BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 1

I think one of the reasons why this casting has thrown some people off their seats is that they're just too accustomed to the idea of Lex being older than Superman; I mean truth be told... our past film versions of Lex were all holder than our film versions of Superman.

But yeah, this was definitely an unexpected choice. It should be interesting on where Snyder goes with all of this. I trust the dude a lot when it comes to casting his characters.

Your fears have no bases in reality what-so-ever.

Still think it has no basis?

But I just wonder what made you concerned he might be a comedic character in the first place.

Not necessarily a 'comedic' character. Iron Man isn't a 'comedian' but his quips and one liners are considered comedy. Thats what I fear here, that Eisenberg will be basically a 'bad' Iron Man.

Even IF he does, it'll be subtle, dark humor. Terrio is very good with that.

Not only would I not mind this, with someone like Eisenberg playing Luthor I'd welcome it, as it plays to his strengths as an actor.

Response to that poster: I'm pretty sure after two Oscar nominations that Jonah Hill can be considered an acclaimed real actor now in the industry so...

This is the only kind of humor I want. And it needs to be timed properly, so it doesn't deflate the tension of a scene. Please no Marvel-style humor.

Lex Luthor was a younger guy at some point, just like Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent were. *This Lex is just going toe to toe with Superman at an earlier point in his timeline.

*Doctor Who speak coming through. :woot:

I seriously doubt Jesse's Lex is going to be bald. It's obvious they're going for a different angle with this version of Lex, being younger than Supes and Bruce and all.

I rather his hair be buzzed like thatpaulallen's manip here

This actually looks...really good. :hmm

Yep I'd still say it has no bases in reality. You believe that the only way to add humor to a film is to make the bad guy funny? You really believe after saying that this Lex is going to be different that they are suddenly going to make him funny like Hackman and Spacey Lex?

Totally off-topic, but I would love to see Jenna Coleman do a DC Comics film in the future. :woot::oldrazz:

I expect they'll build up his 'cred' as a bad guy early because of the perception that he is 'weak'. Like how Nolan had the Joker robbing the mafia and walking in on crime boss meetings to build his 'cred' as a tough guy.

So I more then expect to see Luthor do something dastardly early. Perhaps throw an assistant out a window, or if they dont want him to physically get his hands dirty have him trap a disloyal employee in some sort of experimental machine that ends with a brutal death

I was very happy with Amy, but since you brought it up...I think Jenna Coleman could have made a decent Lois.

Agreed. DC should add more light hearted moments to their films but don't over do it.

IF that were ever to happen, I'm sure we would get the "she's too short" and "too British" arguments brought against her. Funny, the latter "argument" was brought up when Henry was initially cast as Superman.

That's probably true, but at least she'd be brunette and prevent those redhead Lois complaints. :oldrazz:

I'd hate that. Baldness IS the character, visually speaking. Snyder would be foolish not to make him distinctive.

Also, you have the posters and the merchandise to think about. A poster/action figure of a curly-haired, normal looking lanky guy?

Yeah but there's a difference between putting bells and whistles on someone in a manip and simply making them bald. Bald is a universal, simplistic look. All I'm saying is he creeps me the hell out in those pics. Doesn't help he has crazy eyes going on.

The more "creepy" and intimidating and sinister he looks as Lex the better, and if the shaven look (a la Pharaohs as a symbol of status and power) does that then they should definitely do it.

I don't doubt that he'll be bald for the film...what remains to be seen is if he is bald or becomes bald because of an accident

This recent news and reaction reminds me of when they cast that old frail man as this guy

And people were focusing on the the lack of hamstrings and voice instead of the important things. Same for Logan, that goes double for Roarsach. Ian could never be that guy in the picture but rather, something new, interesting and addictive to the mythology. A new magneto. I for one think a new lex is just what the brand needs.

All that curly hair on Luthor? No way. If it was almost anybody else playing the character, maybe, but definitely not Eisenberg.

I had people fight me when I suggested if Ryan Gosling got the Batman role they should let him keep his hair blonde. Theres no way people will accept a curly headed Luthor. Just no way.

Besides, he looks very menacing bald in those manipulations. Like if he walked up behind me and I saw that face I'd almost have a heart attack. Very creepy looking which makes up for his lack of size etc.

I was actually thinking it was Aaron Paul "Jesse" from breaking bad when I first started to read about this. I thought maybe they were trying to be clever or something with the Eisenberg name.

So your argument is that because people didn't like the lack of humour in MOS, that suddenly Lex is going to be the comedic character?

Where is the logic...? Especially considering that Snyder and Goyer couldn't possibly give a **** what critics think. It's their story to tell, not the GA or the critics.

I just wonder how many people out there, if any, that are concerned about Eisenberg's height wanted Joaquin Phoenix, who himself is just 5'8".

I prefer Lex to be bald because it's his iconic look, but I don't want them to focus on his baldness or try to explain it. Just have him be bald.

And it wouldn't be the end of the world if he had hair.
