With all the crap that Joey Q is doing with Spider-Man. I wanna know how everyone feels. This thread is dedicated to Joey and how he's handling Spider-Man. So, Sins Past/Remembered, The Other, Civil War (Unmasking/Iron Spidey), and now One More Day(He hates the marriage and is trying to seperate MJ and Peter. Mindwipe, recon, whatever:whatever:) Let's here your thoughts on how he handles Spider-Man.

If you ask me...he handles Spidey TERRIBLY!! No respect for the character or the fans themselves, and because he's destroying a major flagship character, does he really deserve the right to be EIC?

Nineteen words:Keep him away from anything involving any of Spider-man's solo titles, but he can continue working on other books.

I've been enjoying the Spidey titles immensely this past year, year and a half..

And i LOVE what's going on with the rest of the Marvel Universe. During Civil War, i'd literally sneak out of work early when each new installment was released, because i couldnt wait to see what would happen next.

Not sure how i'll feel when the dust settles after OMD, but for right, now im a very statisfied fan.

One word.....Death....:cmad:

Whenever I see someone on the internet preaching "death" for a guy who works in comics, it always scares me, because I never quite know whether they're kidding or not. Even as a joke, it's kind of tasteless.

For me personally? I think Joe Q has been a very mixed bag. Some great creators and stories have occurred under his reign, but there's been many events and decisions I'm unhappy about. Overall, I think it's time for him to make way for new blood. But I don't hate him as apparently others do.

Hold on, let me review.

Positives: Hydra arc, Back in Black, Spider-Man Unmasked, Sensational Spider-Man Annual, Civil War, Shush

Negatives: The Other, Sins Past, Peter's organic webbing/The Queen arc in Spectacular, Luke Cage unmasking Norman Osborn, Get Kraven (Vulture becomes a superhero? Alyosha goes to Hollywood? WTF?), One More Day, countless continuity errors in every title

Hmm, while some of the Spider-Stories have been good, when they have been bad, they have been very bad.

Fire him.

How do you know OMD isnt a good story? Have you read it yet?

I'm staying neutral until I know what he will do to Peter and MJ marriage

No sir. :o

I'm just guessing since some plot points seem to have been leaked. The Jackpot character and Peter and MJ seeming split up. True, I shouldnt judge something that I haven read, but I really dont have a good feeling about this.

Yeah, to be honest, im guilty of the same thing. The Jackpot thing just irks me. Even in a "fantasy setting", it just seems wrong to make MJ a superhero after 40 plus years as a civilian...

We'll soon see, i guess.

Whoops! I voted on the wrong one by accident, I think he should stay.

I'm sorry, but I REALLY think your logic is at fault here. Wihle Spidey is our fave, and the flagship character, (at the mo,) I think it'd be stupid to pose this question based on being a Spidey fanboy

While it's clear he doesn't REALLY understand Spider-Man fully, and can REALLY miss the mark, Spider-Man is NOT the be all and the end all of the MU.

The Avengers is now bigger than the X-Men franchise, (which is still huge,) DD/Cap/Hulk/Iron Man and plenty more comics have been rocking for a while, people are buying more and more Marvel titles in the last 10 tears, and people are finding new characters that they like more and more. Luke Cage is a major player in the MU now... Now that's cool!

Spider-Man, Civil War, and Captain America have been in all major news stations/publications/websites all around the (Western,) world. (I don't live in the East, so I can't say about that.) And the storylines are BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY, as a REAL FORM OF ART, in ALL the articles. It's not just being seen as 'kids stuff

Let's not forget about the Ultimate U, I know some people get funny about it, but it has been a MASSIVE critical/commerical success. Various animations/video games/blockbuster films have right off the bat taken elements/artwork/entire storylines from the Ultimate U. There are countless interviews with film producers/script writers/game designers discussing how important the Ultimate U has been to making new audiences understand how special these characters are, and delivering it in a more contemporary and 'edgy,' style.

The number of Marvel films that have been green lit due to the DIRECT SUCCESS of the comics produced under JQ's tenure is quite frankly, astounding. E.g. The studio producers that have been assosiated with the Captain America film were holding back on greenlighting for many years, after he's in international newspapers around the world, the film is greenlit. 'Nuff said!.

