BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 10

Bryan Cranston even made fun of that notion. "You just want me because I played a villainous bald guy relatively recently." Because if Breaking Bad hadn't happened, then I seriously doubt that people would be going "you know who'd make a great Lex Luthor, the dad from Malcolm in the Middle." Ditto on Jon Hamm, or Michael C. Hall, etc.

Pretty much. That's why fanboys aren't casting directors, thank gawd.

And then people would be complaining that they were the "safe and predictable" route, you can bank on that. And again, I point out the last trailer, where most of his dialogue was much more creepy/sinister, as was his line to Lois here. So people, surprise surprise for fanboys, are making A LOT of assumptions.

This seems to be a movie where "dual identities" is a running theme, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Lex has one as well, in a sense.

I've been reading this kind of thing a lot here and other places online. I can't help but feel people are simply hoping Lex is pretending to be someone he isn't because they don't like the idea of him actually being who he's depicted as in the trailer.

The "safe and predictable" route with Luthor has somehow never found its way onto the big screen.

Yeah, strangely enough for anyone saying fans are not open to change the reality is every movie version of Luthor has been far from 'traditional'.

Wasn't Lex in his original incarnation a scientist that sort of went mad and blamed Superman and wanted to destroy him for loosing his hair?

Luthor was always a mad scientist until the 1986 DC universe revamp and John Byrne made him more into a power hungry business man.

Were Hamm & Hall actual contenders for the role? Is there an official group of actors that were in the running before Eisenberg got it? Just fmyi...

Im almost 100% sure they weren't

They are really good choices though. I know people started to right em off as just fanboy choices but I wouldn't have minded them at all. Especially Jon Hamm (loved his Funny or Die sketch) you want a charming and menacing Luthor and he wouldn't nailed it in his sleep.

Never was that big a fan of Cranston as Lex and I do agree it was just because he played a bald bad guy. It's kinda like every time a kick ass female character is in a movie it is "She has to be Wonder Woman/Captain Marvel/insert superhero here". People just link the similarities in their heads

Yeah you're probably right. Looks aren't everything or so they say. I wonder if, with the way Lex was written, Eisenberg was on the top of their list.

I swear I read somewhere that they actually changed their vision for Lex a bit to fit with Jesse.

Not sure, but I seem to remember Joaquin Phoenix being considered. Same with Adam Driver.

But I wasnt following things that closely

They did. I believe Snyder said that they "tweaked" the script a bit after Snyder sat down to meet with him for a different role. I don't know what his definition of tweaked is (nor do I know for sure that's the word he used :o), but I think it's safe to assume that Lex was always meant to be eccentric. If so, the degree and manner of his eccentricity was probably changed a bit to suit Eisenberg's strengths.

Wasn't it revealed that they were actually courting Joaquin Phoenix for the role, but he ultimately turned it down.

What role did they want Jesse for originally?

Umm no, not really. We've seen him acting differently across both the trailers. So people aren't just pulling this out of nowhere, they're looking at the available evidence.

And I cannot help but feel like the above argument is an attempt by some to try and dismiss people with a different viewpoint by misrepresenting/ignoring where said viewpoint comes from.

You can quote me on this one, the hallway one is a fakeout. The only word that really overlaps with Lex's shot is "America".

Yeah, it's similar to some people complaining about Batman cracking a joke (which he DOES do from time to time in the comics and other media). For fans, they seem to not know all that much about these characters and their history. They act like one particular take on them is the ONLY way that they've ever been portrayed, and that's simply not the case.

And actually he didn't really crack a joke, it just came across funny.

Which I like. As I said in Ben Affleck thread, this Batman is supposed to interact more with other crime fighters than we're used to see in a live action. It's going to be interesting.

Not a fan of the pre 86 mad scientist approach so whether it's comic accurate or not, I dont like it.

And there are a lot of things show up pre crisis or even pre 2000s that just because they happened doesn't mean some fans would like to see them.
