The Dark Knight Joker's costume?

Joker should not have "a costume".

He should wear clothes. Various outfits. That the joker would wear. Mostly purple and somewhat flambouyant like he should be.

Like a lot of the stuff in this thread.

Because people - even total whackos - do not wear the same thing everyday unless it's a uniform. Batman's suit is a uniform and a piece of equipment. Joker's clothes aren't.

What joker wears should not feel like a "costume" designed by a costume designer for a movie. They should feel like clothes chosen by the Joker because he likes them.

I completely agree.

Joker has never had a uniform. The thing that scares me is how far the realistic thing will go. Dr. Crane with just a mask was not the best version of Scarecrow I can think of, but I undesrtand it was like just an origin story for him. I just don't want a pale dude in a suit and everybody calling him the Joker.

Crane's mask-only costume made sense for the story. Can you imagine the scene with Falcone? "Would you like to see my mask? And my hat? Oh and these overalls? Now to stuff some straw in there, wanna see that? Now lemme grab my scythe. K, there we go. I use this stuff in my experiments..."

Joker, on the other hand, has every reason to wear what he does in the comics. They're just clothes, and everyone wears clothes. They're not something he puts on for show to go out, it's not to hide his identity or anything like that. It's just his clothes. Nothing unrealistic about a guy who likes to dress a bit outlandishly. Purple suit, maybe a colorful shirt and vest underneath, some pinstripe pants, and some gloves. Just as long as he doens't wear the same exact thing every day.

Well, considering the kind of gas he was using and its power, he didn't even need that mask in that scene to begin with.

Agreed.

yeah and sadly nolan won't make the joker wear the purple classic suit he wears.I mean it stands out and looks silly and I understand but they can atleast make the joker wear something we all know he'd wear.the scarecrow was just the right way he should of been in BB,simple yet not comical but it'll be harder for the joker because he is comical

My idea is that the Joker does not change his pants from various months. He's totally insane and concentrated on madness and chaotic ideas.
So, at least his pants are always the same old pants.
;)

No, the Joker needs to be stylish - not some dosser who leaves skids in his pants. You also have to remember that the Joker is quite a genius so it wouldn't look good if he's running around in the same pants for months on end.

yeah but that's what from what I've been hearing is what nolan wants the joker to look like lol a crazy bum lol he's better then that

It never ceases to amaze me what people can read into a very vague report...and also how many posters have the gift of prescience. Well, I assume that's what is going on with those who *know* what Nolan is going to do. Don't think any of you could pass on what next week's Lotto numbers are, could you? :whatever:

Oh hilarious. Let's close the forum until the movie is released?

But I wouldn't have anyone to laugh at...

Do you think Nolan will give him the hat though?

I think it was mentioned somewhere that he would indeed don the hat . . . I think it was a Ledger interview talking about that evil grin under the trademark hat . . .

It was from one of BOF's insider reports so you know...grain of salt and all that. I wish it was more official, I'd like to see the hat.

^oh was that it? grain of salt indeed . . .

*nods* I went back and re-read that stuff recently. Still not sure where I'd put it. There's nothing that directly disproves it - not even the 'no Penguin' line from Nolan because an insider tip mentioned that subplot being iffy. OTOH it doesn't feel right either.

Darker versions of all the flamboyant colors will be used I think. I doubt it will be so toned down that it dosnt look like Joker at all except for the face. I assume the hair won't be bright green but dark green. This realism thing shouldn't be taken too far about a millionaire sociopath and a straight psycho.

i don't like the idea of the Joker having a distinctive "outfit" or whatever else you want to call it. i would take Gordon's comment about "armed robbery, double homicide" at the end of Begins, and have Joker on the run by the time we catch up with Batman in TDK:

Gotham is dark, dingy, muddy, it rains a lot there, so i think that his clothes (NOT outfit!!) should be tattered and torn and stained:

  • dark-colored pants (cargo pants or something similar)
  • dark-colored torn jacket/coat (probably stolen from one of his crimes) and
  • a light purple collared shirt, obviously grimy but you can tell that it's purple.
i also like the idea that he might carry a playing card deck in a jacket pocket (obviously all jokers.. maybe he collected the cards from some of his victims, if they had decks of cards)

anyway thats my idea of the Joker's appearance, clothing-wise at least. as for facial appearance and hair style, my preference is the Conrad Veidt manip, but thats for another thread :joker:

Screw you and your hobo Joker. A dark violet or black tuxedo is what The Joker needs.

Follow this up with various suits of a similar style and we'll have fashion worthy of The Joker's dramatic personality.

Tuxedos are alright. But he also needs velvet coats and frilly cuffs. Just because.

i'm not trying to make a "hobo Joker", i'm just taking his situation into account. besides, i agree that he should have a distinctive "look", just not something that would make Joker look out of place in the world that Nolan is creating.

I do like the idea of a kind of suit/tuxedo-type outfit, but if you take the Joker's situation into account it wouldn't be a freshly-pressed suit. it wouldn't be downright crappy either, but it should look like the Joker has been doing what he can to avoid Batman and the police.

I have no idea why bright or at least loud clothing couldnt work under dark lighting, It would stand out, but it would definatly enhance the character.
Example- Tyler Durden
Not that I want him to dress like Tyler, but the bright clothes didnt stand out and never took away from a scene, it only help to make Tyler. I believe the same principle can be applied to this movie with the Joker.
