BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 10

Can you provide something on this?? Luthor has NEVER been played as cheerful or glad-handing!! Wow......you guys will say anything to pad your argument for these silly portrayals (especially this new one) ......Luthor has always been seriously bitter toward Superman.....motivations may have changed thru the years. But he aint never been cheerful. Even Luthor in Smallville was serious........he got even more sinister as the seasons progressed.

Yes, he has. At public functions, Lex Luthor is often depicted as cheerful, outgoing, friendly, talkative, etc. Most notably in the early to late nineties, but also through his campaign to rebuild No Man's Land, his run for President and subsequent public facade. He has tried to pass himself off as the consummate host. There are hints of this "duplicity" in "reformed" versions of the Silver Age Lex Luthor, but it began in earnest in the MAN OF STEEL era...a charismatic and compassionate portrayal of Luthor as a public facade for his true, darker nature. LOIS & CLARK and SMALLVILLE incorporated this aspect of the modern Luthor as well.

Even as a villain, he's often depicted as a charismatic, talkative fellow. In more recent Justice League comics, he tries to be friendly and witty around the League at points to throw them off.

I wouldn't call Hackman or Spacey bad in their portrayals at all; and campy doesn't really describe the ability both had to take their earlier humor and contrast it with utterly terrifying moments later.

It's more that both were, at the end of the day, kind of small scale villains. Yeah, they both plot to murder millions of people... But they want to do it for money and land, and honestly, Superman's more subject to the script in both their plans than anything else. They're not really a threat once they're plans are defeated. Spacey's thugs were memorable, but just thugs. Nothing more.

To be fair, the only truly memorable Luthor henchpeople have bee Mercy (who's in this movie), Miss Tessmacher/Otis (for the wrong reasons). BTW I've always thought that a lot of Kal Penn's material probably got cut out of SR.

I wonder what Mercy Graves will be like in the film. Android, Amazon, or normal human? Personally a rogue Amazon would be pretty neat.

Honestly, Lex to me came across as slightly creepy, fake and a bit of a tool. Some little rich kid that thinks he can change the world.

This interpretation was indeed not what i was expecting. Bearing in mind that really serious in tone image of a bald lex, blankly staring at the camera.

I'm hoping - at worst, he is two people. Behind closed doors, that cold, calculated *******. To the public, the jerk we saw. Anything less i will be disappointed.

I thought we were going to get this serious interoperation where he is a quick witted, yet evil man that tries to be 'nice' in public but we know better.

Seeing this - i would have preferred Billy Zane doing his usual Billy Zane impression.

Actually it was. It was Luthor in a cloned body pretending to be his offspring.

Luthor decides to fake his own death by piloting a prototype jet on a proposed trip around the world and crashing it in the Andes; this is merely a cover for the removal of his brain from his cancer-ridden body and the growth of a cloned body around it, whereupon he passes himself off as his hitherto unknown, illegitimate 21-year-old son and heir, Lex Luthor II.

I don't know what "The Eisenberg guy" means. I don't find what he does in the trailer particularly goofy, and I don't see anything Luthor says to them in the trailer as something another actor could not say in a similar manner. Some of you seem to just dislike Jesse Eisenberg and the way he talks in certain roles.

My point, which you have apparently glossed over, is that Luthor has been shown to be a talkative, friendly fellow in public before. It masks his darker side. There's a precedent for this. In terms of the less robust, skinnier and younger Luthor, there's a precedent for that, too.

That was Lex. Lex faked his death and came back in the guise of his own son as a way to stave off death since he was dying of cancer from exposure to Kryptonite. This was during the Carlin era of the Supman comics.

I think it's going to be something special as the DCCU moves forward. Can't wait.

Okay... This is a collection of Jesse's dialogue from the teaser to this last trailer not including the humorous section of Lex meeting Bruce and Clark.

I think it would be fair to say that, no... that party scene is not the full story of Lex in this film nor is it indicative of the one note his portrayal will be for the entirety of the film. Or am I being too even handed in not jumping to that conclusion given the existence of evidence to the contrary?

Thoughts? Also it is curious how there has been either some changes or expansions in dialogue from the teaser to now, and of course the tricks inherent in editing blockbuster trailers, both of which indicates we don't have a full picture on Lex. While being dialogue I can see coming from any version of Lex when actually hearing them n the trailers can you all honestly say they ALL come off as "camp" or similar to Hackman or Spacey as Lex?

From what the trailers gather This Lex comes off like a younger version of Hackmans Lex Luthor personality wise. Kind of like if this movie was called the Justice Kids and Lex was a teenager. is that good or bad i dunno i have to see the movie.

The delivery on all those lines are "campy" or what have you? I'll grant the smugness of "Red capes..." is a bit OTT but then I think he's mocking someone at that moment. But none of the others sound serious and are "campy" instead? Sorry, I just don't see it at all and I think the other ones are a strong contrast to the humor of the party scene.

It's not campy. It's just...I don't even know what to be honest, I just feel like they could be delivered better. Mostly the "devil will do it" line. I loved his delivery of the "Now we know don't we..." line in the teaser, Jesse actually sounded like he was Lex.

Part of the reason I found it jarring is because this was different than the Lex I was expecting. Especially, since they seemed to downplay the comic book elements when discussing their approach.

Every line outside of the humor in the party was like a Burton/Schumacher Bat film? Every line? You see... I don't even buy that you think that. It's fankly a position more over the top than anything Jesse does in the party scene.
