But I play "Meet The Parents" and the whole story Jay tells is vivid and crisp and unlike 97% of Em's work....not a gimmick.
Rock Bottom
Stan
Kim
Cleanin' Out My Closet
Sing For The Moment
8 Mile
Rabbit Run

You must be joking if you think Jay is better than Em at storytelling. In overall longevity and influence in the rap game, Hov trumps him. But when it comes to both their flows and lyrical ability during their peak years, Em is untouchable.

And I'll just conveniently leave out the only featured song in his classic album, that he got murdered on. :o

This thread can't be for real. Eminem? Really?

Em was my #3 rapper a few years ago, following only Jay and Luda. Em's put out some great music but Jay's stuff means so much more. I live in Delaware so I get to see plenty of "crazy white boy wants to kill his mom". But I play "Meet The Parents" and the whole story Jay tells is vivid and crisp and unlike 97% of Em's work....not a gimmick.

So.. out of 230+ songs, 223 of them are gimmicks?

I'd say maybe 20-30 Eminem songs are full out gimmicks, that leaves 200+ songs of crazy storytelling and rhyming skill. Few people can touch Em's multis.

Where's the "neither" or "other" option? :oldrazz:

But seriously, I can't choose. Hmm? I guess I'll go with Jay-Z.

I wouldn't go so far to say "rap sucks". There's old school and some excellent stuff not on the radio. Now the hip hop stations that play the popular stuff? That **** sucks

I'll take Common, Talib Kweli, One.Be.Lo over both of them.

That's why you have to go--UNDERGround.

That's where the artesian well, aquifers, and spring water lie.

You forgot 97 Bonnie and Clyde...Em was a waaaaaaay better story teller than Jay and has more meaning to the game than Jay ever will. Eminem revolutioned how to rap words that don't and he is the only trully successful battle rap emcee to make it to the top. he is THE emcee. Never talked about his collateral as I d=said where Jay makes that same old black ignorant music when it's not needed at all. Eminem has NEVER conformed and when he has tried with Gunit we all know that ain't him. As for Jay, gosh he is no diff than Wayne, only that he does it better. jay has some meaningful songs but not that many and Eminem is a FAAAAAR more creative cat.

100% agreed.

CHUCK D.

Cause the "D" is for Dangerous, you can come and get some of this...

When was this? I thought it was Gay-Z, not Em.

That's who I was talking about. I don't like Jay Z as a person cause he slept on so much real emcees when he had the power to turn the game around. Joe Budden cam back and KILLED him for it.

I was seriously about to post about how I am so obviously an old man and then ramble on and on about how "kids today" don't know what music is, because Chuck D is the greatest rapper of all time...

Chuck D is the man. Talk about lyrical content with flow combined... and he was a beast, vocally.

LOUDER THAN A BOMB!

Old school nothing...

I am listening to Boogie Down Productions ON VINYL. :whatever:

Be right back... I need to hobble to my porch and chase some kids off my lawn.

No one is down with Bill Everlast? Whitey Ford Sings the Blues was the album that made me believe that there were people still capable of making money off of their music without stripping or grinding on hoochies. This guy ahs worked with Run DMC as well as other non-sucks MUSICIANS.

I love me some Em btw. I don't really care for Jay-Z.

I hate them both, actually I hate rap and R&B but I guess Eminem is slightly better.

When I keep seeing people claim that they don't like rap/hip-hop, I can't help but feel that they don't really know what rap is.

He was good, but no Rakim

The microphone fiend.

Rakim flowed like no other and every rapper after him stole his flow (can u say 2pac) but what Chuck D. rap about and how he said, what he said changed the game forever!

Don't get me wrong I used to like-ish rap back when I was younger, I've just moved on & grown out of it.

Man, bit of a tender spot for a lot of people. Anyway I'll say Jay.

Eminem's first two albums have some bright spots but for the most part they get old over time. It wasn't until his third album when he learned to actually flow (Blueprint was the first sign of this) well and put together some incredible songs. He followed that up with some great stuff on 8 Mile and that was it. It's been hit or miss ever since. One great album that may be better than any one Jay album. Jay still has more quality songs evenly distributed over his 10 albums and countless other appearances like Streets is Watching. Anyone who thinks Eminem can flow better than Jay really doesn't know what that means imho. It mainly comes down to preference of subject matter I think.

Oh and Jay destroyed Nas on the first diss of Blueprint.

"That's a one hot album every ten year average"

And how does he respond? Gay jokes.

Same can be said for Rakim. The 18th letter is my greatest hip hop album of all time, from beats to lyrical content and to his impeccable delivery. Rakim had more impact to the lyrical poetry than any rapper alive. Dude still out shined Jay on the watcher 2
