Daredevil Jon Bernthal IS Frank Castle / The Punisher! - Part 1

Yeah, that was a nice little touch. And the truck crash was just very cool and very Frank. He had some of the best lines. One of his last being, "I'm already dead" where he sealed his fate. Frank had a great arc in this season. Him realizing that his war will never end and how he doesn't want others to be like him, even when Daredevil is willing to make a concession to do it Frank's way.

I think its in Widowmaker rc in the MAX series that he also tries to stop someone else from trying to be him, that what he does is his alone to bear.

My two complaints would be:
the "reveal" about Frank's CO was cliché "drama' TV writing at it's most blatant. And it makes Frank's backstory more convoluted than it needs to be imo. And his appearance in the finale felt wonky/shoehorned in. Don't tease us with the three of them teaming up against the Hand, if you're not actually going to do that, it's just cheap.

Other than that, excellent.

Exactly my feeling. Ironically, the one thing I was excited to see was the skull, but I feel a perfect ending to Frank's story in this season would have been him [BLACKOUT]seeing the vest in the gun shed, and then picking up the spray can. Then from the get go, in S3/Defenders/Punisher, wherever he appears next, he's full-on The Punisher.[/BLACKOUT]

I honestly wonder, do you guys think that Frank could have taken on and defeat Wilson Fisk back when Fisk was still in power in Season 1?
One of the reasons I like them as adversaries is because they are both strategically minded characters. I love seeing the two of them try and outmaneuver each other.

I think frank would of taken Wilson down more easily than daredevil as he doesn't have to worry about bringing him to justice through legal means.

I would say kingpin I arguably more dangerous now than he was before. He isn't bound by an alliance and isn't thinking he is the hero of the story anymore.

I think they're going to start putting more series into production at a time. Given DD is their most watched show it'd definitely be worth it.

Dude killed it in this role! But I agree with one of the complaints about him being shoehorned into the final episode. But that costume was perfect.

I think they'll keep the 2 series per year format in 2017 with Iron Fist and Defenders. Maybe they could start putting more output in 2018.

Bernthal was magnificent. Punisher, perfectly characterized and perfectly acted. Easily the best part of season 2 IMO.

I'm thinking a Punisher series is a given as of now.

I was glued anytime Punisher or Kingpin were on screen. Both were easily the highlights of Season 2.

In the final episode, we see
Punisher carrying a mini-gun while walking away from his house blowing up. And then in the finale he uses a rifle instead. Seemed like the mini-gun was there for no reason.
Anyone else think he was to have a ninja mow down scene for the finale instead, and the showrunners changed their minds?

I mean I feel like it's inevitable. Punisher Series is probably coming to Netflix soon. At this point it feels like Netflix is the only place that can do characters like Punisher and DD any justice.

And Blade. :cwink:

Anyone else think they sort of over did the bruising make-up on Bernthal? I know he had been through the ringer, but some of it looked over the top - especially all the yellow....not sure if that was supposed to be betadine (anticeptic added to the wounds) but i found it a bit distracting.

Funny, I think for once we got a more "realistic" take on bruises.

The yellow is from some of his treatment combined with some of the ringing you get around some bruises. It was all done very well I think

The one thing I love about this show is how things like that remain throughout. Like how in Season One his stitches would repeatedly open up when he went out, or how in this season the gunshot impaired his senses for a while, or the bruising on Frank's face.

Yeah. It seemed like the only time in the season where Frank's face wasn't messed up was in the first three episodes. I was surprised the waitress didn't say anything about it when he and Karen went to the diner.

The prison fight was amazing. The only flaw with it, rather than have the Kingpin let Frank out of prison, Frank should've emerged from the tear gas dressed in the riot gear and walked out.

That would have been a much cleaner and plausible escape, Fisk barely controlled 20% of the prison before, it's too farfetched to believe that suddenly after Duston's(?) death he now has enough clout to let the country's crime bogeymon serial killer out of the prison, do none of prison employees have answerability?

People didn't like that Frank was talkative and too willing to spill his guts and tell his story. I loved it

So, I never even heard of Bernthal till this. I just watched his red carpet interview and I had no idea his Frank Castle "voice" was acting. His voice is much high pitched and less "tough sounding". I thought he was just one of those macho type actors who plays tough guys, sort of like Jason Statham

I wish. Everyone said that about D'Onofrio for season one and he was ignored by the Emmys.

Guess I wasn't one of those people. I liked D'Onofrio in S1 but didn't even think that was worthy of an Emmy nod. Bernthal on the other hand, his performance deserves a nomination. IMO, when he and D'Onofrio were on screen together in S2, he made D'Onofrio look like he was overacting, THAT'S how good Bernthal was. And that graveyard scene :wow: He was great in the courtroom scene too.

I've seen Bernthal in other roles like TWD, Sicario, and Fury, and while he's been solid in all those roles, he really knocked it out of the park in DD. I'd say the best performance of his career.

Jon nailed the role..no doubt.

However I have reservation about the character punisher.
To me, he is a one note character. How much can his arc change? or how interesting can his arc be?

He hunt criminals then he kills them. That it! Does he ever redempt himself? by maybe not killing?

The only thing that can be made interesting is the process where he goes around hunting for his prey. Character arc wise, its one note.

I'm not good with my English, not sure if I get my point across. what it meant ultimately is frank works better as a side character as his character doesn't do much revolving.

I know ppl wants a solo punisher show. That would only work if they have very very interesting stories. it can't be a film about character study. characters like matt murdock and wilson fisk are so much more interesting and colorful, character wise. hell even bullseye is a much more layered character.
