JL Casting Call Update

Not positive about the supporting roles but the 7 member Justice League team is 100% right. Jay Baruchel was the first name mentioned after that so I would say that he is playing more than just a henchman.

No f'n way DJ is playing Supes. No way.
Sorry... how do you get off saying 100% sure?

Unless your "friend" is George Miller, I find this doubtful.

I will personally kneel at your feet, the world as my witness, if DJ is Superman. If you're wrong, you have to suck something of mine (what could it be? You won't know until it's revealed that you're full of shiesse...)

Seriously, adding a name to the list doesn't make you right about the rest of the list... your list still hasn't accounted for the fact that someone rejected an offer... everyone on this list was part of the original rumors... who walked according to your "inside source"?

Just FYI, there is another "insider" at the Superherohype boards who claims the script is "nowhere near ready to shoot." Hopefully we can get more confirmation on this. (Emi, hint, hint). He claims to know someone high up with the movie. Outside of the one or two individuals who have given us information, these "insiders" are really pissing me off. Nine times out of time they are full of crap!

I know I've had my share of bad info on this film (Thanks Lady M!), but the script for this film was near perfect from the time it was turned in. They went through 4 rewrites (adding in Martian Manhunter and tweaking things here and there) and George Miller himself has said it will begin filming as scheduled. Not to mention 3 of the rumored cast members are currently in Austraila with no specific purpose being given to the public. So that in itself should say this is a done deal. I can pretty much guarantee that my #1 and only 100% trusted source is way higher than whomever this other person knows. I'd bet a case of 1999 Cristal on it.

So does this mean that Welling is still in it? Is that what she's saying? :cmad:

I am telling you that I know for a fact that the script is not ready to be filmed. The budget is not big enough for what is in it at the moment. I'm sure that Miller will find a way around it but the strike is making things difficult. I don't care if you don't believe me and I don't have tons of info on the film but I am close to someone working fairly high up on it. Whenever I see this person I want to sit there asking a million nerdy questions about the story and the cast but I feel stupid doing it if the only conversation we have is about Justice League. The same way that it was when he worked on Superman Returns and The Matrix sequels ... no matter how much I want to say how lame the cast is etc. I feel rude doing it.

Also I remember being on the IMDB boards back in 2001 and no one believed me that the Matrix Reloaded script ended with To Be Continued. I don't have any reason to lie and I don't have to prove anything I am just letting you know what I know. If I was gonna make something up I would come up with something better than what I have said.

I revealed who is playing MM just be grateful that you have something new.

How does the strike affect the budget? Your logic doesn't make sense -- obviously they went forward with a script and a prescribed budget, otherwise they wouldn't be casting and booking studios. It makes no sense that they would get a great script that got this far, start casting it, and find out after the fact that there's not enough money to cover it. You make the financial decisions before casting -- that's part of the budgeting process. If you don't know who or what you can afford, how can you cast people or hire people to work on a movie?

Now, if you're saying that Miller wants things that are in excess of the script, or even to do things bigger that what is in the script (and your sources are right) -- then I have even higher hopes for the film because I know then that he's hyped and willing to push things to the max to deliver a wicked product.

Obviously, if the script is over budget (which makes no sense because they haven't started shooting, and they have to have had a budget before casting and booking), then all they do is hire some production consultants to work on tweaks to the script. This is happening on EVERY movie that's rolling. Every movie that rolls has tweaks made along the way -- obviously someone is making the changes when changes are made.

So what are you saying your "high up source" is saying? That the movie isn't going to film? Your source is out of a job? The movie is on the backburner?

Which is still suspect -- the reps for that guy from Hellboy denounced his (sorry ass') involvement immediately; TW's reps denounced his involvement for Superman Returns immediately.
There is no "can" or "can't" with this -- there is only "want to" and "don't want to."
My question is why don't they want to confirm or deny?
Either their client is so lame that they need this ridiculous publicity, or they want to avoid negative fallout for their client in the case that the client was attached (or auditioned) and didn't make the cut.
Hehe. Okay, I'll play along...

Some schmo (my apologies to Emi) calling every week asking the same question isn't going to garner Welling any more publicity than he already has. He's pretty well known as it is. Much to his fan's chagrin, he avoids press conferences, rarely does interviews, and hardly ever makes official public appearances unless it's some big shindig for the network. And judging from his expressions in covertly taken paparazzi photographs, the man probably wishes he could spark up heat vision on command just like his character LOL. So I think we can safely rule out his desire for more publicity.

His reps won't confirm his being in negotiations for a role if he's technically not available to do it. See Al Gough's comments. Welling is contracted to SV through season eight. Sponsors need to be assured of that or they might not buy ad time.

