You know what's funny, this teaser is getting all kinds of positive buzz. And yet technically, Depp is STILL playing a "weirdo covered in make-up." IDK, the irony is just amusing to me.

Because his character is not some cartoon character. This is a real scary menacing guy.

The dinner scene that was shown seems better than anything I saw from most of Depp's recent, non POTC movies (while I think the POTC movie quality has plummeted, Depp is still good in them)

To me Depp hasn't made a live action movie Ive enjoyed since 06 with Pirates 2. And even that got a very mixed response. That's almost 10 years of actively spewing out crap. I don't know who disappoints me more Adam Sandler or Depp.

I've never been a Depp fan. Didn't care for any of the PotC films. However he has had a role or two in the past that I enjoyed(Donnie Brasco for example, I loved). I think the last time I liked a film of his was Blow in 2001. Public Enemies was a monumental disappointment, even though it's not horrible really, it's just meh. But considering the pedigree in front of and behind the camera and the subject matter they were tackling that movie should have been a damn masterpiece. But as soon as I saw them filming a Depression era period piece with high definition cameras like they did with Collateral I knew the movie was in trouble at a fundamental level. And I'm the type of guy who usually doesn't even notice cinematography.

I think Sandler has talent
Drama wise he was good in Reign Over Me and the dramatic parts of Click. And I never saw it but I heard he was good in Punch Drunk Love

ANd then I liked Happy Gilmore a lot. Longest Yard, Click, 50 First Dates, Big Daddy, and Anger Management were good to me

Im not saying he's as talented as Depp or that he'll win OScars, but I think that Sandler is for sure capable of better than what he's doing.
