Because if Breaking Bad hadn't happened, then I seriously doubt that people would be going "you know who'd make a great Lex Luthor, the dad from Malcolm in the Middle." Ditto on Jon Hamm, or Michael C. Hall, etc.
), but I think it's safe to assume that Lex was always meant to be eccentric. If so, the degree and manner of his eccentricity was probably changed a bit to suit Eisenberg's strengths.
