Joe Wright to Helm 'Pan'

This movie is going to flop so hard. Not wishing for that to happen because I like the director but I believe that it will.

WB is kinda weird right now, and I don't know if it's due to the new Chariman.

When Alan Horn left, Barry Meyer retired, and Jeff Robinov got ousted, it seems like WB is in a flux.

Mad Max was more of a green lit that happened under the old regime. The new regime though, is placing their bets on these public domain properties, like this, Tarzan and King Arthur. I don't know if there's an audience for them (maybe King Arthur if it's done right.)

Yeah they are definitely in flux. I don't get the interest in redoing these old properties, I don't see them succeeding. I think WB will find that out eventually.

I mean, I know that there are some Tarzan fans here on the Hype, but come on. I can't see that making any money unless it was..maybe a March release.

I think that's why WB pushed so hard for JK Rowling to OK (and write) 'Fantastic Beasts'. They're looking for alternatives to their comic book movies, and they're struggling. Look at Akira, which is IMPOSSIBLE to do with a PG-13 rating. It's so..Japanese and weird, so that's why maybe they're testing the waters with 'Death Note' first.

Knew there was trouble the moment they announced Rooney Mara's casting. One of the early red flags.

She's beautiful but it's such an awkward casting choice.

Right now I think Death Note could actually be good but who knows if it has hit potential? We will see.

I think Vile One is right that if they take out too much of the weird stuff, then it's no longer unique, and it'll end up being generic.

I mean, the Old Boy remake kept the same beats of the original, but it ditched the Korean weirdness along the way too. The quirkiness of the original made the taboo more..weirdly disturbing instead of off putting.

Yeah, this just has bomb written all over it. Black Sails has renewed my interest in pirate properties (after POTC killed it) but nothing I've seen from this make me want to see it in a theater. At most, I might Redbox or Netflix it in a few months.

I don't like origin stories like this where the villain was a misguided hero-type, with a tragic flaw or whatever. I guess I can blame the Star Wars prequels or Wicked for that, but often times, I just don't buy it.

That's why I love Hannibal the TV show. He is already established as a psychopath, and it makes the show complex because you wanna like Hannibal as a person. I didn't finish the show yet, but I'm sure they'll establish more of how he became the man that he is today, BUT it's like a total 180.

She's beautiful but it's such an awkward casting choice.

She probably figured, "Oh Joe Wright, he did Anna Karenina and Atonement. There's no way this could be bad."

However, when she was offered Tiger Lily, she should've said no.

Actors need to show more restraint some time and actually read the script. Or get people they trust to actually read the script and not people trying to get 10-20 percent off the top of her payday.

Dude, Kate is currently destroying her right now. Well sure there was Fantastic Four and Lawnmower Man redux, but she has more exposure overall. Thanks to House of Cards? Prior to the show, I always saw her being in the shadow of Rooney but looks like I was wrong.

After Fantastic Four, you have no right to say that. Also, Kate Mara has just a handful of scenes and probably less than 10 minutes of actual screentime in The Martian. She wouldn't even be considered for Best Supporting Actress. It's a minor role.

Yeah I still think Rooney is tops when it comes to the Mara sisters as far as career goes. She has an Oscar nomination and gets better roles in better projects. Kate is still doing really well though.

I'd say Kate is ahead of Rooney right now too. I feel like Rooney is really limiting her potential whether that be because of a lack of roles or it is her own doing. Besides Dragon Tattoo I feel like she hasnt done much of note. That movie Side Effects came out and I heard it was forgettable then she had a small role in Her. I think she's a good actress but idk what is up with her career

I dont see why even bring up Best Supporting Actress. No one said anything about Kate Mara getting a Oscar nod.

On WB: Im very skeptical of Tarzan. The cast and director is good, but it is really weird to me that this comes out next year that and I dont think there has even been a logo or official released image yet. I dont see why it's so under wraps. There obviously still time, but I feel like most movies wouldve provided something by now.

On Pan: From the first trailer I was kinda skeptical. It does look very kid friendly, but other than that I can't really give many compliments from what Ive seen

I get why Rooney Mara signed on to Pan. It's starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Joe Wright, of course she thought there was a possibility of it being good and a hit.

Rooney has Carol coming out next month. The reviews have been excellent and I imagine she's going to be making the awards circuit for best supporting along with Blanchette for Best Actress. I wouldn't worry about her too much.

Sadly it doesn't look good for Pan though.

Actually Side Effects was really good and Rooney delivered a standout performance. I'd recommend it. As for which Mara sister is doing better, I'm not sure, really. Kate seems to get more work, but like others have said, she was barely in The Martian and Fantastic Four might be seen as the biggest bomb of the year.

The reason Rooney Mara's career has stalled is because Dragon Tattoo didn't take off, and the trilogy probably isn't happening anymore.

Yeah. I honestly just think it's not a story that lends itself well to film. The book is great, but I remember reading it and thinking, "How the hell are they going to turn this into an interesting movie? Half of this is just a guy doing research!" I haven't read the sequels, so I don't know if they lend themselves to film better. But I wasn't wowed by either the American or the Swedish adaptations of the first one. I did like Rooney's portrayal of the character better than Rapace's though.

Just noticed that apart from the DC comic stuff, Lego and Fantastic Beast, WB don't have much else in terms an ongoing franchise. Even Universal have more than them these days.
If this will mean more focus and investments in their comic book movies then its all good. Can't wait for that 200 mill dollar budget Aquaman movie.

I never saw it. Im not saying it's bad, but I dont see many people talking about it or speaking that highly of it hence why I said it was forgettable. Which I think it is from what ive seen from the reception

Those are 3 really freaking nice franchises to have though. All of them have a lot of spin off, TV, merchandise, and sequel potential. More than most franchises out there

Universal was in a pretty bad place years ago and they turned things around, it'd just WB's turn. It's a cycle. WB needs to ditch old stories like Tarzan and Pan, ditch the Wachowskis and never let go of Nolan.

I think it's due to the change in the regime and trying to figure things out..I think they're trying to play it safe with movies like Pan, Tarzan, and King Arthur.

I guess you have to admire them for putting up the money for a LIVE ACTION Tarzan tentpole. We haven't had one since what..the 80's.
