Joe Wright to Helm 'Pan'

Meanwhile, Disney is sitting on their own Peter Pan prequel (not related to the classic animated film), 'Peter and the Starcatchers'. It's based on a popular Young Adult series and Gary Ross is currently attached to direct.

But Disney is just sitting on it. Then again, Disney is sitting on many projects due to Marvel and Star Wars.

Wasn't the 2004 version that admittedly nobody saw (which is a shame) very faithful?

I also really enjoyed the movie Hook. But I know that I am in the minority.

I thought Pan 03 was great, but I absolutely love Hook. Every bit of it.

Peter Pan '03 is underrated. I'm looking forward to this because it's a Joe Wright film.

At first I was like ugggg another Pan film, why? But it's Joe Wright and that makes it a must see for me.
Bardem for Blackbeard is intriguing. Makes me wonder whats in store.

The Phantom Report: Warner Bros’ Peter Pan Prequel “PAN” Loses a Hook and Blackbeard

We have learned exclusively that Javier Bardem, eyed for the part of Blackbeard has actually passed on the role. No word as to why or if it’s a ‘scheduling conflict’ but as of now, the news is this: Bardem is out. So the search for Blackbeard continues.
Speaking of Blackbeard…. What about Hook? Well, we have some news there as well. Not making it into the trades is the fact that none other than Ryan Gosling was offered the role of Hook. I am assuming they are looking for a younger version of the iconic one handed pirate that would then lead to future movies where he is the main baddie. So it’s obvious, Warners Bros is looking for a new franchise of Neverland movies….

Ryan Gosling always seems to turn down "big" movies so I wouldn't be surprised if he passes on this. He was close with Logan's Run. Wonder what his first "big" film will be.

They should expand the Peter Pan universe in the sequels. Maybe give vague hints about other fantasy realms. Not mention them by name, though, because of copyright issues.
How about my idea?

He's way too young; it's like asking Josephn Gordon Levitt to play Blackbeard. You need someone in their 40s vs Pan. The contrast is even greater.

Warner Bros’ ‘Pan’ Gets June 2015 Release Date

We scooped here last month that Joe Wright will direct Pan, the Jason Fuchs-scripted take on the Peter Pan myth that has come together fast at Warner Bros. Now the studio has set a June 26, 2015 release date for the pic, which will be in 3D. In this update, an orphan is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against the evil pirates. Javier Bardem has been offered the lead role of Blackbeard. Greg Berlanti is producing under his Berlanti Productions banner. Sarah Schechter is the executive on the adaptation of the J.M. Barrie tale. Warner Bros also said it is shifting its sci-fi pic Jupiter Ascending from Lana and Andy Wachowski by a week on its 2014 slate — from July 25 to July 18. That moves comes just a couple of days after the studio debuted the trailer for the pic starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.

Couldn't they wait till 2016?

If they release Tarzan in 2015, it would be bananas!

I'm very certain by 2015, we'll have a better idea of how bad the cannibalisation will be, or if it will happen. I can see WB pushing this back to Spring 2016.

The more movies that move into 2015, the more that move out. I don't like it right now, but lets see what happens.

Nope. I can see them moving it to fall, seeing as how Gravity made a summer-sized haul in a usually quiet October. It'd be amusing if they pitted Pan opposite Disney's The Jungle Book.

And WB usually has 3-4 summer pics every year anyway.

Hugh Jackman as a pirate villain? Getting more and more interested in this.

Even in the Variety article, I guess WB still wanted Gosling for the Hook role. Still way too young, especially when Jackman and Javier are in their 40's. That works where you can kinda see them as the father-figure/villain.

Love Jackman as a potential villain. He needs to go there more often.
I'm extremely interested in how Wright is going to approach this. While Anna Karenina was a bit underwhelming the direction and production were truly amazing.
