JL Casting Call Update

According to Infamous Emijayne on the IESB boards, they're in talks with Welling for the role of Superman in JLA.

Ha! I believe it to! Like I said before, before its all said and done Welling is going to play Supes in this movie. I think the WB knows that he is by far the person peeps want to see play the role, myself included. I think they'll throw the bank at him to get him in the tights. I just feel bad for Routh cuase he's the odd man out and it wasn't his fault for the movie disappointing at the box office. At least he was signed for a 3 movie deal so he'll get paid to walk.

Wow, I've been away for a week, and today is the fifth day (in my timezone) of 2008, and still no official words on JL?

Is this movie, like, the most hyped non-confirmed movie in history, or what?

They may be SAG actors and shoot their scenes from February to June.

But if it's true that WB is waiting for the writers strike to end before they make their next move(cast announcements, beginning of filming), and the writers strike goes past February, then this project is really screwed.

I'd be thrilled if Welling is announced. I disliked the Smallville JL actors but the premise was a good one. Let the 7 years of Smallville stand as an "unofficial" prequel to the new movie Superman mythos. You could sell those Smallville box sets for decades WB! Jump full throttle into a Justice League movie like Clark has bee Superman-ning for a couple of years and get beyond origin stories. The movie director for solo Superman films wouldn't have to be tied to Smallville, but there is plenty of good things there to use as a template if he/she so chooses. I think Joe Public, fans, kids, men, and women would all respond well to this choice instead of yet another actor. Last but not least, I think his casting would bring stability to this JL film, perceived to be lacking it, and recognition to a fairly lackluster cast.

Yea but we dont really know if the strike has affected the script and their starting date. For all we know the problem could have been casting all along.

Unlike Singer, who had a pay or play deal, Routh was merely optioned for sequels. I don't think Routh even had a pay or play for the FIRST film, never mind SR's sequels. If Warners chooses not to option Routh for a sequel, that's it. He's history. His contract supposedly does not include pay or play provisions. I don't know *any* actor who would get that kind of contract before doing the FIRST film, and that's the only contract Routh signed - unless there's a report elsewhere that I've missed?

I still question whether a JL film will actually happen given the WGA strike, but I'm glad to see the SR chapter finally being closed for Superman. I doubt Warners will make any official announcement on SR or its sequels, though Singer might make a statement of his intent to leave the franchise, much like his writers have already done. Hopefully, that time will come sooner rather than later so everybody can move on. And hopefully, JL *will* happen, and the actor cast as Supes will do "justice" to the role and any potential spin-offs.

*crosses fingers*

All this stuff is from the same source. The same one that back in Dec 2006 told me Singer would do Valkyrie, Castro Street, and a third film and ultimately leave Superman which has pretty much all happened now. The same one that told me in Feb 2007 that WB would be green lighting JLA and looking at Welling, not Routh, which for the most part has been proven as well. This is the same source that I said before I trust with my life. True, she was lead to believe prior to the strike that Welling was not going to happen, but since the strike didn't end on Dec 3rd and Smallville will end with only 15 episodes instead of 23, they held off signing the person who Miller picked. She isn't 100% positive that Welling will sign, but she said the offer is one that not many people would turn down. Just the fact they restarted the negotiations was big news for me.

As for when it would be announced, it depends. As most people know, actors were still joining The Dark Knight and Indiana Jones 4 after filming began. The big thing is JLA will start on time, period. It's one thing for a director to say things are on schedule a year or so out, but with a month left Miller insists it's a go and I know people are still working on the sets.

Welling is in, Welling is out, Welling is back in again... sigh...

isn't there suppose to be a Dan Lin announcement, like soon?

no i think u mean jeff robinov who became the new wb president back on tues. Lin i thought i read he left warners to start up his own company or something.

yeah, thats what I meant, just switched the names :whatever:

I mean what possible reason is for them to put it off?:woot:

If Wb is scraping Routh in future solo films for the JLA superman, I would say Tom Welling is more than likely getting the role. I can't imagine the studio having that kind of confidence in anyone else at this point. There is no way if DJ was cast that he has impressed enough to inspire that kind of confidence.

DJ will be playing ROBIN I am telling you! Welling back in? Holy Hanna!

yea, i would rather have welling in this/possible future solo films. Only thing would then be would this/future solo film be connected to smallville or be separate.

Well you can cross Eva Green off the list...

http://www.evagreenweb.com/

Thanks to Eva’s management, I can now officially say that Eva has no interest or involvement whatsoever in “Justice League of America”. She has no films to announce as yet. There’s no official word yet on whether New Line will proceed with the next Dark Materials film, but they think they’d shoot the 2nd and 3rd film together if they go for it.

I feel like Retro....

yea that sucks about eva should would have been a good talia i think. Well atless we can mark off someone.

WW no, Talia hell yes.... Honestly the second she started talking about it, she give us the clue she wasn't going to be in JLA. Thats how things are working with this movie. Like the Scott Portor, route...

I think Eva Green would be beter suited for a Christian Bale-Batman flick.

As for Justice League, I would like to see Routh have another go and be cast, but I think Welling would be a better choice. The Smallville universe has a great Lex and Lois (not to mention Supergirl for a future movie) already cast. That takes alot of the headache out the casting decisions for the new movie. It would lo be good marketing on Warner Brothers part for Smallville DVD sales.

Not saying it's fair, but in the WB's eyes Welling's superman(clark) has been a success -7 seasons, and one of the only things the CW has going for it, and Routh's Superman was a failure - luke warm fan reaction, controversial plot points, and most of all a very disapointing box office in comparrison to the budget.

Routh not being included in JL is nothing new, that was clear months ago...I feel bad that he is losing out on the solo films, If his character hadn't been saddled with a horrible plot twist, and he was given at least one fight scene (using kryptonite to allow him to be beaten by thugs doesn't count) things would be much different now...

If i where Jeff Robinov, i would keep Brandon Routh making other movies and wait Batman trilogy end. Then, i would make a new contract with both, for three superhero movies.

George Miller would Stick in direction, The screenplay of Kiernan and Michelle Mulroney could go to, but whe would have Routh and Bale, and we would't even mess up Batman movies, because Nolan is going to end things in the third.

Then, i would cast some actor. Some GOOD actor. Victoria Hill for Wonder-Woman would be great. I Can see Mark Valley as Barry Allen and Scott Porter as Wally West. Common can remain as Green Lantern. Rusty Joiner for Aquaman and Doug Jones for Martian Manhunter.

If Mel Gibson accept it, he would be my Maxwell Lord. Eva Green is PERFECT for Talia and why not call Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor?
