JL Casting Call Update

How is a post about the schedule of a possible Superman contender for JLA worse than posts going back and forth arguing what belongs in a thread out the JLA movie?
It's because he doesn't want Welling in the movie. I posted that to show an article backing up that Welling becomes a free agent, and the studio is eyeing him for Supes. I think he is just trying to get it out of the thread as he doesn't want Welling as Supes. But when Welling is signed, I bet we will hear hell from this guy.

Rumors are Rumors. Like it or not, the original Welling rumors may have been shot down, but they certainly never died.
Unless you have proof that Welling is not now/never was under consideration, this rumor is a relevant as any other.
Until an official cast list is released it's anyone's guess.
True, though I think the only actors who we can pretty much believe being cast are Brody, Palmer, and Common.

I wasn't aware having 2 disagreeing replies was considered arguing.

:whatever:
If you knew anything about how I felt about Welling, you'd know this wouldn't be the case.

But this tidbit doesn't relate to JL at all.
Yes, it does, indirectly of course. It's telling you that SV is over for the season by a certain date. Done. Finito. Th... th... that's all folks.

I'm not btching and moaning that you posted it here but don't try passing it off as something JL-related, when the Welling rumors were debunked not too long after the MSN rumor started. :whatever:
Gough debunked the rumor that Welling was being eyed for the film because Welling simply wasn't available. Gough noted VERY specifically that Welling was contracted to SV for eight seasons. He simply can't be in two places at the same time. But the strike has now changed all that, hence the resurgence in rumors. Welling is a free agent come February and the SV producers can't do jack about it. IF any of the rumors that MSN started and IESB drove home are true, and both Warners and Welling are still interested, Welling could very well end up being Miller's Superman in JL.

The rumors are actually being exacerbated by Welling's own management, who have been saying "no comment" for weeks. If he's no longer an option, it would be a pretty easy thing to say "Nope, he's not involved," like Lady M's Jonathan Rhys Meyers' casting rumors-gone-wild situation. But no, Welling's own management keep saying no comment. You do the math. (General "you," not you specifically, Wally.)

Until an official cast list is released it's anyone's guess.
I'd be happy with an official announcement the film is actually happening, but I fear we won't even get that, which makes kitty sad. :(

AgentPat, if Welling is Superman in JLA, do you think they should base JLA off of Smallville continuity or have its own continuity? Please, for all things holy, do not say JLA's Welling Superman should have a vague history/continuity. We all know how that turned out for Singer. :down Would it bother you at all that Welling is Superman in the JLA movie and Lex would be played by an actor other than Rosenbaum? (If Lex is even in the movie)

so i was wondering i thought palmer was still with topher grace or did they break up recently?

I was actually listening to a very popular Australian radio station (104.1 in Sydney) and they were interviewing an Australian actress about her supposed "relationship" with Adam Brody and she revealed that he's in Australia rehearsing for a movie they are going to shoot. When asked about whether it's the movie where Megan Gale (Australian supermodel) is Wonder Woman and whether the movie has an "invisible plane" in it, she was pretty coy and said they we'll find out soon enough.

some food for though

Nope. As much as I re-heeeeely like Rosenbaum's portrayal, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I actually prefer that Lex NOT be in the film. He's kind of played out, y'know? If they made a SV film, then yes. Gotta have Lex, and he's gotta be played by MR. But for JL? Nah.

As to the vague history, I say just start fresh. I wouldn't want the plot to be affected in ANY way by any previous version. That said, it would be nice if they threw in a cute reference or homage. Nothing plot intrinsic mind you, just a nod. To be honest, I was disappointed that Singer completely ignored SV and its fans in that way. I felt he snubbed us, and that just wasn't cool. The Kent mailbox aint an homage, Bryan.

But I wouldn't worry about any connection to SV beyond the common Superman mythology, with or without Welling. If there's any truth to the bad blood rumors, they won't touch that poop with a ten foot pole. The only thing that makes Welling even an option right now is the strike.

