BvS Jimmy Olson (spoilers)

Yeah, I will say this may be the one really negative thing I can say about the film (or at least, the one thing I can think of at the moment). Snyder's decision to just throw away this character like that was just, really DUMB. It's not a fun little thing for fans to wink wink at; it's stupidity. Jimmy Olsen is not a minor character or a mere Easter Egg. He happens to be one of Clark's closest friends and colleagues! If you don't have room for him in the movie, then don't include him at all!

This is where I almost wish I just didn't come to these forums.

I'd have never known. I'd have lived in blissful ignorance, and would it really have mattered that I didn't know? Probably not.

If his name is listed in the end credits (which I'm assuming it is), then we all would've found out sooner or later unfortunately.

If it's not, then there may be hope. But knowing Snyder, it's probably there. :csad:

I just don't get the logic. We don't know what to do with this character so instead of just leaving him out altogether til we do, let's just brutally murder him and call it an Easter egg for the fans.

It's the same logic that lead to the rest of the movie.

It's the logic that Snyder knows better what to do with this character than fans and 75 years of history.

It's a complete lack of respect and understanding.

Yeah I wouldn't have noticed that... maybe if I was browsing IMDB or something, but even then I'd have probably thought it was an IMDB error :funny:

It's a shame that
CIA guy was Jimmy Olson. Would've liked to see him in the Superman solo at the Daily planet with Lois and crew. No idea why they made him a CIA guy though.

Well if they decided to change things. They can always use my theory. That guy was a CIA agent who was pretending to be Jimmy Olsen so he could infiltrate the rebels.

That's not the point. I doubt many fans even care about Jimmy being in these movies. It's Snyder's mentality. This total and complete lack of understanding and reverence of these characters. He doesn't give a **** unless it looks cool. That's what people have a problem with.

But then how did Lois not know he wasn't the real Jimmy?

And if Jimmy wasn't a photographer at the Planet, why would the CIA agent use his name?

This is the equivalent of J Jonah Jameson getting shot in the head in the first ten minutes.

Or Pepper Pots. Or Bucky. Or Wally West. Or Robin. Or Steve Trevor.

Do I have to go on?

Where are all these people who are supposedly labeling Snyder as a "genius"?

I'm guessing Jimmy did work with Lois at the Daily Planet for some time (before MoS), and then got a job at the CIA. Jimmy clearly knows Lois well, so he was sent on the mission in Africa with her.

Snyder's approach feels very much like what he did with Watchmen. There's a history there, it's just off screen. It's the same thing with Robin. Robin's dead, but it doesn't mean he was "thrown away".

I think people take the movie at face value and think "That's it?", but really, there's just more not in the film. I feel like that's the general problem with the movie for people. Everything needs to be spelled out.

What I'm HOPING will happen (but it probably won't), is that there is non-film media (animated series, comics, novels) that explore all this stuff that happened in the past like Star Wars. That would be cool as hell. Actually make an expanded universe that shows Jimmy's history with Lois before BvS, and so on.

But . . . the movie totally sucked bro, blah blah blah.

If the story of a movie requires you to go away and read/watch something else to understand or appreciate it, then that movie has FAILED.

Mate...

I'm sick of people filling Snyder's plot holes for him and claiming people are too stupid to understand. I have posted three gaping plot holes in the "Unabashed Spoiler Thread". If you can explain them and why I'm stupid for thinking they exist...I'll admit the movie was good.

As far the backstory...the whole idea of Jimmy being a CIA operative is stupid. I don't care if we get a Jimmy Olsen spin-off where we see him go through the academy and rise to the rank of "fake photograph spy extraordinar". It's a dumb idea from a man who made a dumb movie.

EDIT

Here's my three huge plot holes right off the top of my head. Please tell me what I missed because it wasn't spelt out for me.

1. Lois has no idea about Doomsday and certainly no idea he is a Kryptonian when she goes back to get the spear. In fact, Lois doesn't even know what kryptonite is or what the spear is made of;

2. Batman sends Diana an email while he is on the battlefield waiting for Superman (!). When this is all starting, she is out in public and while only minutes pass, she is suddenly at home in a completely different outfit, relaxing and checking her emails;

3. Lex Luthor's plan makes no sense. He kidnaps Martha to get Superman to kill Batman and makes it sound like he'll be filming it...all so he can ruin Superman's reputation - this implies he knows Batman is going to want to fight Superman. But how? All he knows is that it looks like Batman stole the Kryptonite, but how does he know this wasn't to destroy it to keep his buddy Clark safe? And how did he know in advance where Batman would be setting up the fight or when?

So Star Wars is a huge failure. Got it.

See my post below yours.

The very idea of people defending this trash by implying those are too dumb to understand it is just adding insult to injury when it is one of the least logical, stupidest movies I have ever seen.

The plot is incredibly easy to follow. The problem is the movie is not. The fact the editing created a car-wreck out of a simple plot seems to have confused you into thinking the plot was deep and profound.

It was not.

It was a poor-mans Nolan storyline.

Couldn't care less about this really. It's just another inconsequential thing for people to rip Snyder about.

Jimmy is an important supporting character in Superman lore; I would hardly call killing him in his only appearance is inconsequential. Especially since it was so unnecessary, too. Literally nothing is gained by this being Jimmy.

It's the same as if that was Lana Lang or Pete Ross getting blown away in that scene. Or Selina Kyle. Or Leslie Thompkins. Or Jim Gordon. I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch about it because it's really just a weird choice in a film that has much larger issues to talk about, but yeah, it's pretty dumb.
