War Zone had the worst Benz performance. That bit outside her house when Castle's talking to the little girl is some of the worst acting I've seen outside of a Sci-Fi Channel B movie

I enjoyed Rambo 4 a lot more than PWZ. Julie Benz was terrible in both movies, but I could at least tolerate her in Rambo. If Lexi would have played PWZ as rough, visceral and brutal like Rambo was, PWZ would have been the best Punisher movie ever, but she went for campy over the top violence.

I agree with that. There was this one interview, I don't know if it was with Stevenson or Alexander, but they go on to say in it that they approached the violence in an campy/over-the-top way because they didn't want some kid to want emulate it, or some weird BS. You would think if that's what they thought, they would have gone the more visceral route to achieve that.

Also, it's still funny that reading the MAX books, the writers/director thought the best route to go with it was to be campy. There are maybe two story arcs in the Ennis MAX run that could be consider more comedic, those being "Kitchen Irish" and "Barracuda", but those are only two out of ten story arcs, and they weren't really campy funny.

Most of the Max stories are pretty dark in tone although many of them have a healthy dosage of dark humor. PWZ definitely has far campier humor. As Grundy said, even the more humorous Max stories weren't funny in a campy way.

I rewatched the movie Death Sentence earlier and I have to say going by this movie alone, James Wan could direct a very good Punisher movie. Something dark, gritty and brutal, with a no-nonsense tone. This is something the next Punisher film definitely needs to be after the OTT and campy nature of PWZ.

The only real probably with Death Sentence is Wan's choice of songs. Well except for the Black Angels ones.

One thing I found hilarious in PWZ regarding the use of songs, was that Jigsaw listens to emo music in his car.

Nah, if the actor was Stevenson that scene was perfect!

You know. In my school, where we learn to write comics :woot:, we've talked about Punisher's movies. Well, 2004's Punisher is wrong for one thing: Tom Jane.

If Dolph Lundgren knock to my door and - watching in my eyes - said "I'll kill you", i totally **** in my pants.

If Stevenson knock to my door and - watching in my eyes - said "I'll kill you", i totally **** in my pants.

If Jane knock to my door and - watching in my eyes - said "I'll Kill you", i start to laugh.

Me and my friends are totally agree. He's a good actor but a bad Punisher. He hasn't that physique du role, that "Punisher" face. He has an angel face. Too wrong for Castle.
Yeah, I always thought Jane came off as a *****.

Seriously how bad ass do you have to look when your main source of intimidation is a lethal weapon. The most wimpy looking dude is pretty bad ass looking when they got a 12 gauge in they hand and nobody wants to mess with that dude.

This isn't Punsiher film related, it looks like thepunisher.com is being sold. It was a cool site and it's sad to see it go.

Yeah I posted this in the Punisher comic book thread, but it was ignored. I guess it was to much for Micro to maintain. Anyone hear from him to find out what the deal is?

Punisher War Zone is the embodiment of bad filming. Seriously, I dont understand how anyone with an IQ level can possibly like that horrid excuse for a film. It had absolutely nothing that made it good for me, Ray may look like the Punisher but his acting seemed rather stale.

Punisher 2004 on the other hand is a fantastic movie which I think is among the best Marvel films to date. It bases itself on my two most favorite Punisher comics Year One and Welcome Back Frank and it even throws in a scene from the very first Punisher comic I ever read (Popsicle torture from War Zone #1). Thomas Jane is an amazing actor who perfectly captures what the Punisher stands for and I also respect him as a fan who knows what he is talking about when it comes to a Punisher film.

More then War Zone, I hate the incessant fanboys of it who constantly say its so book accurate and that Punisher 04 is a *ussy! You know all that BS constantly spouted off to maybe make it seem like their movie deserved to make even 1/3 of the budget back.

Theres a reason why Punisher War Zone is the lowest grossing Marvel movie ever. Nuff said.

Best one by far is 2004 because it had good acting, good action and was a real Punisher flick. I wish they made a sequel cause it would of been like Taxi Driver, dark and grity. Which is what a Punisher film should exactly be.

The best Punisher movie is the last fifteen or so minutes of Punisher War Zone. Sadly everything before it sucks balls. They nailed Punisher and Microchip in that film, and if it weren't for the sh-- direction, sh-- script and sh-- supporting cast you might have actually had a good movie. The ending though is actually pretty freaking good. The way in which he mercilessly beats Jigsaw and saves the woman and child, but in the process still sacrifices Microchip is completely in line with his characters to a T. Ray Stevenson never comes off like a ***** (unlike Jane), and actually plays the character (unlike Lundgren). If it weren't for the corny crap fest that leads to the climax it could've been decent. I really appreciate how War Zone makes Punisher very, very brutal, and yet somewhat compassionate to the innocent in the process. I love how he essentially just shoots criminals without even a hint of remorse or hesitation. I just hate the actual act of watching the rest of the cast stumble through their god-awful dialogue. Punisher and Microchip were great though. With a more capable director and scriptwriter they could've kept the same story and the film would've been much better.

War-Zone was your 1980s mindless, stuid action film. Punisher 2004 was way better and even Punisher 1989 was better then PWZ. Rather had that sequel to Jane film being like Taxi Driver.

The one thing that War Zone had was a better Punisher. The only good thing about it was Stevenson. I still debate which was better between '89 and War Zone which is sad since both of those movies are a hot pile. But clearly the best movie was '04. I'm a Punisher fan, and it's the only one I will own on DVD.

OK I voted War Zone, because Ray Stevenson is the onlyone who gives a performance that's anything like the Frank Castle from the comics. But the best Punisher movie is the Thomas Jane movie. The problem is the Thomas Jane movie is really a western done in the name of the Punisher.

The problem with War Zone, was they did Jigsaw as if they were copying Nicholson's Joker. The scene were he's dropped into the machine crushing the glass is straight out of the '89 Batman. They even use the line, "Billy is dead, you can call me Jigsaw." Seriously WTF?

Then there's just some horrible performances.

I guess the real answer is "none of the above". But if there was one redeeming thing about War Zone, it's Ray Stevenson's performance, which makes it worth a movie rental.

89 was better then WZ....had better acting and action....WZ just had a better Punisher.

Thomas Jane is The Punisher; hands-down. I was sad to see his incarnation of the character not get a second-go.

Marvel has the rights back. Reading the Marvel panel live blog now. Feige just confirmed it.

I'm VERY glad to hear that. It's time to get back to good Punisher movies (I enjoyed '04) and erase War Zone from our memories.