The WGA strike is an interesting conundrum, however, and that could change things. Because if Welling's contract to SV prevented him from being in the film - assuming he was even asked - then that monkey wrench will no longer be an issue after January if the WGA strike has not been resolved by that time. SV will have passed the point of no return to shoot any more episodes post episode 15. That ep will serve as the season finale until they can resume in July - assuming the actors aren't on strike at that point too.

The looming SAG strike, which is set for June 2008, pretty much means JL has to start shooting by March at the latest. If they delay principal beyond that, they risk not being able to finish in time.

So my question isn't really why Welling's reps keep saying "no comment," though I do find that funny. No, my question is, if the script for JL is done and the main cast was finalized back in November, why hasn't there been an announcement yet? ;)

I know. I was got this piece from your post. What do you want? A medal? Credit?

WB has a history of announcing cast as a whole(Watchmen), and doing it about a week before films start rolling(Speed Racer), so what there doing with JL is not out of the norm. They are probably just waiting for the best time to do it. For those of you who said, that the hype for this movie has died down because they didn't confirm anything, what hype do you need when this movie isn't even scheduled to come out in 08?

Regarding Welling, I guess he does have to find some work now since Smallville won't be coming back, so there is one possibility why we haven't heard anything yet! :cwink:

So now, there is a SAG strike in June of 2008 and filming must be completed by then? Geez.

You know, that is getting old. I hope you're not hating on the guy with making fun of his names like that. :p
Hating on the guy? Nah. I didn't mean to offend. Was just a silly joke. Sorry.

That's wrong. Emil Hirsch was officially announced as Speed in March of 2007. Filming for the movie started in June of 2007. The rest of the cast members such as John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Christina Ricci were officially announced in April of 2007.

But isn't JL a little out of those films' league? SR was announced in October, four months before they began principal.

so what there doing with JL is not out of the norm.
For a film its size, I dunno 'bout that.

They are probably just waiting for the best time to do it.
Indeed. LOL

That point hasn't happened yet. If the WGA strike is resolved in the next two weeks (fat chance, but ya never know), then SV will pick right back up.

Also, I'm not sure how much Welling *needs* to find work between February and July. He makes a couple million dollars a year from SV alone, so he's probably living pretty comfortable. His wanting a specific role is a different story however, so nobody can know where he stands on that until he's cast.

So now, there is a SAG strike in June of 2008 and filming must be completed by then? Geez.
I thought that was the whole reason behind starting principal in February?

When Sanchez started talking about Welling back in August, that was pretty much the lynch pin in it happening or not. They needed to work around Welling's schedule, because they couldn't wait for him to be done with SV. The film had to start shooting early so they'd be done by the time the SAG strike started. Gough put the kibosh on everything when he said it wasn't happening because Welling was contracted to SV.

It's such a bizarre situation, because I don't think anybody knew the writers would strike early. They weren't supposed to go on strike till next year.

This is why I keep saying we'll know soon, because if they can't start by March at the latest (my educated guess), then they WONT start until after the SAG strike is over, assuming it even happens. Everything is up in the air at that point, which is fitting considering it's a superhero film LOL.

How come every casting rumor we've gotten for JL has just been s*** sandwich after s*** sandwich? I mean, who the hell are Armie Hammer and Megan Gale?! Get some real actors, huh?

Well miller says he wants unknowns for the roles, yes i wish better/named actors where going to be in the film.

I wish actual actors who have acted before, big or decent sized roles, are cast.

yea i wish that to, but it is not really up to us. The director has his vision he wants to go with and all that. now we may not like who ends up being the heroes but we should not judge them so harshly right now untill we know more on what is actually happening.

Thats a really GREAT coment :D seriously, thanks for give me something great to read pal

No!!! did I sound like that? sorry I wasnt sound like that, Im totally agree with what you said, Im tired to hear a lot of complaining and youre post is diferent!

ah ok, yea myself i may not like some of the rumor names like hammer for example when his name first poped up i didnt like it cause i found out he is only 21 yrs old, but now i am more open to him with seeing more pics, and some clips of him he is tall has a deep voice and just really needs to bulk up a little bit if he is bats. Then there is others who are totally wrong for roles like Dj Cotrona. But if people i dont like do end up as certain roles i will wait to judge them more once we have set photos, costume shots, and some actual footage of them.

I honestly believe someone at the main rumor control got Cotrona and Hammer mixed up for Batman and Superman.

probably but still dont really want DJ in the film at all well for supes or bats. And if he is supes i will be disapointed a little but as i said will wait to judge him more once we see set photos, in suit photos and footage.

He's really not that bad of a rumored name. I agree that we all want Bat's to be older, but we just got to get over that, because it's obvious we're not getting it.

yea i would love if in the film bats/supes/barry are early to mid 30s, ww late 20s(looking), wally early 20s, green lantern early 30s, aquaman mid 20s-mid 30s, and mm can be what ever counting on what they want his john jones image to look like.