I still don't think this movie is going to end up coming out in 2009, nevermind 2010. If it does come out, I would go pick up Welling myself and get him to Australia over the cast rumors we have heard.

I thought the heat vision in SR was supposed to be a nod to Smallville?

hmm i thought palmer was with topher grace as i was asking a few times, i dont remember ever hearing they broke up. Who knows, maybe they are maybe they arnt.

I thought the heat vision in SR was supposed to be a nod to Smallville?
LOL! That wasn't a nod; that was an upgrade. :p

By nods and homages, I'm talking about small little rinky dink things that only fans pick up on. Things that have zero bearing on the film's plot or characterizations, but put a smile on our faces nonetheless simply because they're there...

  • A one-liner from Lex about fencing, his bipolar father, or the family preference for Highland scotch.
  • A snarky comment from Kitty about Lex managing another "crap factory" when he's not plotting to rule the world.
  • A small collection of family pictures seen in the background on Lois' desk - Jason, Richard, an old man in military fatigues smoking a cigar, a blonde woman in a business suit...

Silly stuff like that. You can have 100% separation between continuities and franchises but still throw fans a bone. Not that any of those things would have made SR a better film mind you; I'm just saying... ;)

Not everybody thinks Smallville is all that AgentPat.
And your point is? It's a popular show about Superman, albeit the younger, pre-suited version. I think SR was about Superman too. SV changed a better part of its story and continuity in order to fit in with Singer's film. You'd THINK Singer would have thrown SV fans a bone? Nope. Didn't happen.

But hey. Water under the bridge. We were talking hypothetically about JL, so lets get back to that. I gave examples of how simple homages could be used from SV w/o being intrinsic to the film itself. Nods such as those don't change the structure or meaning of a film, unlike a "vague history," which Flawless mentioned, that end up becoming dependent upon them.

According to Rob, Armie Hammer is pretty talkative and says to "everybody" that he is Batman. According to this new so-called "insider" (forgot his name), Rob is not in the loop. Emi is reporting Hammer may be a villain in this movie.

So then, if I were WB and I wanted to do a "Bay" (spread false rumors), I'd aproach one of the guys casted as badguy and ask him if he would spread the word that he is playing Batman. That would explain why Hammer is telling people he is Batman (when he has signed a contract to keep his mouth shut). He's throwing people off.

Or maybe he just is the god-damn Batman ^^

Soon we will find out if the movie will go ahead. Let's hope this JLA banter was worth our time.

Hmm. I wonder if this update at DVD Active for the DTV Justice League: The New Frontier (they added the front and back artwork for the HD-DVD and Blu-ray releases) is an indication that WB will give JL the greenlight?

Or that could be done to placate the outcry if JL were to be delayed until after the WGA strike, should the WB announce that.

Wow, thats a slight bit of a stretch. My cheerios this morning formed the letters JL, I think thats a sign the movie is getting the greenlight.:woot:

Well, it could be a hint as to where the WB is going with the JL film. It's a bit of a stretch, but maybe by tomorrow we'll know what's going to happen.

I don't think it means anything, but I am excited about New Frontier.

What are you talking about man lol? You think vague history/continuity did in SR? Try the lack of a superpowered threat, the lack of fight scene, the addition of a kid and a romantic interest for Lois who was somewhat likeable other man, and the fact that after almost 30 years we got another film of Superman flying around saving planes, and people from earthquakes while stoping another Lex Luthor relestate sheme.

I doubt people noticed much that some continuity issues arose, hell ignoring Superman III and IV was one of the few things Singer did right.

lol. We usually don't see things eye to eye regarding this film. But that made me laugh. :)

Oh no, I totally agree with you. Vague history/continuity didn't do in SR, and it was probably the least of its problems. Everything you mentioned is spot on, I just wished they would have started fresh with the movie instead of quasi connecting it to Donner's films.
