my childhood! :cmad:

No? Okay I'll let myself out.

Finn Palpatine. Count on it. :o

In all seriousness, hate the name. Probably the worst of the lot IMO. Hopefully it grows on me.

What's the bets this is Lando's son?

Despite Billy Dee sort of campaigning for an offspring in the movie, and despite the Mizzlewump rumors and some online gossip from people on the Pinewood lot, I've been pretty stubborn in not considering this seriously. I've had problems trying to figure what the story purpose would be and how it relates to everyone else in the film. Wouldn't a Solo child know a Calrissian child? Maybe. Maybe not. Or why he's a Stormtrooper. Honestly, it kind of gives me a headache.

So I'll play pretend advocate for a moment.

In terms of looks, he does look like young Billy Dee. Ray Fisher (up for the Finn role) kind of did too. I didn't pass this on before but a writer (name escapes me) for a Star Wars magazine tweeted a comparison photo (that I saved) between young Billy Dee and John Boyega back in May (I think it was then.)

We could just be chalking it up to sheer coincidence given enough time. I'm not leaning in the Lando connection direction right now but I guess it shouldn't be complete surprise if I turn out wrong on this one point.

it seems perfectly reasonable to me if finn is a calrissian, or a kenobi. his last name is hidden for a reason. Finn Calrissian, Finn Kenobi. sounds good to me.

The real question is if he is a legacy character, why is he a Stormtrooper?

There is no evidence that suggest Obi wan had Children. We would have seen them in the Original trilogy. Plus being so powerful in the force you would think he would sense them "wait I think I have a child somewhere!" I mean they too would be powerful in the force and could have helped take down the Empire.

I think it is more plausible he is related to Lando. I mean he looks just like a young Billy Dee Williams.

Kenobi may or may not have children. But he did have a family and it may be a descendant of his family bloodline not his in particular. But there's something to it if they felt they had to keep the last name a secret.

Perhaps the casting call gives a clue, if this is Lando's son and is the "thomas" character from the casting description now with a name change. The lack of a fathers influence would suggestcee would be familiar with who the father was.
For the male role, named "Thomas", producers seek a young man able to play 19-23 years old. They must be "handsome, smart and athletic" as well as at least 18 years old.

"Thomas has grown up without a father's influence, without the model of being a man," reads the casting call. "He doesn't have the strongest sense of himself. Despite this he is smart, capable and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdities in life and understands you can't take life too seriously."

kenobi was conceived by two force ghosts. there's no way in hell he could be related to anyone in the universe:o

Finn either has to be Lando's son or Lando's grandson I mean it would make sense if he were of some relation to Lando because then it just strengthens his tie as a hero

He doesn't "have to be." I think he could very much be a strong hero just because of who he is; not everybody has to be related to somebody for the OT. I'm all for family relations, but I don't think all of the new characters should be.

Just from that video he just is such a likeable guy. Charismatic too. I really can't wait to see his performance, if not his character. I really need to see Attack of the Block.

I'm not so sure about Lando's son. Just going by the concept art it seems Finn was the young white guy with Rey and this was before they cast Boyega.

Now Oyelowo as Lando's son I could definitely see. Hell, Oyelowo in a SW films would be wonderful. He fits like a glove.

"Oh these kids - they're not kids - but they're so talented I was just overwhelmed. They're all so diverse. There's people I recognize like Andy Serkis and new people that I'd never seen before like Daisy Ridley - but they're so good that I'm thinking about asking them for advice - I don't want to give any myself."

"And the new actors are great – we’re like the old guard who come back and have a reunion, and they’re the freshmen. We’d go 'just you wait; wait til you get the fanbase that’s going to follow you around for the next forty years…'"
Carrie Fisher

"Finn's training will not be rushed. I feel he has a role to play in what is to come. He must be allowed to reach his full potential." ―Luke Skywalker

While on Yavin 4, Finn began his training under the watchful eye of Master Skywalker. After much practice Finn was able to lift a rock using the Force. Master Skywalker congratulated the young Jedi, then placed a large boulder on the rock and told Finn to pick the rock up again. Four Jedi Padawans—Lowbacca, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo—took pity on him and offered to let him train with them. Despite some initial awkwardness around Jaina, Finn quickly showed his mettle in a practice duel with her. Jaina warned Finn of the dangers of hatred and of falling to the dark side of the Force after he expressed his worry and anger at fate of his planet and family.

"You want to put the blaster down."
"You want to practice your Jedi mind trick." ―Finn and Han Solo

A part of me still wants him to be Lando's Son... then I have another part of me that wants him to be Mace Windu's Grand son... then that would prove that Mace survived his fall... Then another part wants him to be Finn Galfridian.

If I had a choice... I don't know which to pick... I can't win!

Or... he's just an original creation which is the most likely at this point.