Getting back to Spidey, yes, we have had God awful. But we also had 'Coming Home,' the reveal to Aunt May, brilliant character moments, and everything since the unmasking has IMO been just brilliant. People all around the world have been picking up more Spidey now since a VERY long time. Fandom is genuinley on their toes not knowing what will happen.

Jenkins run has also had some amazingly touching highs, and mediocre lows.

Don't get me wrong, I refused to buy Spider-Man comics after Sins Past, (which is more than I can say for many hypocritical Hypsters in all forums,) on the grounds of my love of Gwen and the total ****e storytelling that was Sins Past.

But I came back for Civil War, and I'm bloody glad I did.

So that's why I think that your logic is at fault. Spidey stories have been 50/50 with EXTREME highs and VERY low lows. But pretty much 90% of all other characters are prospering! Iron Man is fast approaching the status of Spidey/Wolvie, people all around the world are loving Cap now! It should get to the point where some of these characters get big, or EVEN BIGGER than Spider-Man.

Can you imagine DC with ONLY Supes as the character everyone knows? Why can't Marvel have multiple big characters?

Long winded I know, but I think I made my point.

I think he's doing the best job that he can... and at least he's willing to take chances, which is what Marvel has always been about. Have these chances worked out? Of course not, but the characterization throughout the last 5 or 6 years have been pretty spot-on (more specifically the last 2 years), so I can hardly say that the guy has "destroyed" Spider-Man.

What he has done is manage to piss off a LOT of people by changing things around to the point of offending said people because it's not the same Spider-Man they read as a kid.

Though the reality is that all previous EIC's at Marvel since the late 70's have done the exact same thing to Spider-Man over the years... change things around to try and stir the pot up a little, and the end result has been NOT the same Spider-Man I read as a kid... at times, I got things that were better, but I also got things that were crap.

And it's the same with JQ... to quote your post "Sins Past/Remembered, The Other, Civil War (Unmasking/Iron Spidey)", Sins Remembered & the Other were crappy stories, Sins Past HAD potential, but fell apart with the last chapter, and the CW/Unmasking situation was well handled characterwise. If you think that's an incorrect statement, you're more than inclined to believe that, but then I would think you don't really read the Spider-Man books.

So having said that, I don't think the guy should be fired. He came on board when Marvel was really struggling in ALL of their characters' books... and many of them nowadays are GOOD and top sellers (which is the bottom line at ANY company).

So while I haven't agreed with some of his editorial decisions, I can applaud him for putting Marvel Comics (and their characters, including Spider-Man) back to it's rightful spot... on top.

Just my two cents... :yay:

And if i may add; One of the coolest things as a long time fan that i've expierienced in the past two years is variety available right now at Marvel...

The previous decade, all they offered was earth-bound superhero comics, usually centererd heavily around their X-Men franchise...the past two years though, i've now been able to enjoy books from several different corners of the Marvel Universe; Besides the regular superhero stuff, there's also Cosmic space opera, westerns, horror, romance, fantasy, and crime drama....It's like being a fan in 1972 all over again.

Based on what we've seen thus far, I'd say fire him. He's managed to make the Spidey titles a haven for "shocking" stories. Nothing more. I've enjoyed some parts of it, but there has been FAR more bad than good. Honestly, the thing that pisses me off most of all, is the fact that, ONE MORE DAY, the most hyped Spider-event since the last one, has been under production for a little over a year, and it's ALREADY been delayed. We know that's Joey Q's fault. He gave himself a year's leadtime, and he STILL couldn't pencil a 4 issue storyarc. That's not taking into account Daredevil:Father, which had over a year long delay from issue 1 to issue 2.

His problem with lateness is more maddening than the storylines he greenlights. Look at Civil War. The ENTIRE 616 universe was pretty much put on hold for that storyline. They weren't going to release it until later on that year, providing the aritst with ample time to finish it, and, instead, they rush it to compete with DC's craptastic "Infinite Crisis", and it ends up getting delayed for three months and some change. I think, as a leader, he needs to better assess the situation with his employees.

As for his disregard for the fans, I have to agree with both sides on that argument. Had there been an internet in 1973, it would have went ballistic when Gwen was killed. Everyone would have screamed for the Editor's head on a plate. Had that happened, we would have been deprived one of the greatest Spidey stories ever told. So, it goes to prove that you can't always just do what the fans want, or the stories grow stagnant.

