubt he could've pulled this off and he provided the damn voice:
