I heard this morning on a news program that Paul Bettany had been cast as The Joker.

Nah, Bettany has just been added to the "short list" of candidates.

I'm at a loss as to why Paul Bettany would be considered. Heck there are at least a dozen names listed here that I'd choose before him.

any of you clowns that think Glover can play a better joker then Penn need to seriously get a brain. Penn will own the role if he touches it. He's one of those versatile Brandoesque actors that can blend into any role. And he is perfect for the Joker absolutely perfect i don't know why i never thought of it before. You need someone like Penn for Joker someone that CAN overshadow Nicholson as Joker.

if he gets cast, i'll give Penn a shot. but he has the wrong eyes from what i see. he definately wouldn't be on my short list. and screw Glover. i can't believe i have to say this again, we're looking for someone to play Joker; not a real-life Joker. when casting Penguin, you're not looking for someone with a grotesquely long nose who wears a monocle. if you want a memorable performance, you've got to look for someone who can become the character instead of playing themself. i just love it when people say stuff like "Mel Gibson played a half disfigured guy in blah blah blah...he'd make the *perfect* Two-Face." think about it. what would be the draw for Gibson to repeat characters? the critics aren't going to praise him for once again playing a disfigured guy. they'll probably think that he did a better job in the first movie. and if Crispin Glover were to play yet another weird villain, that would be typecasting. it'd be Batman vs Crispin Glover in grease paint.

looks like a reject from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. that's gotta be the worse reasoning ever. "he should be the joker because he is the joker." Carrot Top's a joker, he should be the joker. Dave Chapelle's a joker, he should be the joker. Steve Martin's a joker, he should be the joker. Bozo the Clown's a joker, he should be the joker.

no joker will be cast for some time. they're just rounding up numerous choices making them sign contracts so that if any of them are chosen by nolan, they will already be under contract for the role.....they do this all the time in hollywood, they did this with the superman casting. nolan still plans to do another movie before the batman sequel, so its going to be a while.....

Cassel would be fine, in my book, but I think he'd have to significantly change his accent...

just read killing joke again, Glover's the man, he's played both those role's, pre red hood and post, in BttF and Willurd. Sean Penn? Penguin maybe...uppity midget tough guy is more his speed.

Sean Penn is an interesting choice. I'd much rather have a phenomenal actor like Sean Penn, who doesn't look exactly like The Joker but could give an amazing performance, than someone like Crispin Glover, a mediocre actor who's only advantage is looking the part.

Benicio Del Toro and Johnny Depp are still my top choices, but I certainly wouldn't complain if Sean Penn was cast. Actually, whoever is cast, I'll try and have an open mind about it. Though i'd probably be a bit disappointed if it was Crispin Glover.

I was a professional comic artist before disability ended my career and my manips come under fire from people all the time, 'specially on SHH

the key is to practice at it - the more you practice the better you get

Dont let these guys put you off

My manips were not great for this board to begin with

but i steadily improved

Till I'm doing stuff like this

And the teeth and eyes were handrawn not manipped like most people think


I got to this stage in a month as i joined in May - I can only get better
Some board members have commisioned me to design them characters comicstrips and some superhero erotica stuff lol

If i can do this with poor sight (i've only got one eye and it aint 100%) you can too

I think Lillard would actually be really good. Me and one other poster (I think it was Motown Marvel back when he was Marvel07) mentioned something about that back in '03. Cassel could work too if he worked on his voice.