On the other hand, he goes OUT OF HIS WAY to rile up the fans. He CREATES the controversy. He also seems intent on giving fans EVERYTHING HE WANTS, as opposed to what works for the natural progression of the characters. He also doesn't care about alienating older fans for the purpose of getting new ones. This has been proven time and again. He created the controversy about the marriage, and now, he's attempting to "resolve" the same controversy that he started. Sorry...it's only controversial when the masses are a little more evenly divided. As every poll I've seen suggests, the MASS majority of readers prefer a MARRIED Spider-man.

If it were up to me, yes, I'd toss him on his tuccas. He's given us some things I like, but he's also caused me to do something I'd never done: Drop Amazing Spider-Man....Marvel's flagship title. I had NEVER done that...not even during the Mackie/Byrne days. For that, his disregard for a monthly schedule, and his penchant for stirring up the fans, I say we be rid of him.

and the CW/Unmasking situation was well handled characterwise. If you think that's an incorrect statement, you're more than inclined to believe that, but then I would think you don't really read the Spider-Man books.

Is this a joke? You really think after all of the situations he's been in he would even think of unmasking? You have to be joking.

Wow, JQ wrote all those? All this time I was looking at the writing credits and blaming those people. Should I be blaming JQ for the art as well?

Well, he IS Marvel's EIC....doesnt that mean he greenlights storylines and has final say on things?

Not sure if he's head of the art department or not...

Aloha,
Why is it that NO ONE has brought up the name of Axel Alonzo? He's the editor or was the editor for the Spidey titles. Continuity errors were HIS job not Joe Q.Why is it that no one can even NAME the head of Marvel comics and hint-JOE Q ain't the head!I will repeat what I've been saying for several years now. Most professionals get a job performance review YEARLY. Joe Q! is a professional who gets reviewed by HIS BOSSES every year( 24K No Prize- Name Joe Q's boss!). If the bottom line of Marvel, which is sales, was poor, Joe Q and everyone associated with the poor title would be out on their ears. Marvel is not a mom and pop operation, it is a major corporation that's listed on the Stock Exchange. As fans we have the right to our likes and dislikes- I will be the first to say that not everything that has come out of Spidey in the past few years I liked, but then I can say that for any given decade of Spidey. If Marvel is to remain true to the title " House of Ideas", then new ideas have to be tried. Some will work some will fall like a rock.Let's remember a lesson that our President didn't remember-Before you get rid of someone, make sure you have someone competent to replace them with.

There has been bad storylines in the past such as the Other, Sins Past, etc. I don't know how OMD is going to turn out, but if the marriage is messed up, then that would be one of the worst mistakes ever. I wish he knew how much the marriage means to us fans.

Kidding or not...?

A bit of both really....

I liked his efforts within the first two years as editor in chief but over the last three, I've utterly been disappointed in what it is that he's done to Marvel. Sorry for those Joe lovers but fire him.

Woah dude, take a chill pill. This thread is just to post on whether you think Joey Q should stay as EIC because of what he's doing with Spidey. I'm sure he's done a lot more with the MU, but I'm just talking Spidey. Yes, I know Spidey isn't the all and end of the MU. Infact I remember 80's,90's to current that Spidey has always been a outcast to the MU. He was A RESERVED Avenger for so many years until the Avengers blew up themselves and started a new.

There are A LOT of people out there that hate Joey Q because of what he's doing with Spidey and a professional in that type of management job title should know every nut and bolt of the business, including character history. I HAVE SEEN JOEY Q diss, disrespect, and shoo fans away, especially Spidey fans, all because he thinks he knows what he's doing and when he messes up he makes excuses such as. "It's in the past, forget it." "The writers for the arc aren't here in the pannel." "Yes, it was a mistake, let's move on.", translation..."I really don't care what you geeks/fanboys think, I'm cool, you are not. I run the show so I'll do things the way I want, I was scoring chicks in high school while you read comics." Seriously, I've seen what he's done to fans as an onlooker. He shows now respect for any fan, only the ones that kiss his behind. I HAVE SEEN IT! That's why I don't like Joey Q, and personally I don't want someone like that managing Spidey stories. That's just me.

If you think Joey Q is doing fine, hey that's great. Post your vote, that's your two cents...your cool, I am so not dissing you, just wanted to find out what other peopl are saying and from the looks of things, they are saying what they wanna say. No logic in this whatsoever, just want to hear other people thoughts of this guy and his personal direction on Spidey and with that personal direction should be in the position he's in.
