We have had 3 stabs at the Punisher now, and im just wondering which one people think has been the best movie so far, in terms of both being a movie and how faithful to the comics the movies have been.

Or it could just be which one you like the most, i'm curious to see which one wins as non of them have had any critical success, and they have barely had any commercial success either, yet there seems to be a fanbase for each of them. I have liked each of them for different reasons, but the 2004 Punisher movie was the best of them for me, Tom Jane rocked as the character (though Ray Stevenson was awesome also), but, as with all of the punisher movies, the bad guys tended to let the movie down.

Anyway, vote away on what you think has been the best Punisher movie so far guys and gals.

My favorite is the Tom Jane version. It got things wrong but for the most part I enjoyed and appreciated it.

I loved the War Zone; Just pure ridiculous over the top chaos.
Ray was a great punisher, and I just loved the cheesy quality of it all. I never really got into the Punisher before, so it was really a step up for me.

^I totally see what both of you guys are saying about both movies, but the bad guys in War Zone are what really bring it down for me, if they werent so hammy and forced, the movie would have been much better.

The Punisher-2004, the fight scene against the russian is just f**king crazy... and i love it.

Agreed, it was better than any of the fight scene's in Warzone, they were all over too quick, especially the one with LBJ, but the one with the russian, yeah that was great.

It's no surprise that I think the 2004 film is the best of the three, it has it's issues mainly in the script department, but the performances and direction are than the other two. It may have changed the how in regards to the origin, but the why pretty much stays the same and the fact that he's an FBI agent actually adds more of a kick to the gut for the character.

Also the torture scene with Spacker Dave and Glass is the most unsettling thing in any of the movies, even though it wasn't bloody or anything it makes for it by being pretty intense.

As for Stevenson, he was good there's no doubt about that, he just needed a better movie.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loved the 04 Punisher. Tom's great, the direction takes a lot of cues from classic western tropes and with the budget constrains he did a great job.

Now that there is a fantastic...Punisher film, Punisher War Zone, I have no desire to ever see...Tom Jane's The Punisher ever again. Dolph Lundgren's The Punisher (1989), is far closer to the original comic, even without Micro, and Frank Castle's trademarked skull on a kevlar vest. While there is alot in PWZ taken right from Garth Ennis run on Punisher, there also seems to be alot of...Mike Baron's as well. Read Essential Punisher 2and 3 to see the similarities.

I like all three of them but the 2004 one is my favorite by far. Thomas Jane IMO is still the best Punisher (although Ray is also great), he embodies the essence of The Punisher very well and I was able to connect with him easily. I also enjoyed the story, seeing the origin of Frank and how he evolved more into The Punisher as the movie went on, and despite the origin being slightly altered I actually prefer P2K4's origin to the comic, it made for a more tragic backstory, IMO. While the action scenes were somewhat scarce and short, I felt they were entertaining enough and there was a strong sense of payoff from them for me. I also enjoyed the villians (The Saints, Glass and The Russian were all cool) and the music was great. The movie was just more well-made and enjoyable for me than the other two, overall.

All three are good movies, but 2004 is the winner for me.

1989 is my favourite because of how much fun it is.

But 2004 is definitely the most well made.

I have to be honest, i didnt think the 2004 movie would get so many votes as it has, I thought the other two would give it more of a run for its money but it seems like Jane's movie is the most popular so far.

So gutted Jane never got to play the role again, a sequel with him would have been awesome.

Warzone ever so slightly, only because it was slightly more faithful than the other 2 and i loved the max series it was based on.

Heh, that´s kinda like asking who´s the best tennis player from Kuala Lumpur...

I enjoyed them all, but '04 I like the best.

Best as in best film, or best Punisher movie?

WAR ZONE for best Punisher movie. The silent, sad moments in WAR ZONE have every bit as much weight as any of the melodrama in THE PUNISHER. Not that I didn't enjoy a lot of THE PUNISHER.

I am also one of the people that thinks '04 is really underrated. I would have loved a sequel with Thomas Jane. Alas...

As i said in the first post, its about both faithfulness and how good it was as a movie, just thought I would clear that up for you Guard.

That's a tough one, then. Maybe one the episodes from the SPIDER-MAN animated series...
